A Digital Nomad's Cybersecurity Journey
As I near the completion of my graduate studies in cybersecurity, I envision a life that harmonizes my passion for technology with the freedom of a digital nomad. My dream unfolds as I imagine waking up in various corners of the world—from a cozy apartment overlooking the bustling streets of Tokyo to a serene beach house in Bali. This nomadic lifestyle is not merely about travel; it's about immersing myself in diverse cultures and perspectives on digital privacy and security, allowing me to apply this global insight to my work.
In this ideal future, I see myself collaborating with international organizations and startups, helping them bolster their defenses against evolving cyber threats. My laptop serves as my office, with high-speed internet connections in co-working spaces around the globe enabling me to secure networks and protect sensitive data. I picture leading virtual workshops for companies in Europe while enjoying coffee in a South American café, bridging time zones and cultures through the universal language of cybersecurity.
Continuous learning is a cornerstone of my dream life. I envision attending cybersecurity conferences in tech hubs like San Francisco and Singapore, not just as an attendee but as a speaker sharing insights from my unique global experiences. Each new location presents challenges that become case studies, enriching the collective knowledge of the cybersecurity community. This diversity not only sharpens my skills but allows me to make a tangible difference across various sectors and communities.
Ultimately, my dream life is about achieving harmony between work and personal passions. I see myself taking breaks from finding the next cyber threat to explore ancient ruins or complete a food tour, nurturing creativity and my love of food as a cybersecurity professional. Additionally, I aim to give back by mentoring aspiring professionals via YouTube or other social media platforms. This scholarship would help me accomplish this vision, enabling me to embark on an extraordinary journey of securing the digital world while embracing the adventure of a nomadic lifestyle.
This dream extends beyond personal fulfillment; it's about creating a ripple effect in the cybersecurity field. By living and working in different countries, I'll gain unique insights into regional cyber threats and defense strategies. This knowledge will be invaluable in developing more comprehensive, globally-aware security solutions. I also envision collaborating with local tech communities, organizing hackathons, and contributing to open-source security projects. These experiences will not only enhance my skills but also foster international cooperation in cybersecurity. Moreover, as a female professional in a male-dominated field, I hope to inspire more women to pursue careers in cybersecurity, showcasing how the field can offer both professional growth and personal freedom. Through my journey, I aim to challenge the traditional notions of a cybersecurity career, proving that one can make a significant impact while embracing a lifestyle of continuous learning, cultural immersion, and global exploration.

As a dedicated and driven individual, I have always strived to balance my passion for technology with a strong commitment to personal and professional growth. My educational journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, where I discovered my fascination with cybersecurity. This interest led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, where I am currently deepening my understanding of advanced security concepts, threat mitigation strategies, and the ethical considerations vital to this dynamic field.
Throughout my studies, I have sought to enhance my knowledge and skills through practical experience and certifications. Recently, I earned my Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Splunk Core certifications. These accomplishments not only validate my expertise but also equip me with the practical tools necessary to identify, analyze, and counteract cybersecurity threats. The Security+ certification has fortified my grasp of fundamental security principles, while the CEH certification has provided me with a hacker's perspective, allowing me to better anticipate and defend against malicious activities. The Splunk Core certification has further honed my ability to effectively utilize data analytics for security monitoring and incident response.
My career aspirations are anchored in my desire to become a leading cybersecurity expert, specializing in threat intelligence and ethical hacking. Secondly, I would like to contribute more substantially to community programs that promote cybersecurity awareness and education, particularly in underserved areas. Lastly, the financial relief would enable me to start saving for future professional certifications and potential entrepreneurial ventures, where I hope to develop innovative cybersecurity solutions tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
In conclusion, my journey in cybersecurity is driven by a passion for safeguarding the digital realm and empowering others through education and innovation. With the financial support provided by this scholarship, I am confident that I can make a more significant impact both within my professional career and my community.
Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat Scholarship
As a student at Hogwarts, I have already been chosen into the house of Ravenclaw. My passion for cybersecurity and relentless pursuit of knowledge aligns seamlessly with the house's values of intelligence and wisdom.
