      Harry D Thomson Memorial Scholarship
The focus of my 16th birthday was that I could now get a job. I have been working ever since at both a local grocery store and my aunt's spa. I knew that I would have to buy my car, pay for my own insurance, and now it’s up to me to pay for my own college education. My parents couldn’t help pay for my older sibling's education, and they definitely cannot help paying for both my and my twin brothers' education at the same time; but I have already known this, which is why I spend my time after school working. I am committed to college as an applied biomedical science major. This scholarship will help me attain my goals because while I have become excellent at balancing school with my jobs, I know that I want to dedicate all of my focus to my college major. I plan to work hard towards becoming a medical lab scientist, which not a lot of people even know is a profession. Medical lab scientists are the people responsible for analyzing all of the blood samples, tissue cultures, and tests that are sent to the ‘lab’. Analyzing these specimens helps reach a patient diagnosis that could save their lives. Rather than worrying about financial stability in college, I want to dedicate my time to becoming a scientist who can determine and deliver a diagnosis that could lead to saving a patient’s life. I was always nervous about attending college and adapting to the social life, but throughout my experiences at my vocational technical high school as a student nursing assistant, I have become so much more confident in my social skills. I have learned to love talking to new people and I am so excited about the new experiences in college.
