My name is Kate Thomure and I am a high school student aspiring to attend college to become a psychologist. I have intentions on going to Missouri Baptist University to earn my undergraduate degree and then transferring to a graduate university to obtain a doctorate degree in psychology. I am determined to be a psychologist because of my immense interest in the mind of humans. Put simply, I want to learn as much as I can about how humans operate. I believe every person is special, unique, and worthy of love, and I want a job where I can make a difference in the lives of humans by helping them reclaim joy. There is much darkness and hatred in this world, and if I can help someone feel seen, valued, and treasured, then I will absolutely do that! I want to bring people out of the despair this world can trap them in and show them how loved they are by God.
The educator who has supported me the most in reaching my educational goals would be Mrs. Sarah Rochelau. She is the kindest person I have ever met and has such an incredible passion for teaching students. She is kind, while also maintaining a positive classroom environment. I have had the pleasure of having her as a teacher for the past two years, and have experienced first-hand how caring and loving she is. She has given me so much support over these past years. Last year, I had her as a pre-calculus teacher. This was her first year teaching this course, and she did a phenomenal job. I have struggled with math in the past, and she is the first teacher that has been able to demonstrate how to do it in a way I perfectly understand.
She also has compassion towards each and every student. You can definitely tell even after being in her class for just one day that she cares about the lives of all of her students and not just their academic progress. She even helps us make plans for what we are going to do after school! She shows compassion to every person in her life, and I am so thankful to have her as a teacher. She always makes sure to include fun and engaging activities in every unit and lesson that we do. She makes learning fun, and makes school a better place to attend every day.
Overall, she has been a terrific example for me and I am very thankful for her in my life to guide me not only as a student, but also as a young adult.

The movie that has had the greatest impact in my life would be A Walk to Remember. This movie taught me to not care about what other people think. The character Jamie Sullivan in this movie was such a good example for all women. She kept so true to who she was throughout the entire movie. She was a kindhearted, loyal friend to everyone and never let other people's judgment change who she was as a person. She was compassionate and kind, but never let people walk all over her. She would not allow other people to take advantage of her kind heart. The main character of the book, Landon Carter, was the exact opposite. He could be incredibly cruel and manipulative. He started to hang out with Jamie more, and was amazed at how different she was from all the other girls in the school. At first he just tried to take advantage of her, but slowly he started to like her. In the end he even admits that Jamie was the best thing that has ever happened to him. He said that Jamie made him want to be different and better.
The biggest lesson Landon learned from Jamie was how important it is to hang out with those who bring out the best in you. The more time Landon spent with Jamie, the less he wanted to hang out with crowds who have a bad influence on him, the less he wanted to treat people with hatred, and the more he wanted to work to make the world a better place.
I would want to only watch this movie out of all other movies for the rest of my life because I relate to it on such a deep level. It teaches important lessons that I can carry with me for the rest of my life. And, not only does it have a deep meaning, it also is entertaining, hilarious, and clever. I can relate to almost all of the characters in the movie. My personality is similar to that of Jamie, but I do care a little too much about what other people think of me, similar to Landon. This movie has had a great impact on my life, and something different sticks out to me each time I watch it.

I volunteer at my church’s preschool program every Wednesday and Thursday and volunteer at a local funeral home. Because of the way the loss my father years ago has affected me, I have a desire to help those who are also going through heartbreak, especially those who are affected by suicide the way I was by my father.
The most important lesson I have learned in my lifetime would be that I can’t do life alone. Oftentimes, I deny and resist help from others because of the fear of being a “burden.” After my dad passed away, I tried to just stay joyful and positive in front of other people, but my joy wasn’t genuine. It took me so long to confess that I needed support from others. After confessing this, I felt such a sense of freedom. It is amazing how people really will bend over backwards for you if you confess that you are struggling and need help. I learn how to better serve others through people’s kindness. I am very thankful for the family and friends God has placed in my life to be a light to me and show me how I can be a light to others.
There was a time in my life when one of my friends was deeply struggling with recovering from her grandfather committing suicide. This is something I was directly impacted by when my father commit suicide when I was in third grade. We were reading a book titled The Death of a Salesman, and my friend was having a hard time with this because all she could remember was how her grandfather died in the same way that the main character of the book, Willy Loman, did. I assured her that her grandfather’s love for her had no boundaries–she was a wonderful person worthy of so much love.
My friend so much appreciated that I was able to empathize with her. I went through an incredibly similar situation and was able to be a light to her by assuring her that she is not alone. I am so thankful for this opportunity to lend a hand to someone in need. The situation I went through when my father passed was by no way easy, but I do know that we go through hard times for a reason: to help those in need.
This scholarship will help me further my education in the field of psychology so I can better relate to others, learn how they think, and show them compassion. It will help me work to encourage others to prioritize their mental health.

