Brown Skin Agenda Aesthetics & Cosmetology Scholarship
My name is Kamia Green and with this scholarship it would help me to get one step closer to achieving my goal as being a Celebrity Hairstylist. I started to get into beauty when I was a freshman in highschool. The first thing that I learned was box braids. And boy were they awful. But I continued to push through to perfect my craft. I would practice with anyone and everyone that I could. Makeup , hair and skin care are things I see myself doing for the rest of my life. I really enjoy the organic relationship that is created when doing hair. One of my long term goals is to provide services during prom season to girls that have lost a mother just like me. I want to start a foundation that collects everything beauty so that I can give back. I am grateful that I was able to have my mom send me off to prom but my sister didn’t get that same opportunity. I just want to see more representation in my community when I am not considered the beauty standard. So I want to see change for women of color and African American women just like me. We all deserve to feel beautiful even when the world shows and tells us we aren't.
During my time in college (2018), my mother passed away unexpectedly and left me at 18 to help my dad support my two younger siblings. Which later on put me in more debt than I needed to be. So my future dreams have been on pause. But even through the pain and loss of my mom, she has been the reason why I want to reach goals. She has taught me to always bet on myself even when life has thrown me curve balls. And now that my siblings are young adults I can finally focus on myself and do the things that make me happy. 12,15, and 18 is not the best time to lose a mother but it has made me a better person. I learned to be more compassionate and caring to others. I love serving and making people feel good because I went through pain. And making someone feel special through hair and makeup when they feel less then brings joys to my day. With this scholarship it would help me to achieve and reach my future goals. Thank you for your consideration.
