I am currently a student at The Ohio State University. My goal is to become a forensic anthropologist and give back to those who helped me achieve my goal. I am so thankful I can attend college and hope to receive my degree and go beyond an undergraduate education.
I work at The Ohio State University as an office assistant. I am part of Buckeyes First, a first-generation student learning community, and Scarlet and Gray Advantage this program is designed to help students understand financial wellness and best plan for their degrees. I try to take advantage of all of the organizations that Ohio State has to offer. I am currently a member of three groups on campus. Two of these groups are academic and help to further my goals. I have been a member of the Sociology and Criminology club for two years, this club has provided amazing opportunities such as hearing from professionals and viewing an autopsy. My other academic group is the Anthropology Club. This club has allowed me to learn about other fields in Anthropology and learn about the human experience. I am also a member of the Female Gaze Screening Club, a group where we come together and discuss films from a feminist point of view. This group allows me to turn a hobby I love, watching movies, into an opportunity to critically think about the media I consume.
As a first-generation student, I am determined to make my way through college and do the best I can. Thankfully I have a community to support me. I am glad I can call myself a first-generation student and thankful to my parents for encouraging me to pursue my dreams.

Fallen "Freaks" Scholarship
I watched too much television. That is how my interest in Criminology and Forensics began. I knew everything on television was fake but these shows led me to do more research and I am so glad I did. When starting at my university I was a Criminology major with a Forensic Science minor and I loved every second of it but was still unsure where I wanted to take my career. While completing a course for my minor, my whole life was changed, I finally found my purpose in this field.
Forensic Anthropology was a whole new world that I was excited about. I was excited to walk into class and learn and even while taking exams I was smiling, an odd emotion to have while taking exams. Not only was this class and the professor amazing but she had informed us that my university was soon starting a forensic anthropology major. This was the luckiest I had ever felt. Forensics is such an exciting field. Whenever I learn new information or read about anything forensics, I feel buzzing with excitement. It sounds weird but whenever I learn about forensic anthropology or if I am even talking about it, I can feel my brain working. It's not struggling to work but it feels like it is finally doing what it was meant to do. I see connections and solve problems easily, to me, forensics is like a 100-piece puzzle while much of my life other subjects and fields were like trying to solve a 3,000-piece monochrome puzzle. For the first time in my life, I am excited to move on and start my career. I know there are opportunities out there that I have not come across that will change my life.
My current forensic science class is set up so that in every class we hear from a different professional within forensic science. Anyone from Pathologist to Entomologist, although those are not the careers I intend to go into, I have found that hearing about these different careers is the highlight of my semester. There is something so special about hearing about these careers that often causes weird looks from others and being in a room full of people who are just as interested. I still have my Criminology major so that I can continue to learn important details in the criminal justice system but I know where I belong and where my people are in Forensics. I would not be anywhere else than where I am not and I am so excited to start my career.

Bold Giving Scholarship
Giving back is important to keep to world moving. People need help. No matter how stable someone may seem, they may need help. To give back in my community I am part of 2 volunteer organizations and do independent projects. I had the privilege to be apart of a food drive at my school. I was apart of the leadership team and helped to collect and count cans. It was amazing to see the whole school participate in such an important cause. In my community many houses have little library’s in front of them. Gathering books to spread in the community was not only fun but necessary. Children need to learn and reading is a wonderful way to expand one’s knowledge. I will continue to give back for the entirety of my life.
