Hello, my name is Julianna James, 24, and this past year has been the most pivotal year thus far in my life. I was introduced to Elevation church through a friend, not knowing I would find back my faith and lean on faith as much as I have been. I am currently in Nursing School, and I was previously at a school in which I was not excelling or had proper guidance per the school. I fully understand nothing is given to you; however, the environment was not conducive. Throughout my time there looking back I ignored all the red flags not knowing they were signs from God.
During my final breaking point, I ended up transferring schools, all while taking my religion seriously. I started attending church every Sunday, to joining an Egroup online that meets once a week. I felt like all my moves since have been guided by the Lord himself. I took my faith to the next level and decided to get baptized, driving a total of 4 hours by myself making this choice for me. I have come from a very goal-oriented household, told to always reach for the stars which is amazing. My father was never really on board with nursing as he does not understand the importance of being a nurse and how I am making a difference in my field already. It is always, “Why not a doctor? Why are you settling?”. When in reality I am not. This is my calling, and this is where I know I am supposed to be. With my father not being religious, believing everything he has is because of how hard he worked, granted I am not dismissing his work ethic, however, what we have is because of the strength God has given us, and on top of his not seeing my vision through nursing, I am left to fund my way through life.
The road has definitely not been easy. I have definitely hit some roadblocks; however, I am holding strong. I have made the dean’s list/honor roll since transferring schools every quarter, currently holding a 3.61 GPA, and currently a peer educator, and a student ambassador for my school. One thing that has remained the same is my best-friend relationship with my mom. She really is my biggest supporter and motivator, and I will not stop until I make her proud. Throughout this journey, I have learned patience with myself, and to trust the process. I know God will fulfill the rest as long as I do my part.
I am dedicated to making a difference in the healthcare profession, by standing up for the career one is called to be in. I am starting with the higher roles I am executing at my school’s institution and that is just the beginning. I am currently a nurse extern at a hospital and love how hands-on I get to be. Making the connections with not only my peers but with patients to where they have handwritten back letters to the hospital thanking me for the care, drives me to get up every day knowing I am in the right direction. Thank you for taking the time to read my story's tip of the iceberg.
