Hi! My name is Karen and I have a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering and am currently working towards a Master's in the same field at the University of Michigan. My future goal after getting my degree is to work as a product developer to improve the sustainability of consumer goods.
I have always had a passion for the sciences and wanted to pursue a career involved in innovation so that I could impact other peoples' lives. Like many others, there were so many times during my first years of undergrad where I wondered whether this was really the right path for me. Some subjects were particularly difficult, but it was only until later that I realized it is all part of the learning process. Things become better once you get the hang of it so long as you have the passion and determination to put in the hard effort in the initial stages. Looking back, there are moments where I have not done as well as I would have liked to. However, I learn the most from my mistakes and I have always strived to do better. Before I knew it, I have become the role model that I used to look up to. For all the people who used to be in my position, blink and you will end up where I am soon enough.
In my free time, I like to cook and build puzzles. Eating and making food is one of my favorite ways to bond. Puzzle building is my favorite hobby, and I would spend hours doing it.
The weight of the financial costs of school is always intimidating, so I am truly thankful for everyone who is helping me tackle student debt!