This year, after being laid off, I decided to pivot careers and begin my journey into the world of cybersecurity, driven by my curiosity to explore its mysteries and complexities. In conclusion, my unwavering thirst for knowledge, analytical acumen, dedication to excellence, and passion for creative problem-solving make me an ideal fit for Ravenclaw. This journey has come with several ups and downs, however, I will never allow stress and my time of waiting to stop me from pursuing my goals. I am 35 and was laid off earlier this year and although that has been challenging I will continue learning and upskilling while preparing to graduate with my master's degree and get my Security+ certification. Knowing that it takes one day at a time and if this is my season of waiting and preparing I will continue to do that patiently with my family and friends' encouragement. Pursuing a career in cybersecurity, studying for the CompTIA Security+ exam, and managing my responsibilities at work, I am determined to soar to great heights, just like the emblem of Ravenclaw that stands at the top of the castle towers.
Disney Super Fan Scholarship
As a 35-year-old Black woman currently pursuing my graduate degree, Disney holds a special place in my heart, and my favorite thing about the company is its ability to create magical experiences that transcend time and generations. Growing up, I was captivated by the enchanting worlds, memorable characters, and timeless stories that Disney brought to life. However, what truly sets Disney apart for me is its ability to instill a sense of wonder, hope, and imagination.
One aspect of Disney that resonates deeply with me is its commitment to storytelling. Each Disney film, whether animated or live-action, carries a powerful message that goes beyond mere entertainment. These stories often teach valuable life lessons, promote important values, and inspire viewers to dream big and believe in themselves. As a woman who has faced various challenges and hurdles on my journey, I find solace and inspiration in the stories of strong and resilient female characters like Mulan, who defied societal expectations, and Ariel, who dared to chase her dreams.
Moreover, as a Black woman, representation matters to me. Disney has made strides in featuring diverse characters and narratives that reflect the world we live in. Witnessing characters like Princess Tiana in "The Princess and the Frog" and the live-action remakes of Aladdin, Mulan, and The Little Mermaid being portrayed by talented actors who look like me is empowering. It reinforces the idea that my dreams and aspirations are valid, and that I, too, can be the hero of my own story.
The recent live-action remakes of Aladdin, Mulan, and The Little Mermaid have been particularly meaningful to me. Seeing these iconic characters brought to life on the big screen with diverse casts and rich cultural representation has been a source of pride and joy. It is a testament to the progress we are making towards a more inclusive and equitable media landscape.
As a graduate student, my love for these live-action remakes goes beyond mere entertainment. It serves as a reminder of the importance of representation and the power of storytelling. It fuels my passion for the work I am doing in my field, as I strive to make a positive impact on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the business world.
Disney represents more than just a childhood nostalgia for me. It symbolizes resilience, imagination, and the pursuit of dreams. It reminds me that regardless of age or background, we all possess the power to create magic in our lives and make a difference in the world. Disney has taught me the value of staying true to myself, embracing my unique qualities, and being unafraid to dream big.
In conclusion, Disney's ability to create magical experiences through storytelling and representation resonates deeply with me as a black woman. It reminds me of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and inspires me to use my education and platform to make a positive impact. Disney continues to be a beacon of hope, joy, and empowerment, and I am grateful for the lasting impact it has had on my life and the lives of countless others.

Hill believes that we are the creators of our own destiny, and that we have the power to choose our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. He encourages readers to take control of their lives and to believe in themselves, even when others doubt them.
I believe that "Think and Grow Rich" is a book that everyone can benefit from, regardless of their background or circumstances. Whether you are a student, a professional, or an entrepreneur, the principles outlined in this book can help you achieve your goals and live a fulfilling life.

College is an exciting and transformative experience, filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and personal development. What excites me the most about college is the prospect of being surrounded by a diverse community of individuals with different perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. This diversity of thought and experience is truly inspiring and will no doubt broaden my understanding of the world.
In addition to this, I am looking forward to the academic challenges that college presents. I have always been passionate about learning and I see college as an opportunity to further deepen my knowledge and understanding of the subjects that interest me the most. I am eager to be pushed outside of my comfort zone, both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities, and to explore new and innovative ways of thinking.
