Bio

My name is Julius Heiland and I currently attend Millersville University. I help out at my old high school as a volunteer coaching assistant for the boys soccer team. In my free time I love playing soccer, basketball, video games, golf, and working out! I pursue education in the field of Technological Education in hopes of one day teaching in middle school or high school! I dream of going back to my home school to teach, but I'd be happy with any school near my family! I left high school not sure what I wanted to do in life. I originally was going to attend a 2 year college and go for some sort of electrician degree. I was inspired by my previous wood shop teacher to go into the field of education and eventually would switch from history to Tech Ed! I hope my story stands out as I look to use these scholarships to make my future easier and hopefully give back later in life to people just like me. No matter what stage you are in life you can always get back into school and find something you love. Thank you!

    “The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
It may be a little cliche or boring, but I always enjoyed Jim Halpert the most. This is probably because of how likeable he is and nonchalant about anything that comes his way. He just seems to act in a similar way as me since I love making sarcastic jokes and messing around with my buddies as he did with Dwight. Jim also found the love of his life in Pam by battling for her and never giving up even though she was engaged to the wrong guy. Luckily I have found a woman who is extremely important to me as well and who I can joke around with just like he does in the show. In the show Jim is a little awkward at times but never gives up. He always finds a way to push through like in the episode where him and a few associates went golfing. He ended up getting the deal done through perseverance and determination which is something I live by. Anything can be done with hard work no matter the difficulty. I think being able to joke around with people at work and school allows the atmosphere to loosen up a bit. It's a great way to calm your nerves and have a bit of fun while doing any kind of work. Jim always found a way to have fun and get the work done at the same time which I try to do everyday!
    “Stranger Things” Fanatic Scholarship
If I were to form a squad to face a new supernatural threat in the world of *Stranger Things*, I would choose Eleven, Jim Hopper, and Steve Harrington. Each of these characters brings unique strengths that would make them a formidable team. **Eleven** is an obvious choice due to her telekinetic abilities and strong connection to the Upside Down. Her powers have been instrumental in fighting supernatural threats throughout the series. Eleven's psychic powers allow her to move objects with her mind, project herself into other locations, and communicate telepathically. Her emotional resilience and bravery are also crucial, as she often finds the strength to push her limits when her friends are in danger. **Jim Hopper**, the tough and resourceful police chief, provides leadership and combat skills to the team. His experience as a former detective and his knowledge of Hawkins and its secrets make him invaluable. Hopper's protective nature and willingness to put himself in harm's way for the safety of others demonstrate his commitment to defeating any threat. His tactical thinking and ability to remain calm under pressure help the team navigate complex situations. **Steve Harrington** might initially seem like an unlikely choice, but his character development throughout the series has turned him into a courageous and reliable fighter. Steve's adaptability and quick thinking make him a great asset. His experience in fighting off threats alongside the kids has honed his combat skills, and his dedication to his friends is unwavering. Additionally, Steve's humor and charisma can help keep morale high during challenging times. Together, this squad combines supernatural abilities, strategic leadership, and relatable courage. They are capable of facing unknown dangers with a blend of power, determination, and camaraderie. This combination of characters ensures a balance of strength, strategy, and heart, making them well-suited to tackle any supernatural threat that comes their way.
    Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
One of my favorite Nintendo games to play in co-op mode is *Super Mario Odyssey*. The game’s cooperative play mode, where one player controls Mario and the other controls Cappy, offers a unique and dynamic way to experience the game together. A standout moment that solidified *Super Mario Odyssey* as my top choice occurred during a co-op session with my younger cousin. We were exploring the “Cascade Kingdom,” a vibrant area filled with lush landscapes and intriguing puzzles. We came across a particularly challenging section involving a sequence of moving platforms and enemies. As Mario, I was tasked with navigating the platforms while Cappy, controlled by my cousin, needed to clear the enemies and activate switches to progress. We faced multiple failed attempts, with us falling off platforms and missing timing cues. Each failure was met with laughter and lighthearted teasing, which only made the experience more enjoyable. Then, on one successful attempt, we synchronized perfectly. My cousin used Cappy to stun an enemy just as I jumped to a platform. I threw Cappy to hit a distant switch, and my cousin expertly maneuvered it to clear the remaining obstacles. The exhilaration of overcoming the challenge together was palpable. We cheered, high-fived, and laughed, realizing that our teamwork had turned a difficult section into a memorable triumph. This cooperative experience in *Super Mario Odyssey* highlighted the joy of working together and shared achievement. It wasn't just about the gameplay but also the camaraderie and fun that came with it. That session cemented *Super Mario Odyssey* as my favorite co-op game, a testament to the power of collaboration and shared experiences in gaming.

