My family have always taught me that a proper education will set me up for life. They believed that once I had finished an education, I would have a career that would allow me to live a life they would've never imagined in their home countries. I can't say that I believed them right away, but as I grew older I realized that they were right. My mom and dad grew up in Latin American countries. My mom, in the north of Mexico living on a rancho, and my dad in the capital of Ecuador. My mom would tell me stories of how she'd have to travel to the closest city to her rancho by a donkey. My dad was luckily able to walk to a school that was close by. My mom was a talented scholar, always receiving praise from her teachers for her hard work and dedication to her studies. My dad doesn't talk much about his days at his catholic school but I know he studied hard. My mom's family didn't believe in sending her to college. They had expectations for my mom to start a family right away after completing high school, but this wasn't the life my mom had dreamt for herself. She ran off to live with my aunt in California, found a job as a nanny, and ultimately met my dad. My dad's family moved to California when he was in high school still, so my dad graduated high school in California. He wasn't sure of what to do with his life, until he found a job working at the stock room of a hospital. After he met my mom at a Salsa dancing club (which i like to mention since we love salsa dancing as a family), my mom became pregnant with my older brother and he wasn't sure of how he was going to take care of his new family. My dad decided to pursue a career in Information Technology, and received a certificate that allowed him to work at the same hospital he was working at previously. He is now an IT analyst that makes great money working at St. David's hospital in Round Rock, Texas. My dad made one of the best decisions of his life by choosing the career that he did. With a world increasing its dependence on technology, I don't think any other choice would've been better for him and he loves it. That's why him and my mom encouraged me to go to college and pick a good career. They wanted me to have a better life here in the United States, and wanted to show me the many opportunities I have available here. I want to make them proud and become a Dental Hygienist. Once I'm established in my career, I want to give back to them and my family who have helped me achieve my dreams in life. I'm happy my parents were brave enough to come to this country, and I'm happy they have allowed me to live a comfortable life with loving parents.