However, I also understand that college can be a stressful and overwhelming environment, with a heavy workload, demanding schedule, and new responsibilities to manage. It's important for me to prioritize my mental and physical health in order to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul amidst the challenges I will face in school.
One of the ways I maintain a healthy mind is by incorporating mindfulness and relaxation practices into my daily routine. This could include things like meditation, yoga, deep breathing, or simply taking a few moments to reflect on my thoughts and emotions. I find that these practices help me to stay calm and centered, even in the midst of a busy schedule.
I also prioritize my physical health by making time for exercise and physical activity each day. This could be as simple as a morning jog, a yoga class, or a game of pick-up basketball with friends. Exercise not only helps me to stay in shape but also provides an outlet for stress and anxiety and boosts my mood and energy levels.
In addition to these self-care practices, I also make an effort to stay connected with friends, family, and loved ones. Having a strong support system is crucial, especially during times of stress and uncertainty. I find that reaching out to others for support, whether it be through phone calls, text messages, or in-person visits, helps me to feel grounded and connected, even when I'm feeling overwhelmed.
Finally, I maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul by setting achievable goals for myself and celebrating my accomplishments along the way. Whether it's setting a goal to achieve a certain grade in a class, taking on a leadership role in a student organization, or simply maintaining a positive attitude, having a clear focus and purpose helps me to stay motivated and inspired, even in the face of challenges.
In conclusion, college is an exciting and transformative experience, and I am eager to embrace all of the opportunities it presents. However, it's important for me to prioritize my mental and physical health in order to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul amidst the challenges I will face. By incorporating mindfulness practices, exercise, strong relationships, and achievable goals into my daily routine, I am confident that I will be able to successfully navigate the challenges of college and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more fulfilled.

Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
When I was 21, my 19-year-old cousin was killed in a parking lot in Cincinnati, OH. Three men pulled up next to him looking for his friend and because they couldn’t find his friend, they killed my little cousin instead. “Guilty by association” was their reason for killing him. They shot him with a bullet that sprayed inside of him. So when he was shot the bullets went everywhere. Onlookers at the restaurant next door said he took three steps and fell to the ground. Just the thought of that broke my soul. I could not stop crying for days and all I could think about, was “I wish he didn’t have to die alone. Still to this day my family and I remember him. I was so angry and truly heartbroken, I just felt like life was pointless. Years later I really worked on my personal development, focusing on my family, mental health, and what I wanted to achieve. I graduate with my Bachelor's Degree and started working in corporate America. As the tech industry began to boom, I thought about my cousin and what he would be doing, how happy he always was, and how funny he was. I told myself I am not working an unfulfilling job any longer. I started learning about recruiting via YouTube, landed my dream job as a recruiter for a tech startup, and decided to go back to college last year to get my master’s degree in business analytics. My cousin taught me that life is short, and I need to continuously strive for what I want out of life. Never letting any limiting or negative beliefs deter me from progressing. I am now a few short months away from graduating with a master’s and moving on to another successful career opportunity.
Growing with Gabby Scholarship
This year has been very eye-opening. I started a new role as a tech recruiter and finally received a salary of over $80,000. I am so excited that I have this opportunity and want to continue to grow in my career and ability to help someone else achieve this milestone. I had to learn how to budget and that is an ongoing learning process. I always knew how to strive for more, however, no one taught me how to manage my money correctly. Fortunately, I started working on my personal development several years ago and will continue to build my financial literacy and work on managing my salary, investing, and saving my money.
This is why I have started the journey of gaining my master’s degree. As I started paying down my student loan and personal debt and, in that process, I thought about what was next for me in my career over the next five years. I see myself continuing in the tech industry, investing in rental properties, and building wealth for my future generations. For me, this requires a master’s degree and additional certifications to get the necessary knowledge for me to advance my career, lifestyle, and business goals.
This year I also had the opportunity to travel and spend time with family members I have never met before at my second ever family reunion in my lifetime. It was so incredible to meet my family from all over the country. I had family members that came in from Florida, Seattle, and New York, and cousins I never met that lived in Ohio most of my life before I moved to Florida. I met cousins that were all around the same age as my siblings and me whom I had never met. Our parents certainly dropped the ball on that, but I am so happy that we have all these avenues afforded to us to stay connected with my newfound family.
