Growing up in a home with a bass player of a father and a singer for a mother, it was inevitable that I would be sitting here today sharing my talent. Most people have a talent, gift, or skill they feel is very special and needs to be shared with the world. For myself, my music is essential to my application. As a foster child placed in the evergrowing system of parentless children; I had taken a keen interest in watching music videos and listening to music in the foster home.
At the age of 5, I would begin visiting my soon-to-be adoptive parents. While en route to my first meeting with my adoptive parents I wondered “what could my new parents look like?” and the nervousness set in. But upon arrival, I felt excited yet relaxed and I knew what I was going to ask them when I would meet them; “Do you have drums?”. Call it intuition or a gut feeling but I call it destiny. My soon-to-be adoptive father answered, “Yes They're downstairs bud” before he could even finish his sentence I ran through the house and realized he had told me the drums were downstairs. I flew to the steps ran down and threw the door what seemed like off its hinges. To My amazement, the downstairs main area was a recording studio. My parents often remind me of the fact that I went completely ballistic and since then I have been on my musical journey.
Fast-forwarding about a year later at the age of 6, I had been adopted. And all through the processes of the adoption I had been studying and playing the drums as much as I could. My dad decided to start paying for drum lessons and from the age of 6 I was professionally trained for around 10 years until my instructor informed me “we are learning together now, there’s nothing more I can teach you”. At this moment I realized that music was what I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life.
I began engaging in as many activities revolving around music as possible. Currently, I’m a drum major of the Woodland Hills Marching Band and Images Visual ensemble. Through my skill as a leader and a musician, I have made it to a staff position within the band. Being a drum major has been a goal of mine ever since the age of 10 after attending a football game and seeing the drum major. The drum major represents the band and in competition represents the entire school district. I now also do recording arts and help artists with studio recording and music production.
I have been able over the years been able to treat my never-ending addiction to music and develop my sound to express myself and my feelings when it comes to music. Music touches the souls and hearts of others and can bring people together and I would like to further develop and continue my journey through music with an education from the Mary Pappert School Of Music.
