Bio

I am an overachieving first-generation student, passionate about learning and helping others. My goals are to achieve higher education, help my mother achieve her dreams, and travel worldwide. I'm a good candidate for this scholarship because I'm an immigrant student that is looking for a way to pay for college, I'm a promising student, and I believe that money shouldn't stop people from achieving their educational dreams.

    Uplifting Latino Leaders Scholarship
The biggest challenge that my community faces are a lack of health and educational resources. I currently make an impact in my community by interning at OLA of Eastern Long Island (Organizacion Latino Americana). In my internship with OLA of Eastern Long Island, I learn about the legal adversities and the unjust treatment my community goes through. While in this internship I help the Latino people of my community solve small problems that to them are very meaningful. My main contributions to the people in my community are interpreting, guiding, and helping basic educate them about their rights. Aside from the Internship with OLA of Eastern Long Island, I also help the people of my community by better educating them on technology. I practice this when other peers and I do community service at the East Hampton Public Library, where we mainly help the elderly people in the community. These two activities are the main ways I help my community, however, if I could do anything else it would be to bring better health resources. I would do this, especially for the Latino population because in the town we reside in Health is not only expensive but hard to find. What I would do to provide better health resources is organize a day of health services for the community. I would most likely do this with a local health organization or an organization that provides services to low-income people in the community. What would be provided on this day of health services would be dental health, physical check-ups, ophthalmologist check-ups, gynecologist check-ups, and all the regular health services that people need. Since all these services can't be fully free what would economically happen is that people would be charged approximately 50 dollars or more to enter which would make all the services available for them, however, if any additional physical exams need to be done we would provide a discount for them but people would have to do those exams separately on their own time. I think this idea of having a day of health services would be very beneficial for the community in general and I plan on realistically bringing up this idea to OLA of Easter Long Island and maybe plan to do something like this in the town I reside in. If we do something like this for the community it would result in a positive impact on the community.