This year came with a lot of growth and accountability. I hold myself accountable for my personal debt and the discipline I am learning to get out of that debt while saving money. I am also working on my mental health and continuing my personal development. Seeking therapy has helped me to build self-esteem, recognize past trauma, and not be so hard on myself. Therapy also helped to acknowledge my coping habits and why I act on impulse making purchases and traveling. I had so many bad memories as a child with my family I am constantly trying to create new ones that outweigh the past trauma that I experienced. I have learned to say ‘No’ and mean it, without apologizing for my ‘No’. I am grateful for my growth this year and will continue to strive for more, work on my boundaries and continue to develop in my personal, financial, and mental journeys.

For over 25 years my mother has been an alcoholic. Watching her battle with substance abuse over the years has been draining. Many times, people would ask my siblings and I do you all ever talk to your mom? Why is she still drinking and driving? How does she continue to jeopardize the lives of others? She hasn’t sought help yet. Why, why, why? This felt like a broken record for many years in my young adult life and it was frustrating. My siblings and I had many conversations with my mother sober or not and we realized every time that my mother was terrified of seeking help. She constantly goes over past situations in her head and has many triggers, but she refuses to get help. Once I realized that there was nothing my siblings or I could do to help her, I consistently created opportunities for my mother to learn about ways to help herself. Initially, I would insert her email into substance abuse websites, I would send her free monthly trial subscriptions to virtual therapy providers, and so on. She would often acknowledge receipt of these emails, but again no action is ever taken.
After many years of learning about my mother’s trauma, I decided to consistently create safe spaces for women to discuss their trauma. While in college I often attended different meetup groups and constantly those safe spaces turned into impromptu therapy sessions. I realized that the safer women felt within a room, rather they shared their personal stories or listened to others were more likely to consistently start the healing process. This has given me the idea to create a non-profit specifically designed to help women understand their trauma no matter what age and develop healthy responses to their triggers. Breaking family and environmental strongholds is not easy, and I want to create safe spaces where women can get help no matter what that entails. Having a place to live, receiving therapy, life skills, job skills, and job placement opportunities. Safe spaces have allowed me to work on my personal trauma from my childhood. I have a personal therapist who helped me identify that I have ADHD and finally received the proper care to manage my lack of focus. I have personally discovered that for many years I lived in survival mode and just recently began to just live. Practicing stillness and learning to love myself. It may seem cliche but my practice of gratitude has helped me to recognize the struggles of others and creating a safe space for women, men and children will be my ultimate goal in breaking the chains of substance abuse.
Bold Goals Scholarship
Becoming a self-published author in 2016, earning passive income, helped me to briefly understand the buying potential of consumers. However, going back to school has given me innovative strategies and techniques that have helped me with today’s consumers. Understanding risk, business strategy, and expanding my perception have set a foundation for me to develop a business that will withstand any change in the market. Once I obtain my second business degree, I plan on establishing my s-corporation and acquiring a 25-unit rental property in South Florida. Having a combination of residential and commercial units; this property will serve as my retirement plan. Paying myself a salary from the rental income provided by the residents. As a licensed realtor in Florida, I will continue working with buyers and sellers across the United States helping individuals and families find their dream homes. After successfully running a profitable real estate investing business for a minimum of six months, I plan on opening a small event venue and creating a safe space for the black community. While ambitious I do plan on leveraging my network of accomplished entrepreneurs, accountants, investors, and business professionals to help establish my brand and maintain a competitive advantage in multiple industries. In the meantime, success in college will help me to learn how to manage my time and leverage my resources to better serve my clients and myself. Success to me is the ability to create, learn and build wealth by having a definite desire to improve my life and the lives of the people around me mentally, physically, financially, and emotionally. Choosing a business-related degree was my first right move and I hope that I continue to help myself become financially independent.

