In August 2021, I began my law school journey. I am now in my 2L year of the part-time evening program, which allows me to continue working full-time during the day to support my family.
I am a foster parent, adoptive parent, and step-parent—my decision to go to law school centered around my desire to advocate for and help children that are stuck in a variety of systems that seemingly all have one core thing in common: they fail to ensure the best interest of these children is the priority. My own childhood struggles lighted this passion. It has been furthered as I have watched my stepchildren struggle with their situation and my journey within foster care as a foster parent and eventual adoptive parent.
I have been shaped by the experiences of my life—from trauma that I have had to work to overcome to moments filled with pure joy, contentment, and peace. Each piece of my journey has shaped who I am and created the image of who I hope to become. My journey as an advocate is only beginning, and I have been blessed with opportunities to further myself on that journey: such as being offered a position working in a family law firm surrounded by amazing advocates. Every day, I aim to cultivate the knowledge, experience, and network needed in law school that will allow me to invest in this passion for children and truly make a change for future generations.