My decision to pursue a career in teaching was inspired by a combination of personal experiences and a deep-seated passion for education. From a young age, I found myself drawn to the process of learning and the joy of sharing knowledge. Growing up, I was fortunate to have several influential teachers who ignited my curiosity and encouraged my intellectual and personal growth. Their dedication and impact on my life left an indelible mark on me and planted the seed for my own journey into education. One of the pivotal moments that solidified my decision to become a teacher was my involvement in tutoring and mentoring throughout high school and college. I volunteered to help younger students with their studies and became involved in various educational outreach programs. Through these experiences, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education. I saw students gain confidence, develop a love for learning, and achieve goals they once thought were beyond their reach. The satisfaction of making a tangible difference in their lives fueled my desire to make teaching my career. In pursuing this path, my goal is to create an environment where students feel valued, inspired, and empowered. I believe that every child has the potential to succeed, and it is my responsibility to nurture their individual talents and foster a love for learning. To make a meaningful difference, I plan to focus on several key areas in my teaching career. First, I aim to build strong, supportive relationships with my students. Understanding their unique needs, interests, and backgrounds will allow me to tailor my teaching approach to be more effective and engaging. This supportive atmosphere will be instrumental in helping them overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Second, I am committed to employing innovative teaching methods that cater to different learning styles. Incorporating technology, hands-on activities, and collaborative projects into my lessons will make learning more dynamic and relevant. By making education interactive and enjoyable, I hope to spark curiosity and foster a lifelong love for learning. Additionally, I plan to stay current with educational research and best practices to continually improve my teaching strategies and address the evolving needs of my students. Lastly, I believe in the importance of promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In an ever-changing world, it is crucial for students to develop the ability to think independently, analyze information, and make informed decisions. By encouraging inquiry-based learning and providing opportunities for students to explore and question, I aim to equip them with the skills they need to navigate complex issues and become responsible, engaged citizens. In summary, my inspiration to pursue a career in teaching stems from a deep appreciation for the transformative power of education and the impact that dedicated teachers have had on my own life. By fostering supportive relationships, employing innovative teaching methods, and promoting critical thinking, I plan to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children. My goal is to inspire and empower students, helping them to achieve their potential and develop a lifelong passion for learning.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
One lyric from Olivia Rodrigo’s album *GUTS* that profoundly resonates with my own teenage experience is from the song “Vampire”: “I used to think I was a smart kid, thought I’d be a million miles away by the time I was 26.” This line captures the essence of adolescence by highlighting the gap between youthful expectations and the reality of growing up. In my teenage years, I, too, held grand aspirations and a vision of myself as someone who would achieve remarkable things by a certain age. The idealism of youth often comes with a belief that the future will unfold in an idealized way—quick successes and smooth transitions into adulthood. The realization that life doesn’t always align with these dreams can be jarring, and Rodrigo’s lyric beautifully encapsulates that moment of disillusionment. The lyric speaks to the feeling of being let down by reality after having set high expectations for oneself. As teenagers, we are often filled with ambition and confidence, believing that our plans and dreams will easily materialize. We imagine ourselves as pioneers in our fields, achieving great things with seemingly little effort. However, the transition to adulthood frequently presents unforeseen challenges, roadblocks, and delays. This clash between expectation and reality can be disheartening, leading to a period of reflection and adjustment. For me, this lyric reflects the struggle of grappling with my own unmet expectations. As a teenager, I envisioned a clear path forward, expecting to reach certain milestones by specific ages. Yet, the path was never as straightforward as I imagined. I encountered obstacles, made mistakes, and faced the sobering realization that success and self-fulfillment often come with more complexity and time than anticipated. Furthermore, this lyric touches on the theme of self-criticism that often accompanies adolescence. As we grow older, we reflect on our past ambitions and question why we haven’t achieved them as quickly as we hoped. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy and frustration, especially when comparing ourselves to the achievements of peers or the idealized versions of ourselves we once held. Rodrigo’s expression of this sentiment resonates deeply with anyone who has felt disillusioned by the gap between their youthful dreams and their current reality. The lyric also underscores the universal nature of these feelings. While individual experiences may vary, the sentiment of grappling with unfulfilled expectations and the reality of adulthood is something many adolescents face. It reflects a common part of growing up—realizing that life doesn’t always follow the script we imagine and learning to navigate these deviations with resilience and adaptability. In essence, Olivia Rodrigo’s lyric from “Vampire” encapsulates the heartache and growth associated with coming to terms with the reality of our lives versus our expectations. It highlights a crucial aspect of adolescence: the painful yet pivotal process of reconciling our dreams with reality and finding a new path forward. This line not only reflects personal disillusionment but also speaks to a broader experience shared by many as they transition from the idealism of youth to the complexities of adulthood.