My best skill is organization. I use to think that I didn't have any talents, yet quickly realized that my ability to plan out my day was a huge talent. I have learned to time block, wake up earlier to complete tasks, and manifest the life of my dreams. I have encountered so many people that ask how am I getting so much completed in my day, and every time I tell them "It's because I have a plan." I use my planner, I write down what I want to work on in a given day, and I stick to my morning routine. Discipline and consistency are easier said than done, however anytime that I get stuck or feel that I am not where I should be, I go right back to my morning routine and begin again. I follow the Miracle Morning - Life SAVERS and I added my personal spin to it. When I attended North Carolina Central University, 120 hours of community service was mandatory to graduate. I gave blood, was tested for sickle cell, and participated in several on-campus volunteer assignments. The most meaningful assignment was when I was asked to participate in the Durham Rescue Missions volunteer opportunity. Walking into the student union, I went directly to the crowd gathered around the Durham Rescue Mission booth. I saw a familiar face and asked my friend Audrey what was going on. She asked me if I wanted to be homeless for the next 24 hours to receive 24 hours of community service credit for graduation. I was a little stunned by the question and wanted to hear more about this opportunity. A representative from the mission came out to the seated area and explained to everyone that was waiting, what the volunteer opportunity consisted of. She stated, there will be three school buses to pick up all the students who wanted to participate this upcoming Saturday. The buses will arrive in front of the student union at 9 am and we will take a tour of some of the most poverty-stricken areas in Durham and speak to several former homeless people. We will arrive at the Durham Rescue mission for a brown bag lunch consisting of fruit, a PB&J sandwich, water, and a bag of chips. After that, we will be given a cardboard box and will pick a spot in their gated garden to sleep for the night. I confirmed that we will literally be sleeping outside and where we would use the bathroom. She said yes you will be outside until 9 am the next morning and there will be porta-potties and hand sanitizer available to clean our hands.
Excited for the opportunity to see how much homeless shelters and rescue missions help the community, I signed the waiver and submitted it for my community service hours. Saturday arrived and I walked onto the bus with my friend, and we got an ear full. There was a former blood gang member on our bus who was a former patron of the homeless shelter, turned motivational speaker, and employee. The rescue mission completed a headcount, and the gentleman went right into providing his testimony. It was so powerful, and I appreciated his honesty. When we arrived at the mission, everything was as planned, I ate my bagged lunch, picked out my cardboard box, and picked a spot next to my friend to sleep. During the night we received one more bagged lunch, and a tarp to cover ourselves. About three hours into the night someone yelled at the sight of a large raccoon in the garden. Several of the students and I closed our box gathered around the fire and stayed up the rest of the night telling stories, laughing, and waiting until 9 am. We all made it and we truly felt grateful for all that we had and appreciated that unforgettable experience.

As a black woman, I constantly feel like I have to catch up. Catch up on my financial literacy, catch up creating generational wealth, and breaking family strongholds. I feel like I’m behind and I need to constantly feel my time with productive activities. I am exhausted from constantly striving for better, that I don’t realize that I’m where I’m supposed to be. I’m in the right home, the right business, reading the right books, and learning what I am supposed to learn in this season. I never know if I’m doing the right thing or if I’m not doing enough. Being a black woman I constantly feel like I am on compassion overload and I care about so many things that happen in the world. Being a black woman is a 24/7 lifestyle and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am constantly learning how to be a leader, strive for greatness, and live a limitless life. My life experiences have equipped me with the drive, compassion, and urgency to create the life of my dreams. My experiences have taught me how to be consistent. I have created a workbook entitled “Ready for Overflow” to help women like me who feel discouraged and overwhelmed at times, keep moving forward. Setbacks are stepping stones and I created multplie books to help black women like me to stay encouraged. The other book that I wrote is called Unwavered Faith which helps women navigate the roughest hood in the world. Adult hood! I talk about my trials and tribulations and encourage black women to continue to move forward no matter how bad they think they messed up. Becoming the woman I am today has had its challenges, however, the opportunity to collaborate with other black women will always be a priority in my life.

