Hi there! I'm an aspiring occupational therapist with a passion to aid people on their journey towards reaching their fullest potential. I want to support others on their journey to have a better quality of life. I want others to find more meaning in their activities and to carry out necessary tasks.
Currently, I am a massage therapist. I get to practice skills that coincide with those in occupational therapy such as interacting and communicating with clients, document records for assessments and progress, decrease pain and psychological stress, and teach others to be proactive about their health. Massage therapy has also allowed me to volunteer in my community in hospice and palliative care.
One day, I hope I can have a practice with occupational therapy where I can work with combined pediatric and geriatric patients. To facilitate my patients, I currently have ideas for patents to aid in activities of daily living and ideas targeted to innovate devices for several disability conditions. So, in time, I can offer tools for my patients as well as others who can benefit from their use.
Although I am in a good place in life, it has not come without its failures to overcome. After my first few semesters in college I failed enough to be suspended from attending for a year. I was unable to get into the majority of colleges with a transfer GPA restriction. However, I could go to community college and massage school to dig myself out of the hole I built and for the future goals I had. I've learned it's important to remain optimistic despite failures and to always keep going.