To me, success is achieving a goal you have set for yourself. Success cannot be defined by a "win" or a "lose," but is rather marked by progress. It is achieving a purpose, aim, or goal. Success is not black and white; it varies from person to person. Some people may say that they did not have success if they lost a game, but others might say that they had success because they put forth their best effort and did not give up. For me, success looks like achieving a purpose in life. For instance, regardless of if I have a "good" day or a "bad" day, I count it as a success if I make an impact on somebody's life. I absolutely love making people feel seen, known, and loved. I love reminding people of how valuable they are. If I reach out and make somebody's day, that is absolutely a success. If I set my eyes on a goal and achieve it, that is also a success.
This opportunity will help me achieve success because it would be funding my studies to become a psychologist. I desperately want to learn more about how people think and behave so I can better relate to them and show them love and kindness. I believe that it is my calling to show other people love and compassion, and having funding to support my studies in it will help me reach this goal.

I volunteer at my church’s preschool program every Wednesday and Thursday and volunteer at a local funeral home. I help teach a class of two-year-olds at IXL Academy. I love how this gives me an oppurtinity to be a good example to children this young. Much of our development of our personality, values, and morals is built in these first few years of our lives. It is my goal to be an excellent example to these children and fill them with the love of God. I also volunteer at a local funeral home in Sullivan, MO. Because of the way the loss my father years ago has affected me, I have a desire to help those who are also going through heartbreak, especially those who are affected by suicide the way I was by my father.
The most important lesson I have learned in my lifetime would be that I can’t do life alone. In my leadership, I want to encourage others to reach out to people for help and to not hesitate to do so. Oftentimes, I deny and resist help from others because of the fear of being a “burden.” After my dad passed away, I tried to stay joyful and positive in front of other people, but my joy wasn’t genuine. It took me so long to confess that I needed support from others. After confessing this, I felt such a sense of freedom. People really will bend over backwards for you if you confess that you're struggling and need help. I learn how to better serve others through people’s kindness. I am very thankful for the family and friends God has placed in my life to be a light to me and show me how I can be a light to others.

Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
My favorite aspect of the game Minecraft would be how it can help you unlock your adventurous side and creativity. There are limitless possibilities, and this game can help you so much by teaching you how you can create amazing things with simple materials. You can build houses, go mining for materials, and so much more. It can also teach you how to be careful in life. There are creepers and enderman all over the place in Minecraft, and in the same way, there are threats all over the place in life! This game can truly teach you a lot about life. You can learn how to be resourceful, and also learn some self-defense tactics!
Another reason why Minecraft is so important to me is the way that it helped me and my cousin bond. We started playing Minecraft together in 2020, during the COVID-19 global pandemic. We were struggling with this because all we could do was stay home--we couldn't go visit friends and family or anything. As a result, we started playing Minecraft, and slowly started inviting other friends to join. Before we knew it, we were able to connect with our friends again, and have a wonderful time! Minecraft really helped me throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and is continuing to give me a way to connect better to my friends and family.

Tom Holland is hands down my favorite Spider-Man actor. This is because he does such a great job at conveying Peter Parker. In reality, Peter Parker is a very nervous and intelligent kid who was really kind of nerdy. The other actors do not convey this as well as Tom Holland does. The movies with Tom Holland in it do such a great job at revealing Peter Parker's true identity: an intelligent and somewhat awkward high school student who is kind, funny, and interesting.
When Peter Parker became Spider-Man, he was able to access his adventurous and brave side. Tom Holland did a great job at displaying the difference between Peter and Spider-Man. We were able to see how fit and brave he was as Spider-Man, and got to see how intelligent and creative he was as Peter. We also got to see his strong friendship with Ned in Spider-Man Homecoming. We also got to see his strong relationship with Meg. He cared so much about Meg, and Tom Holland did a great job at showing Peter's compassion towards her. Peter's relationship with MJ was also very heartfelt and cleverly played in the Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland. Overall, I believe that he is the best actor for Spider-Man.

