I plan to leverage what I learn in my STEM degree, nursing, to make the world a better place by working hard and providing quality care to people. I want to be a nurse to help heal people, help them fight their battles of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and all of the other diseases out there. I would love to be part of the reason my patients keep fighting, I want to help them win their battles.
Throughout my STEM classes, I hope to learn creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. These skills will help me in my journey to make the world a better place because they are all very important to have in nursing or any other degree in STEM. Learning how to inspire my creativity is going to be important for nursing because in some situations being creative is needed to be able to find ways to help save lives, for example, if all of the appropriate machines, tools, and technology that you would use if you were in a hospital are not available, being creative would be an important skill to have when finding another way to save the person. Another key skill in nursing is problem-solving, it is crucial to be good at solving problems in a timely manner yet really think the solution through to make sure it is the best one because in many cases where problem-solving is needed it can be a life or death situation. One of the skills that are extremely important to any STEM job is collaboration. If a person can pursue life by working well with others and being able to communicate with them, that is going to make them just that much better for the job. Additionally to those three skills, I really do believe that I am a happy person, and in the long run, I think that will help me connect and be able to talk with my patients. I imagine it would help to make them feel like they are safe when talking to me because some patients do not like to talk to nurses. I feel as though being a caring and happy person would really help me to pursue all of the things that I have said above.
I believe that I possess all of these skills to a point, there is always room for improvement, and I hope to continue to do just that in all three categories. Becoming more creative, better at problem-solving, and improving my collaboration skills, I think will help me to carry out my dreams of becoming a nurse. Being able to care for patients at a higher level would be an honor. I want to make a difference, I want to help save lives. That is how I am going to help change the world for the better with a STEM degree.
