FinalistBio
Aloha, 'O Iolani K Kamakau ko'u inoa. I come from a small town on the Big Island of Hawaii (K-town represent). I am a first-generation Native Hawaiian sophomore at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ majoring in Global Security Intelligence Studies and studying Chinese Mandarin with a minor in Cybersecurity. Currently, I'm a member of Eagle Eye Intel, Women in Aviation, Project Pengyou, Society of Women Engineers and Board of Campus Activities.
I was a part of my high school's first STEM academy program and Tiki Techs Robotics, raising $5,000+ for our Summer Camp and Ho'ike. This funding also went towards our projects for regional/national competitions (ROV, TARC, Science Olympiad, VEX, IPPF). Through this program, I was able to give back to my local community and help mentor girls (GEMS) to pursue their dreams as women in STEM.
Coming from a melting pot, I'm passionate about learning about different cultures and languages. By being open-minded, I can develop meaningful connections with people although we come from two different worlds. In the end, we all bleed the same color. I hope to study abroad one day in Asia to learn about my own culture (and eat yummy food).
I'm interested in cyber risk management and international cyber conflicts. Next summer I have an internship as a Cybersecurity Consultant for a Big 4 firm. Scholarships would help me accomplish my career goals and further my education, as well as assist me in paying off my expensive private school tuition.
Mahalo nui loa.