A crossover episode between my two favorite Disney Channel shows would include Hannah Montana and Phineas and Ferb. Hannah Montana is my favorite Disney Channel show because it is so nostalgic for me. I watched it as a kid, but ended up re-watching it in 8th grade after we got Disney +. It is such a fun show where the characters are silly and hilarious, and it always puts a smile on my face. Phineas and Ferb is likewise incredibly nostalgic for me, and me and my sister would always watch this every morning before school. Both of these shows mean so much to me.
The exciting storyline that would bring these two worlds together would be Candace from Phineas and Ferb starting to listen to Hannah Montana songs. She would start to get obsessed with the songs--even more than Ducky Momo--and would get online and start researching where she could get tickets to see a Hannah Montana tour at. She would tell Phineas and Ferb about this idea, and they would get creative by building a ticket generator in their backyard. Candace would get super excited and would use it to generate a ticket to see Hannah Montana. They would go on a road trip and end up in California, where Miley lives. Candace would sneak backstage and see that Hannah lived a double life--she was really Miley Stewart but on stage was Hannah Montana! Candace would freak out, and eventually become really good friends with Miley and would promise to tell no one her secret. The title of this episode would be Summer Vacation Meets Malibu, California.
Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
My favorite Nintendo game would defintely be Wii Sports. I played this incredibly frequently with my sister. Our favorite game was always Wii Bowling. My sister was a master at this game, and even bowled a perfect game one time! We also would frequently play Wii Golf. It was a similar situation: my sister was brilliant at this game, and I could barely even make contact with the ball.
My favorite game to play in co-op mode would be Mario Kart. During the Summer, me and my sister would play this daily. We played through each and every course, and had such a wonderful time bonding through this game. We would always do the Balloon Battle game and would always see whose team would win.
A memorable moment from this multiplayer game would hands down be whenever my sister and I were racing on Mario Kart and my sister was trying to show me how to do a flip over a ramp. I tried so hard to figure this out, but could not! My sister told me to turn my controller when going over a ramp, but I got a little too animated in this, and flung my remote all the way across the room! It hit the TV, and left a humongous gash in it. This may not have been funny at the moment, but looking back on it, it makes me laugh so hard! This definitely solidified this game being my top choice.

There have been many obstacles in my life I have faced that have helped me become the person I am today. The experience of my first job is a perfect example. I worked at Meramec Caverns as a restaurant worker in 2021 as my first job. I learned that, unfortunately, the world can be a very cruel place. I learned that negativity cannot drive out negativity–only positivity can do that. Since working at this job, I have learned how crucial it is to spread compassion in a world that can be so mean. Kindness is something that costs nothing, but can be the best investment you ever make.
I have also faced many challenges mentally in school. In life, there will be kind people everywhere, and not so kind people everywhere. One of the most valuable lessons we can learn from this is how to treat each and every person with the respect we expect from them. Many people who treat you unkindly may have experiences with others doing this to themselves, and we can have so much influence over these people and help them feel seen, loved, and treasured.

Online platforms and resources I use to further my education would include Blooket, Quizlet, Kahoot, Quizziz, Canva, and Google. These have helped me apply my knowledge considerably. The first one I would like to discuss would be Quizlet. For every notes set or study guide that I get in my classes, I always make a Quizlet over it. It is so easy because I have the app downloaded on my phone, my iPad, and on my Chromebook. It helps give me a seamless study experience and really learn the content well. Flashcards have always been the best way that I learn, and having an online version of these is so beneficial.
Next, I would like to discuss Blooket. This is so helpful because it makes my study time be fun. I am able to put countless numbers of questions in a set and it helps me study via a game. This is incredibly helpful when I am struggling to be motivated to study. It helps make my experience fun with learning along the way. Quizziz has the same effect. It is so encouraging to be able to study while also having fun.
Canva has also been incredibly influential, particularly in my marketing class. Canva helps make posters and presentations that are super cute and fun. This app is so easy to use and really helps be learn how people market things and make advertisements. I will definitely continue to use Canva throughout my college experience.
Lastly, I would like to mention how influential Google has been for my learning. Google Classroom is a very easy to use platform where teachers post assignments and resources. It is so easy to have a classroom online where I can access any resource I need at any given time. Google Drive is also extremely helpful for finding documents by being able to organize them in folders. Google is definitely extremely helpful for finding resources quick and easy.

I would like to dive into how golf has tremendously impacted my life. A few years after my dad had passed away, my mom got remarried. I absolutely love my step-father and am so thankful for his incredible impact on my life. He is a very committed golfer and went to state three out of four years in his high school career. He introduced me and my family to this wonderful sport. Our first Christmas together he even bought everyone in our family a set of golf clubs! He then taught everyone in my family how to play golf. We all got memberships at our local country club and we went out to play golf together as a family. Every vacation we always bring our golf clubs and explore beautiful courses wherever we are traveling. Most important of all, this sport helped me and my father bond. My dad loved teaching me how to play golf and loved my passion for the sport. His incredible patience in teaching me showed me how incredible of a person he is. He always showed me kindness and reminisced about his experiences as a young golfer. This sport will always remind me of my father’s love and help us bond together. This sport gives my family a fun and engaging activity to do together to bring us closer together, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

