Upon graduating high school I attended a trade school to earn a Power Engineering technician certificate to work in the power production industry. After working in this field for 2 years I have decided that I want to continue to pursue a higher education and to become a mechanical engineer and continue working in the energy sector. I have always been driven to succeed and I believe this next chapter of education and experience will give me the qualifications I need to make a real and lasting difference in the world around me.

Dr. Samuel Attoh Legacy Scholarship
To me the legacy of ones life is the story that they will leave behind. People who live their life for themselves and do not care to give to the people around them, they will leave this world with no legacy worth being remembered. Whereas the person who gives to all around them and cares for the people close to them, those are the people who will leave a strong legacy. A legacy is not about money, or power, or influence, it is about a good, pure and selfless heart. The people who choose to help the people around them even when it comes at a cost to themselves are the people who leave good legacies. A strong legacy supports, encourages, and challenges the people who have seen it or heard it. One strong legacy can inspire countless more around them for however long the legacy is told. Sadly, just as a strong legacy can inspire and encourage people, a poor legacy can leave people stranded, hurt, rejected, and uncared for. These legacies effect the people around them as well. People in positions of leadership especially have a strong effect on the people around them through their legacy. Parents are one such group of people who's legacy strongly effects their children. In my life, rejection from my parents has had a difficult effect on my life. I hope to break this cycle of rejection and selfishness by trying to focus on the people around me. Instead of trying to find the best ways to make me happy or successful I want to look at the people around me and try to make them happy and successful. As I have done this in my recent life I have found that this practice of living for others is actually the best way to live for oneself. Of course one needs to take care of their own problems and life requirements, but it is so important to focus on trying to make the life of the people around you better. So many problems in the world right now is that everyone is focused on themselves and this is what I believe is the root of the problems in my family that has effected me. It is my life goal to break this cycle and to show the people around me that it is possible to break negative cycles through caring for everyone around us. I hope that when my life draws near to the end my legacy will be strong and that it will encourage and inspire everyone who came into contact with me or heard my story.
International Student Scholarship
Gaining an education has always been a dream of mine and to accomplish this dream in the United States is truly a gift that I will forever be grateful for. However, with this dream comes many different types of difficulties, struggles, and trials. Perhaps the most difficult, and seemingly insurmountable, struggle is the cost of education at Universities for an international student. The cost of a good education is in the United States is very expensive for an international student like myself. More than just the cost of tripled or quadrupled tuition fees, international students must pay extra fees for their visa, their education verification, their change of licenses, traveling to and from the countries of origin and other fees that may be specific for the individual. All of these fees, including the much higher tuition cost, makes an education in the United States as an international student impossible for many people. Scholarships such as these are so important for us to make our educational goals a possibility. This scholarship will specifically help me to pay for my upcoming tuition. As I continue with my education I must find ways to conserve my savings to allow me to finish my education. With the possibility of these scholarships I can focus more on achieving my best academic success and not have to stress about the issues surrounding acquiring the appropriate funds to pay for my school.
As much as it is expensive and there are many more steps for an international student living in the United States, I am very grateful for this opportunity and I am excited for what my future holds. I understand that American schools must cater first toward American students and that they receive lower tuition as a result of the subsidization that these schools receive from taxpayer money. For these reasons I am not bitter toward my school at all but rather I am grateful still for the opportunity. I hope that I will make the best out of my education and that I will make this expensive endeavor well worth it.
I am an engineering student in North Carolina and I am planning on transferring to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2023. I have previous experience in the power production industry and I hope to continue in this field with a mechanical engineering degree that focuses on power production and transmission. I hope with this degree I can have the appropriate knowledge to make the world around me a little better and use my education for the better of society!
Crenati Foundation Supporting International Students Scholarship
I believe in the possibility for a better future. We have the opportunities and the knowledge in our modern age to be more and do more. I want to be the person who does as much as I can for the people and the world around me. For me, this will be through my daily life, my relationships, and through my career choice and ambitions. My educational goals are simple but practical. I am striving to become a mechanical engineer through the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I previously worked at a power plant as an engineering technician. This plant specialized in burning waste wood and commercial products to safely produce power and burn products that would otherwise go to landfill. This type of work inspired me to get my degree as an engineer so I can further develop and spread this kind of power production to help rid the world of dangerous waste. There is energy in everything we come across and it is important to not waste it. Therefore, I think it is crucial to harvest the energy in waste products as well as to dispose of them in this beneficial way. It is my dream to not only impact the city that I worked in northern Ontario but to affect the world. I believe this step in my education is a very fundamental aspect of my journey. By gaining the expertise in the field of power production and management, I hope to use my knowledge to continue to propel the sustainable energy field in which I was already involved in.
As a technician I worked side by side with mechanical engineers and various levels of management. What I saw in them was the potential to have an impact. Seeing the opportunities they had gave me the ambition I needed to dive into my studies to get a degree as a mechanical engineer. I realize that with much power comes much responsibility and the more I learn in my classes the more I realize how it is my duty to do all I can to make the world a better place. I am excited to be on this journey and I am confident that I will push through until the end. My ambition has taken me this far and I am determined to do my part. It is my dream, as a mechanical engineer, to be able to use my knowledge, skills, and position of leadership to give back to the world and the people who gave me what I needed to make a difference.
Jacob Daniel Dumas Memorial Scholarship
Ever since a young age I have been fascinated by the way the world works and how things move and change. I have always been adept with my hands through fixing things and creating new things. By having an intrinsic desire to learn how things work, I have been able to apply this quality to my professional world as well as my education. When I was 7 years old my parents took my brothers, sisters and myself on a 12 year excursion around the world. Even though we came back home every year, I spent most of my childhood in foreign countries. This experience gave me a unique perspective on life as I learned to see things from different angles. I attempted to absorb the unique characteristics of each culture that I was in and to learn from the people there. Through this process, I learned that every type of person and culture has individual ways in which they approach life and how they solve problems. All these different influences has given me a very diverse look on the world as a whole and also of each small part of my life. This has allowed me to think out of the box and formulate ideas that may not have been thought of before. With the combination of my curiosities of the world and how things work, coupled with my worldwide experience is the main reason why I am pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the STEM field. As much as other career paths offer unique, and equally important, opportunities and solutions to modern-day problems, I believe that the hands on and real world topics in which engineers find themselves in to be uniquely catered to my type of skills and interests.
My experience prior to beginning to education towards a mechanical engineering degree is in the energy sector as a power engineer technician which I obtained shortly after graduating high school. This step into the world of mechanics, engineering, and power production inspired me greatly to continue my education with a focus on energy. Within the topic of energy I am fascinated by the production and many various uses of energy. I also am very interested in the different forms of energy and how energy may be derived and used within different forms. There is a world of possibilities and the world in which we live in has many secrets that are left to be discovered in this incredibly diverse and important topic of energy.