**What Could Go Wrong?** The sun had barely begun its ascent over the sleepy town of Eldridge when Dr. Penelope Wright, the town’s beloved but eccentric inventor, burst into the town hall with a flourish. Clutched in her hands was an intricate contraption of gears, levers, and gleaming copper tubes that looked like it had been snatched from the pages of a Victorian steampunk novel. She was brimming with excitement, her wild hair and disheveled lab coat giving her the appearance of a kindly mad scientist. “Ladies and gentlemen!” she announced with an air of theatricality, “I present to you the future of problem-solving: the ‘What-Could-Go-Wrong-O-Matic!’” The townspeople gathered, curiosity piqued. Dr. Wright was known for her ambitious inventions, some of which had, admittedly, not gone according to plan. There was the time she’d attempted to create a robot that could cook gourmet meals but had instead produced a towering inferno of flaming pancakes. Or the experiment with anti-gravity boots that had resulted in a rather alarming sight—people floating unceremoniously in the town square, struggling to get down. “What does it do?” asked Mr. Abernathy, the skeptical town baker, his eyes narrowing as he observed the contraption. “Ah, excellent question!” Dr. Wright replied, her eyes sparkling. “The What-Could-Go-Wrong-O-Matic is designed to anticipate and mitigate any potential mishaps before they occur. It’s a safety net, a crystal ball of caution, a veritable oracle of what might go awry.” Murmurs of approval mixed with skepticism rippled through the crowd. “So, it’s like a magic eight ball but for disasters?” Miss Clara, the local librarian, asked, clearly intrigued. “Precisely!” Dr. Wright confirmed, her excitement barely contained. “Now, let’s put it to the test. I’ll need a volunteer.” The crowd shifted uneasily, each person eyeing the device with a mixture of awe and apprehension. Finally, Sam Jenkins, a daring young man with a penchant for adventure, stepped forward. “I’ll do it,” he said with a grin. “What could possibly go wrong?” Dr. Wright’s face lit up. “Excellent! Here, Sam, take this.” She handed him a pair of odd-looking glasses, which he put on with a bemused look. “Now, simply go about your usual day, and the What-Could-Go-Wrong-O-Matic will alert us if anything is amiss.” Sam nodded and wandered off into the town. As he strolled past the bakery, the contraption whirred and beeped, its gears spinning with renewed fervor. A small screen on the device flickered to life, displaying a series of warnings. “Warning: Overheated oven detected. Possible risk of smoke,” the screen read. Just as the message appeared, the bakery’s oven emitted a faint whiff of smoke. Mr. Abernathy quickly turned off the oven, averting what could have been a small kitchen disaster. The townspeople applauded Dr. Wright’s invention. “See?” Dr. Wright said proudly. “It’s working perfectly!” Sam continued his day, and the What-Could-Go-Wrong-O-Matic dutifully reported potential issues as he went. When he approached the bridge over Mill Creek, the device issued a new alert. “Warning: Structural instability detected. Risk of collapse,” it said. Sam glanced at the bridge, which seemed to be holding up just fine. Nonetheless, he decided to tread carefully and reported the issue to the town’s maintenance crew. The crew inspected the bridge and found a minor issue that could have become serious if ignored. They quickly fixed it, thanks to the advance warning. The day was shaping up to be a success, but as the sun began to set, things took a turn for the unexpected. Sam was nearing the end of his journey when the What-Could-Go-Wrong-O-Matic began to beep frantically. The screen flashed an alarming red. “Warning: Critical malfunction detected. Risk of complete breakdown,” it read. Dr. Wright’s face turned pale. “Oh no,” she murmured. “That’s not supposed to happen.” Sam stopped in his tracks, the townspeople gathering around him with worried expressions. The contraption began to emit sparks and strange noises, its once-smooth operation now a chaotic cacophony. In a flash of blue and green light, the machine sputtered and whirred, and then, with a loud clank, it fell silent. Dr. Wright rushed to the contraption, her eyes wide with concern. “I’ll fix it,” she declared, her voice tinged with both panic and determination. The crowd watched in silence as Dr. Wright worked furiously, her hands deftly adjusting dials and reattaching loose wires. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally gave a relieved sigh as the machine hummed back to life, albeit with a slightly ominous wheeze. “Well,” Dr. Wright said, standing up with a sheepish smile, “it appears that even the best inventions can have their hiccups. But let’s not forget the positive outcomes. We averted several potential disasters today!” The townspeople, though initially wary, couldn’t help but appreciate the day’s strange but ultimately successful events. They had witnessed firsthand the power of foresight and the importance of vigilance. The What-Could-Go-Wrong-O-Matic had, despite its flaws, provided valuable warnings and averted multiple crises. As the townspeople dispersed, they couldn’t help but chuckle at the day’s unexpected turns. The contraption, though imperfect, had proven itself a worthy addition to Eldridge’s quirky history. Dr. Wright, ever resilient, vowed to continue refining her invention. After all, even when things go awry, they often lead to surprising lessons and a bit of humor. So, what could go wrong? Perhaps everything and nothing at once. In the end, it’s not just about avoiding mishaps but learning to navigate them with a bit of ingenuity and a good dose of optimism.
