I Can Do Anything Scholarship
A special dream of mine in which I have held dear to my heart is the desire to to enter the medical field. In the meantime I intend to major in General Biology. In fact I have already shown interest in the field of gynecology. Delivering new babies into the world as well as conducting checkups on the expecting mothers all while educating them on their pregnancy is some thing i see as a golden future shining bright for me to reach in due time.

I intend to major in General Biology on a Pre-med track. Healthcare has excited me ever since I was a little girl. Although my dream of working in the medical field began with the dream to heal animals my passion soon progressed to humans as well. I believe that by majoring in Biology I will be able to fulfill my lifelong dream of making an impact in my community and leaving my mark on the world. I have already shown interest in the field of gynecology. Delivering new babies into the world as well as conducting checkups on expecting mothers is what I want my contribution to healthcare to be. I also want to pride myself in educating all mothers I can come in contact with to further educate them on their pregnancy as well as with things that can happen post-pregnancy. I believe that when it comes to pregnancies there are a lot of misconceptions and things that aren't said before someone is in labor and I want to fill that gray area throughout my career. Although I know this dream will take dedication and time I am more than willing to do so. I am set on this path in which I will achieve it in due time. In the meantime, one short-term dream that I want to create is organizing drives collecting hygiene and school products for the kids at lower-income elementary schools. I have already been fortunate enough to come in contact with a local elementary school and within the next year, I hope to hold my first drive. Being that my mother is a teacher being exposed to this reality has inspired me to want to aid in making the space for students more welcoming and making resources they may need more accessible. I have also had the blessing of being able to intern at a local Baptist hospital on the OB floor which is my career of interest. In these past few months, I've been able to experience way more than what you can find by just reading textbooks or Google. When it comes to my inspiration my grandmother who is fully Dominican born and raised along with seven other siblings and is one of the strongest women I know. Being a mostly single mother she always wanted the best for her four kids and never settled for less. She was able to move to the States and gain citizenship along with my mother who was only one year old at the time. My grandmother maintained two and sometimes three jobs to ensure that her children were always happy, well-fed, and provided for. When I was born in 2005 she didn't hesitate to leave her job and work in New Jersey to come to Florida and take care of me. Her love and support will never go unrecognized as she's raised not only amazing children as well as aiding in raising myself and her 3 other grandchildren. My “mama” is the most generous woman I have ever met, she's always been there to help others in whatever way that she can. She would give someone the shoes off her feet to make someone else's day. I hope to continue to make her proud as I grow older to be able to provide for her in the future just like she didn't hesitate to do for her family. Without her, I know I wouldn't be the same as she's always been there to empower me even on days where I didn't feel so empowered as a young black woman in America.

In the meantime, one short-term dream that I want to create is organizing drives collecting hygiene and school products for the kids at lower-income elementary schools. My inspiration behind this initiative was participating in an internship at a nearby elementary school during their summer school program. The first day I began my internship I would have never expected to see the conditions in which these children live but I am glad I have, as I am forever altered in the best way possible. Growing up, I was fortunate to have one of the best family and support systems which have always provided me with the things I needed and more. I knew I grew up fortunate but, honestly you do not realize your privilege until you see people who do not have the advantages you take for granted such as clean clothes and access to healthcare. I have already been fortunate enough to come in contact with a local elementary school and within the next year, I hope to hold my first drive. Being that my mother is a teacher being exposed to this reality has inspired me to want to aid in making the space for students more welcoming and making resources they may need more accessible.