I’m passionate about building my real estate business because I am the only one in my family who has a definite desire to create generational wealth. No excuses, only adjustments have been my mantra for the past few years and I have made considerable steps to becoming more financially literate and persevere over any obstacle. I am grateful for the opportunities that have been afforded to me for my hard work and persistence; however, I learned those skills to grow my own business, not make someone else wealthy. Most people want more for themselves but are not willing to research, consistently learn, upgrade their mindset and take control of their life. I have seen the phenomenal, the bad, and the ugly of how people, corporations, contractors, brokerages, and government agencies build their businesses and now I am in the process of building mine. Ten years from now, I will be a successful, profitable, righteous, and humble entrepreneur. Achieving my goal of becoming my own boss, I decided to pursue a degree in business. Following my dreams of becoming a college graduate, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University in 2012. Moving to Florida a few years later I followed my passion for real estate and real estate investing. Earning my real estate license in 2015 I began mastering my craft. Facing several obstacles from marketing my business, personal finances, adjusting to a new city, and building a client list. Remaining motivated I developed other passive income sources. Self-publishing my first book Fantasy: Short Stories to Excite in 2016 and Unwavered Faith this past January on Amazon; inspired me to pursue more of my passions. Growing a successful business and inspiring others to love what they do every day and enjoy waking up is my motivation. I continue to follow my passion for real estate, writing, investing, and beyond.
Shifting gears, a little bit, I decided to go back to school at Johnson & Wales University to earn a second bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. I took time to locate the right university that would teach me how to build a successful business and manage people successfully. Becoming a self-published author and earning passive income, helped me to briefly understand the buying potential of consumers in 2016. However, going back to school has given me innovative strategies and techniques that have helped me with today’s consumers. Understanding risk, business strategy, and expanding my perception have set a foundation for me to develop a business that will withstand any changing market. The internet will help me to leverage the skills I learned in college and provide a great resource to apply to grants, business loans and network with other successful business owners. Once I obtain my second degree, I plan on establishing my LLC and acquiring a 25-unit rental property in South Florida. Having a combination of residential and commercial units, this property will serve as my retirement plan. While ambitious I do plan on utilizing a team of realtors, marketing specialists,s and investors to help me establish my brand and stay abreast of the ever-changing real estate markets; while developing a separate career as a writer and entrepreneur. My main priority is learning to manage my time and leverage my resources to better serve my community consistently.
Sander Jennings Spread the Love Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have encountered more bad circumstances than I have time to describe in one essay. The most recent was the phone call I received last February when my sister called and told me that my mother had been in a car accident. She was drinking and driving and flipped my grandmother's Impala over a median and into a police officer employee parking lot. Go figure! As you can imagine my grandmother’s car was totaled and my mother was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and my mother ended up getting no jail time in addition to her community service and mandatory substance abuse meetings. Gratefully that was about a six on the scale of bad circumstances that I’ve had to overcome throughout my life. Due to the number of unfortunate events in my life, I have learned that nothing is permanent. Every situation has an end date and it’s up to me to either live in the disappointment or rise above it.
During my toxic childhood self-love was nonexistent. Dealing with one bad circumstance after another will do that to you. As I got older, I realized something was missing and I started to seek God. Still feeling lost I began working on improving my mental health. Self-love began to manifest through a combination of building my own personal relationship with God and working on my personal development consistently. Consistency was key and the start of my success. My dreams got bigger, and my achievements more frequent. I obtained my first degree, real estate license, and relocated to a warmer climate. Understanding that I had to first needed to love myself before I could benefit the lives of the people around me. This newfound love of self, helped me to not be complacent and take risks. I didn’t let the good in my life stop me from being great. I am a work in progress, but I trust that God is in control and I am worthy of love in every aspect of my life.

My biggest inspiration was my ambition to achieve financial freedom. I have watched my grandparents at 86 years old still paying on their home on a fixed income. I’ve watched my mother and father make poor life decisions and not properly preparing for retirement and their passing. I have made the conscious decision to educate myself as much as possible about passive income, managing money effectively, the importance of life insurance, building for retirement and multiple income streams. I choose to obtain my first bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management to improve my knowledge of how to efficiently operate a business. My second bachelor’s degree that I am currently working to obtain is in human resource management. Realizing that I needed to learn more about employment laws, HIPPA rules, staffing, benefits, employment compensation and more. Human Resource Management allowed me to gain a more inclusive learning experience on how to manage a business, outsource to vendors while leveraging their expertise to save money, market to consumers and create a profitable business.