I want a job where I can make a difference in the lives of humans by loving them and helping them reclaim joy.
One word that I believe best describes me is loving. I am a warm-hearted, vibrant, caring person who always wants to lend a hand to someone in need. There is nothing I love more than helping people feel loved, valued, and appreciated. There is much darkness and hatred in this world, and if I can help someone feel seen, valued, and treasured, then I will absolutely do that! I want to bring people out of the despair this world can trap them in and show them how loved they are by God.
I maintain my mental health by reaching out to my friends and loved ones. They help bring out the best in me and help be feel so loved and cherished. I also attend therapy sessions on a weekly basis and practice mindfulness, deep breathing, and journaling on a daily basis. I also make a point to read every day and keep a gratitude jar.
Book Lovers Scholarship
If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, it would be Little Women. This is my favorite book because I can relate so much to the character Meg. We are both sweet and compassionate, but still struggle with things like vanity and jealousy. I can also learn so many amazing things from their mother, Marmee. She is such a fantastic role model for her children to follow and speaks truth into every situation. Her kind heart and spirit are inspiring to everyone around her in the book, and we can all learn from her example how to be more kind and gentle. The book also can be inspiring to us to work hard to achieve our goals. For instance, Jo wanted so hard to be a published author, but didn't give up when she got turned down. Instead, she wrote tirelessly all day and night until she did get published.
Lastly, we can learn from the kindness that Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy all have towards each other. They care about one another very much, which is evident in the connection they all have. They would gather together and act out Pilgrim's Progress, they would all gather with their mother to read cards from their father, and would show hospitality to others together, like when they gave their Christmas breakfast to a family in need. We can learn so much from each other these characters and display more love and kindness to one another as the characters did in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

My name is Kate Thomure and I am a high school student aspiring to attend college to become a psychologist. I have intentions on going to Evangel University to earn my undergraduate degree and then transferring to a graduate university to obtain a doctorate degree in psychology. I am not certain what type of psychologist I am going to become as of now. I am in between a research psychologist, industrial-organizational psychologist, and a child psychologist. I am determined to be a psychologist because of my immense interest in the mind of humans. Put simply, I want to learn as much as I can about how humans operate. If I can understand humans on a deeper level, I can relate to them and help them more effectively. I also want to learn how to be more compassionate towards people, because I believe every person is special, unique, and worthy of love. Every person deserves grace and kindness. My absolute favorite Netflix series is Young Sheldon. This show is hilarious and my family and I watch it together nearly every night. This show is about a brilliant, but slightly awkward, nine-year-old named Sheldon Cooper who advances to high school at this early age. It is a Big Bang Theory spin-off about this character. It follows this fan-favorite character as he attempts to adjust to life as a brilliant kid. The show is not only about Sheldon; it goes over the lives of all of his family members--his parents George and Mary and his siblings Georgie and Missy. His parents struggle with navigating how to parent such an elite thinker, and his siblings struggle a little bit with feeling incompetent compared to Sheldon. Sheldon's mother, Mary, is kindhearted and caring, and she bends over backwards for Sheldon. His father, George, is caring as well but is a lot more carefree than Mary is. His sibling Missy is his twin sister. She is blunt and sassy and is a hilarious character that will always make you laugh. Georgie, Sheldon's brother, is the oldest of the children and is apathetic, funny, and easy going. This show has made me laugh time and time again and has also helped my family bond. We love watching it together and make a lot of jokes from the show.