    Marie Humphries Memorial Scholarship
A career in teaching can be profoundly appealing for various reasons, offering a unique blend of personal satisfaction, intellectual stimulation, and societal impact. For many, the decision to become a teacher is driven by a deep-seated passion for learning and a desire to share that enthusiasm with others. Teaching provides an opportunity to engage continuously with one’s subject matter, fostering a lifelong learning environment both for the educator and the students. This ongoing intellectual engagement can be immensely rewarding, as it allows teachers to stay updated with new developments in their field while guiding students through their educational journeys. One of the most compelling aspects of teaching is the potential to make a significant impact on students' lives. Teachers influence their students in numerous ways, shaping not only their academic knowledge but also their self-esteem, social skills, and future aspirations. For many, the chance to inspire, support, and guide young people through their formative years is a powerful motivator. The ability to witness students achieve their goals, overcome challenges, and develop into confident individuals provides a sense of purpose and gratification that is central to the teaching profession. Personal fulfillment is another key factor that draws me into teaching. The profession demands a considerable emotional investment, but it also offers a profound sense of accomplishment. Teachers experience the satisfaction of knowing that their efforts contribute to their students' growth and success. The daily interactions with students celebrating their achievements, offering support during difficulties, and fostering their enthusiasm for learning create a rewarding experience that is both impactful and deeply satisfying. Furthermore, teaching provides ample opportunities for creativity and innovation. Educators have the freedom to design lesson plans, develop engaging educational materials, and experiment with new teaching strategies. This creative latitude can be particularly appealing to those who enjoy finding innovative ways to present complex concepts and make learning more effective and enjoyable. The challenge of adapting teaching methods to meet diverse student needs fosters creative problem-solving and encourages innovative thinking. The opportunity to build lasting relationships and contribute to a broader community is another attractive aspect of teaching. Teachers often form strong bonds with their students, colleagues, and parents. These relationships extend beyond the classroom and contribute to a sense of belonging and community. Additionally, I have had many teacher impact me throughout my time in school. Most have come in the field that I plan on working in once I graduate which is Tech Ed. Mr. Nikolaus was the first teacher that inspired me to go into this field. I loved working in the wood shop and completing projects. My previous advisor and professor is also very important to me. This is because she revived my love for this work and believed in me when I needed it most. She made me love learning again and I couldn't thank her enough since she is a big reason why I am still in college. Lastly, teaching often provides a stable career with a range of benefits, including job security, health insurance, and retirement plans. This stability can be particularly attractive to individuals seeking a reliable and rewarding career path. The combination of job security and the intrinsic rewards associated with teaching makes it a compelling choice for those passionate about education and dedicated to making a positive impact on future generations. In summary, a career in teaching offers a unique blend of intellectual engagement, personal fulfillment, creativity, and community involvement. The opportunity to impact students' lives positively, coupled with the satisfaction derived from ongoing professional development and job stability, makes teaching a deeply gratifying and meaningful career choice.
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
The United States of America are consistently among the best if not the best Nation in every Olympics they have competed in for the past century. Our nation has seen many honours of gold, silver, and bronze medals across every Olympic Games we have competed in. One of the competitors that has inspired me and shown courage and determination would be Noah Lyles. He has proven to many that he is one of the greatest sprinters in the world and now has something to show for it with a gold medal for the USA. He won by less than the time it takes for a hummingbird to flap it's own wings to keep itself in the air. In my opinion that is incredible considering how fast they flap their wings and how agile they are. Another reason why I look up to someone like Noah Lyles is because he is a former Florida Gator. I remember watching players like Tim Tebow and his significance towards Christianity in the NFL and College football so it is very nice to see another Gator prove the world wrong by winning in their own way! Noah Lyles will go down in history after winning his first ever Olympic medal, and it's not just a medal, it's gold. He showed the world that hard work and determination can get you anywhere in life. I love how he is also working towards bringing more recognition to the sport by trying to get a sneaker deal as well! He clearly wants sprinters around the world to follow his footsteps so they can be financially safe like many other athletes in other bigger sports like basketball or soccer. In conclusion, Noah Lyles story and determination to succeed is inspiring. I hope that many follow his footsteps and help change the sport even half the way he did!