After successfully running a profitable real estate investing business for a minimum of six months, I plan on opening a small event venue and publishing my third book. While ambitious I do plan on leveraging my network of accomplished entrepreneurs, accountants, investors, and business professionals to help establish my brand and maintain a competitive advantage in multiple industries. In the meantime, I will continue to learn how to manage my time and leverage my resources to better serve my clients and myself. The possibilities to create, learn and build wealth are endless and I am who my bloodline has been waiting for.

Unfortunately, I have gone through so many seemingly defeating circumstances, that I am truly grateful to be who I am today. At the age of eight, I learned that my father was a child molester. He was molesting my two best friends during our bi-weekly slumber parties for months. At that moment my siblings and I were defeated, looking back I am grateful to my mother who never lied to us about my father’s trial, rape accusations, abuse, or sentencing. She told us our father would be going to jail and that he was found guilty and sentenced to only six years in prison. As a child, I thought six years was such a long time, as I grew up and understood what child molestation was, I realized that his sentence was not long enough. My friends were left with nightmares and their parents who were also my dad’s mistresses were left with nightmares of their own.
My siblings and I have had one trial after another. Most people cannot believe that we are not laid out in a ditch somewhere or strung out on drugs. They look in awe, surprised that we have degrees, families, and multiple achievements. Most people would see us every day and have no idea that we haven’t eaten in days or my mother has not been home in a week or any struggle was happening. We were raised to persevere, and we all knew that getting an education and staying on the right path was our way out of our circumstances.
When my dad went to jail my mom became addicted to alcohol. Her addiction was more important than taking control of her life, managing her finances, going to counseling, and maintaining her household. We would go two weeks out the month eating nothing but green beans almost every month for two years until we moved in with my grandparents in 2001. My mom’s addiction early on controlled her every move. My mother has been addicted to alcohol for 20+ years. She has never sought help and two years ago she was so drunk she flipped my grandmother’s car over a median, into a police officer employee parking lot. My sister was called to the scene and she said debris was everywhere and my mother was rushed to the hospital. She suffered minor injuries and did not kill anyone, however, she was fined and sentenced to a 3-day recovery center. She stopped drinking for a while and eventually began drinking again a year later off and on.
I pray for my mom and hope that she will go to rehab and finally break her addiction. Over the years my siblings and I have tried to help her, but we realized that she needs to help herself and pray she will not hurt anyone if she decides to drink and drive again. Meanwhile, my parents got a divorce while my father was still in jail, so when he got out of jail, he continued to live his life like he never molested anyone. In his mind, that time in his life never happened and he lives his life as a Vietnam Marine veteran peacefully telling war stories and enjoying his old age. My parents have taught me how to forgive and believe people for who they are. I respect my parents and am grateful for the life lessons and the women I am becoming, despite my childhood adversity.
With this in mind, I have become a lifetime learner and strive to be consistent. Consistent in growing my financial literacy, maintaining my mental health, seeking God first, traveling, and experiencing life. I cannot control how I grew up or who my parents are, but I can control how I will live my life. In the last 32 years, I have overcome financial struggles, parental abandonment, homelessness, hunger, and many other pitfalls that have motivated me to be the change my life needs to see. Choosing to repeatedly find another way to reach my goals and look past my circumstances fuels my commitment to my education and business career. Over time, I will continue to research, invest, leverage my resources and face my problems head-on. As I become more receptive to correction, I will remain humble and focused on my achievements, not my past.

