Bio

My life is goal is to be a dentist. Being the first person to soon graduate high school and attend college in my family, I want to be an example for my sister and younger cousins. I want them to know that you can accomplish anything by working hard. I want to accomplish my dreams and by setting my mind to it; I know I'm capable of it. For the past two years, I have been working at a local dentist’s office. I have always wanted to be a dentist but really didn’t have the full picture of exactly what a dentist does every single day. My curiosity led me to apply for the job in order to obtain first-hand experience. In my time at work, I have assisted the dental hygienist, observed the dentist in performing numerous procedures, and assisted with various office duties. This experience has confirmed my desire to become a dentist in the future. Once accomplishing my dream career I would like to travel all around the world and volunteer to provide free dental care for children and adults who because of remote living or poverty, do not have access to quality dental care. I would also like to venture out to learn more languages. Knowing both Spanish and English, being bilingual is very helpful. But being a very eager learner, I feel one should never limit themselves, especially when it comes to language and culture. I believe receiving scholarships will allow me to accomplish my future impacts on the world.

My heart racing, my hands sweating, my mind filled with emotions of happiness and disgust. All resulting from the sentence “you're going to be a big sister”. I remained an only child for almost fifteen years. I will never forget the day my parents sat me down and told me I was going to be a big sister. I have to admit I was a little grossed out and quite honestly I found it embarrassing as well. Even though my mother was only thirty-three years old and still within her childbearing years, I was still embarrassed. That embarrassment turned to pure joy the day I held my baby sister Ella in my arms. My parents would constantly work to be able to provide for our family, so my job was to take care of Ella. I could have never imagined the impact she would have on my life. I would feed her, bathe her, play with her. I saw her as my child and I treated her like my child. Ella made me a better person. Ella helped me adopted the qualities of responsibility, patience, and unconditional love. Because of Ella, I have matured; I am a better sister, daughter, and person, and for that, I’m thankful for her every day.
