A career in STEM is a gateway to innovation. Innovation is the process of applying knowledge and ideas to generate a new product or service. This process opens the door to endless opportunities to make a change in the world using STEM. Through the skill of innovation, the world has devices such as space debris shields, VR medical training, and 3-d printed respirators. All of these life-changing devices were created using STEM properties. They are imperative in the fields of science in which they are used. As a student, I aspire to be able to make a change and create devices such as those that can truly have a major impact in their industry.
One way I would like to impact the ever-changing technologically advanced world is through Aerospace Engineering. This is the field of engineering in which I would like to pursue a career after college. I have been interested in pursuing a career in the aviation industry since I was thirteen. It was at this age when I visited the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta, Georgia with my summer camp. Initially, I was not excited to attend this field trip. I would have much rather gone to anything other than a museum. To my surprise, I enjoyed the trip. I learned about the flight industry and the engines and turbines that planes have. I was also here where I was able to see a Rolls-Royce engine and learn how it was produced. As I got older and entered high school, I began learning about the principles of engineering. I was accepted to my school under the engineering pathway. It was because of this that I was able to study and learn about the different types of engineering. Aerospace and mechanical engineering were fields that piqued my interest. This led me to choose Aerospace Engineering as my choice of major for college.
I plan to make a change by making air travel more efficient and effective. Through this career path, I will learn how to design aircraft and how their propulsion systems work. With this knowledge, I can design things that are innovative and new to the flight industry. Engines can be made that release fewer carbon emissions. The release of these gases is toxic to the environment. They cause many issues for the environment, including air pollution. Air pollution is a major issue that affects communities globally. It is a problem that should be reduced drastically. I want to be apart of this.