Taylor Swift's music has helped me discover so much about myself. If my year so far had a soundtrack, the two songs that would be on it from Taylor's 1989 album would be Style and Shake it Off. This is because I struggle a lot with insecurity and not feeling cool enough, smart enough, pretty enough, or likable enough. Style helps me gain confidence and motivates me to just be me! Shake It Off also motivates me. People can be very hateful and mean, and this song helps me not dwell on other people's feelings and what they say. It helps me to gain confidence that I am not who other people say that I am. It helps me notice that even someone as popular, well-known, and well-liked as Taylor Swift struggles with insecurity. Knowing that Taylor has gone through the same struggles helps me feel less alone in this battle.
Her songs also remind me of my childhood. I listened to Taylor Swift songs so much during my childhood and these songs really helps me remember my youth. They inspires me to be more playful and joyful like I was as a kid. Her music brings out the best in me--it reminds me that everyone goes through struggles, and that's okay. Everyone can also conquer these struggles and learn valuable life lessons from them.
Mental Health Scholarship for Women
My mental health has impacted my personal life immensely. There is a stigma around mental health, and it is so hard to admit that you are struggling and seek help because of this. II have been struggling with my mental health for years, but haven't felt confident enough to reach out to a therapist until about a year ago. My counselor has been an incredible resource, helping me reclaim the joy that has been robbed of me. When I recover, I would like to use my experience to lead others out of the dark valleys of anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, and into the delight of living free from the chains of those pains.
I do not have a clear view of what my future will hold. I have set lofty goals for myself, yet am uncertain which direction to go. I am pursuing a higher education by going to college, but am undecided on a major. Ideally I will go to a four year university, though, only if their financial aid is favorable. I have several ideas of which field to major in. For years I have been drawn to the medical field, but recently have veered a different direction. Now, I am considering becoming a licensed counselor, a medical writer, a college professor, or a nurse practitioner. I intend to receive at least a Master’s degree in my field of study, and possibly even a PhD.
Whatever I do, I want to be an impactful member of society that fights to make the world a better place. Recently, I have had a front row seat to the pain of struggling mentally. After my dad passed away, I tried to just stay joyful and positive in front of other people, but my joy wasn’t genuine. It took me so long to confess that I needed support from others. After confessing this, I felt such a sense of freedom. I learn how to better serve others through people’s kindness. Taylor Swift's music has helped me discover so much about myself. I can most relate to her song Antihero. It helps me notice that even someone as popular, well-known, and well-liked as Taylor Swift struggles with insecurity. In this song, Taylor talks about how she believed she was a problem, and how she would stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror. I struggle very much with being content with my appearance, and knowing that Taylor has gone through the same struggles helps me feel less alone in this battle.
Her songs also remind me of my childhood. I listened to Taylor Swift songs so much during my childhood. I always would listen to her Fearless album, and hearing her sing these songs really helps me remember my youth. It inspires me to be more playful and joyful like I was as a kid. Her music brings out the best in me--it reminds me that everyone goes through struggles, and that's okay. Everyone can also conquer these struggles and learn valuable life lessons from them.
Lastly, the Eras tour inspired me to show people kindness. There was a moment in the Eras Tour where Taylor gave a kid her hat during the Red Era and gave her a giant hug. This inspires me to be more kind to people and show them how precious and worthy they are. Taylor inspired me to cultivate kindness in my community.

The novel I have most learned from would be Little Women. This book has has such a powerful impact on my life because of how much I can relate to it. I most relate to Meg in the book because she is kind and caring, but also struggles with vanity and pride. I am able to learn from Meg by how she navigated being a women and showing kindness to others while not letting her vanity and pride get in the way. I am inspired by this book to focus less on my outward appearance and more on how kind I am being to people. Every person has so much worth, and I want to help people realize how worthy they are and how loved they are by God. In this book, I have also been able to learn a lot from Marmee. She always speaks truth into every situation and really helps ease her childrens' minds. She is so wise and loving, and her children learn so much from her. She reminds be of my own mother and helps me be even more thankful for the love of my mother.
I am a high school student who is aspiring to be an industrial-organizational psychologist. I plan to use my education in psychology to learn how to be kinder to people and learn how to relate to them better. I want to show people how valuable and special they are. I plan to obtain a graduate degree in psychology and use this level of education to become a psychologist. As an industrial-organizational psychologist, I will mostly be working with adults in the workforce. I will be traveling to different businesses and organizations, helping people increase their job satisfaction. I will be making recommendations on how all workers can be more efficient and successful. I most want to make an impact on how satisfied people are with their job. This is because your job satisfaction is so vital to your well-being as a person. People spend nearly every day at their job, and if they are not content with it, then it will take a toll on their mental health.
I want to help people reclaim joy and I want to make a difference in peoples' lives. I have learned from my personal experience that if you are not in a good place mentally, this will affect every other facet of your life. I want to encourage and uplift people and help them have an exciting and fulfilling life.

I define success as achieving a lofty goal that you have set for yourself. I do not view success as winning or losing as most do, but rather personal grow. The most basic definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. This means that goals are essential for success—without goals, success cannot be measured. The focus of success for me is growing in character and mindset, along with significant work put forth towards your goals.
I believe this will bring me success in my own life by helping me stay motivated. If I am just focusing on the negatives in life and ignoring all of the growth I have made, then I will get very discouraged. It is hard to succeed with constant negativity and lack of encouragement and motivation.
I also believe this mindset will help bring me success because if I am focusing on personal growth, I will be compelled to invite others to join me and encourage me to work hard to reach my goals. We were not made to go at it alone; to achieve success, we must invite others to cheer us on and motivate us.
