Bio

I'm a bit of a late bloomer in relation to knowing what I want to do in life. Up until I was almost 24, I had no direction or goals in life. I had a history of alcohol abuse, depression, and ADHD that held me back for a long time. I was a terrible student for the most part. I didn't care about school and never knew what I wanted. After wasting my some of my young adult years with my struggles with alcohol and depression that sometimes loom over me still, I finally decided what I wanted and what I'm passionate about. I realized I had a newfound love for science. Constantly learning and wondering how some of the greatest minds have moved us forward. I want to contribute to the world in some way. Be part of something that moves the human race forward. Part of the forefront of innovation and advancement are Engineers. With my new passion for Physics and Math along with my desire to contribute something good for the human race, I decided I wanted to be an Engineer. As I complete my pre requisite credits at community college and learn more about electromagnetism and programming, I decide I want to major in Electrical Engineering. Writing this now, I have recently been accepted into the University of Pittsburgh's engineering school having earned a 4.0 GPA the last 5 consecutive semesters including summer semesters. It's almost funny to look at my transcript to see poor grades from darker times only to be contrasted with the straight A's when I decided what I wanted. I've made many mistakes in my life and had my fill of suffering, but I wouldn't have it any other way because those experiences are what brought me to where I am today. Having moved out when I was 19, I've been financially independent as a young adult. As I complete the necessary steps in transitioning to Pitt, the reality of the massive costs sink in. My Dad has five other kids to support and my Mom doesn't make much as a waitress, so financially, I'm on my own. I make enough to get by as a delivery driver, but it's not the most lucrative occupation. I hope that benevolent donors may ease some of this great cost to me truly believing they are investing in someone who is dedicated to moving all of us forward and giving back to the world.
