Hello! I am an incoming freshman and a future Longhorn at the University of Texas at Austin! I am pursuing a major in Pre-Pharmacy/Biology to become a pharmacist or anywhere in the pharmaceutical industry. Throughout my high school career, I have met the best people and been offered many numerous opportunities that have allowed me to grow better as a person. Joining organizations have made a significant impact on my journey of learning. I never expected myself to take on the role of leading a club, but as the Librarian of my orchestra and Vice President of my school’s Key Club, I understood the importance of commitment and responsibility. These positions have provided me with a strong foundation to be successful in life. With the experience and support I have gained from my high school years, I am confident that I will be able to reach for my goals and continue to embrace the opportunities given to me.

WinnerFrom the moment I was born, my parents have made countless sacrifices to secure a better life for me and my family. My parents and grandparents, immigrants from Vietnam, had left their homeland to start a fresh and new life in the United States, determined to create opportunities they never had the chance to have. They worked for long hours, enduring laborious work and hardships to provide for me and my siblings. Their sacrifices were not always vocalized, but they were heard through their actions.
When people are asked the question, “Who has most impacted your life,” they often respond with their mother, emphasizing their caring nature and unconditional love. Fathers, however, are rarely given the same recognition, even though their dedication and sacrifices are just as significant. My dad is the epitome of resilience and selflessness, showing both love and unwavering support to the family. Growing up, I always admired how hard my dad worked to provide for my family. He often came home exhausted after working long hours, but he never showed it. All of his stress and struggles were always masked with a warm smile and an enthusiastic hug. No matter how rough his day had been, he always had the energy to ask about ours. As I grew older, I began seeing myself as a “mini version” of him–trying to emulate his hard working nature and commitment to others. Watching him face life’s challenges with such strength had influenced my perspective on how to approach my own responsibilities. I want to give back to my dad by returning the love, care, and support I received throughout my life. I hope to honor his sacrifices to show him how much his efforts have inspired me.
My mother is the foundation that keeps our family grounded, holding everything together even in the toughest times. While my father’s hard work was evident in his long shifts, my mother’s were entwined into my family’s daily lives. From waking up early to prepare breakfast to staying up late to make sure everything was set the next morning, she carried the weight of our family with quiet resilience. No matter how exhausted she was, she never once complained, always prioritizing our well-being over her own. As I have grown, I have come to understand the magnitude of her dedication for my family. What may be seen as small gestures–cooking meals, offering words of encouragement, or simply being there when I needed her– are, in reality, acts of love that have shaped my life. Her unyielding resilience has shaped my understanding of strength–not as grit, but as being capable of giving selflessly. I wish to repay my mother by reciprocating the same affection, concern, and gratitude she has bestowed upon me, so that her efforts would not be wasted.
The sacrifices my parents have made for me are in ways that are immeasurable, and their unwavering dedication has turned me into the individual I am today. Their resilience, love, and sacrifices have given me the strength to face a better future. Even the greatest type of strength is not only achieved through endurance but also by the strength to give without expecting anything in return. As I go through my life, I hope to live their sacrifices by continuing the same morals they have taught me and carry on their legacy.