Incarceration Impact Scholarship
My father went to jail when I was 7 years old for child molestation of two of my childhood friends. He went to jail for seven years and in his absence, I worked on forgiveness and stability. I visited my dad twice while he was incarcerated and early on in his sentence, he had no remorse for his crimes, however, he hated being in jail. He served his time and was released from prison after 7 years, going back to jail for thirty days for a probation violation a year after his release. In that time, I learned a lot about forgiveness and that I was going to be the only one that could save me. I made sure that I went to school every day and learned how to manage my money and time wisely. Later in life when I was in high school my mother went to jail for a short time for a DUI. She had been battling depression and alcohol addiction since my dad went to prison several years before. My mother never sought counseling and let her addiction get the best of her daily. Living with the fact that I had two parents who have been incarcerated made me fight even harder to not be a stereotype, graduate from college and become a successful business owner. So far, I am on the right track and will continue to earn my degree, start my business, and leave a legacy for my future children that do not involve incarceration and sadness.

African-American Entrepreneurs Grant — Female Award
I started reading a lot of books and listening to a lot of financial podcast. My favorite podcast that I listened to most often was the Earn Your Leisure podcast. And yes, its two black men, hosting multiple guests in different industries dropping Gems! I discovered so many successful black people starting from nothing with enough discipline to change their circumstances. I also started thinking about who would benefit the most from this book. That thought process led me down a worm whole of self-reflection and anger. The anger stemmed from me doing so much research and execution of ideas and realizing why I am still broke. Lack of consistency on my part. However, every time I listened to the EYL or Brilliant Idiots podcast I found myself writing down so many ideas that would be great to put all in one place. This led me back to the drawing board. After several personal brainstorming sessions, I thought of an idea to just list the steps it takes to start a business without all the time-consuming back stories.
With over five years ‘experience as a licensed realtor and consultant in the financial service industry, I’ve acquired an array of skills that has helped me invest in myself successfully. Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to help my peers research, plan and invest in equity-based investments, stocks, life insurance and start new businesses. I would often suggest books I have read and provided a guide or detailed email listing of how I found the information that led me to invest in my current investments. A lot of my peers would ask me to show them the specific chapter I learned the information from rather than reading the book in its entirety. Anyone that I found not willing to put in the work and learn how to achieve their goal, quickly left my sphere of influence. Eventually, I noticed the individuals who asked me to write down the steps and provide the websites for where they could find the information, acted, and started investing right away. A few of my friends and former colleagues whom I helped; paid the knowledge forward to other people in their immediate circle and watched them pursue investing on their own once they had the direct information. Then the idea to create this book was born. However, I wanted to leave out the thought-provoking storylines and get right to the point. This guide was created to give you the necessary steps and practical resources to get started in real estate, Investing, podcasting, self-publishing and several other entrepreneurial opportunities along the way. The book I created was for everyone who has been in the same position. Having a million ideas and wanting to act on all of them that I never master one of them. This book will help you decide on one business opportunity you want to pursue and master it. The information in this book can either be a beacon of light or a deterrent, its up to my readers to utilize the many resources I provided and be the chnage they want to see.

Self-publishing my first book Fantasy: Short Stories to Excite in 2016 and Unwavered Faith this past January through Amazon’s KDP; inspired me to continuously pursue multiple streams of income.
Going back to school in 2017 was a humbling experience. I am now in my final term at Johnson & Wales University earning a second bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. Becoming a self-published author in 2016 and earning passive income, helped me to briefly understand the buying potential of consumers. However, going back to school has helped me understand risk, business strategy and expanding my perception for todays consumers. Once I obtain my second business degree, I plan on establishing my s-corporation and acquiring a 100-unit rental property in south Florida. Having a combination of residential and commercial units; this property will serve as my retirement plan. Paying myself a salary from the rental income provided from the residents. As a licensed realtor in Florida, I will continue working with buyers and sellers across the united states helping individuals and families find their dream homes. After successfully running a profitable real estate investing business for a minimum of six months, I plan on opening a small event venue and publishing my third book. While ambitious I do plan on leveraging my network of accomplished entrepreneurs, accountants, investors and business professionals to help establish my brand and maintain a competitive advantage in multiple industries. In the meantime, I will continue to learn how to manage my time and leverage my resources to better serve my clients and myself. Thirty years from now I will have multiple profitable businesses, continuing to create a legacy for my future children and passing down the family business. Choosing a business-related degree was my first right move and I hope that I continue to help myself become financially independent.
