My name is Jordynn Kough, and I am a senior at Scott Community High School. Scott City is a small town in Kansas but I love my town. I have dreamed of becoming a physician assistant since my freshman year. Next year I plan on attending Kansas State University. I am majoring in Kinesiology and a pre-physician assistant program. I love learning about how the body moves and functions so the kinesiology major is perfect for me. I have big career goals. I want to become a Physician Assistant and come back to Scott City.
In Scott City, there is not a gynecologist. I want to specialize in gynecology so that I can help women. Most women in Scott City have to drive two hours away to the closest gynecologist. Even in rural areas, women should have access to a gynecologist. In Scott City, there are serval nearby towns that would also benefit from having a physician assistant who specializes in gynecology. Many women struggle with things like PCOS, IBS, hypothyroidism, and hormonal issues. Taking care of people and helping people feel better is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
I also recently started working as a CNA, to make sure I wanted to be in the medical field. Working as a CNA made me want to become a physician assistant even more. The physician assistant career is beneficial and vital to today’s healthcare services. The impact of this profession outweighs any of the negative aspects. Without physician assistants, hospitals and other medical businesses would suffer because of the shortage of doctors in rural areas. As a CNA I work with many healthcare professionals who treat patients with little respect. In addition, I work with healthcare professionals who are amazing to the patients and truly care. I want people to feel better physically and mentally. I do not want to just treat the symptoms, therefore I want to find the real cause of the problems. I want to make a real difference not just to cover up the problems. The physician assistant career is perfect for me. I will be able to make a real difference in the healthcare system and impact women's health. My future career will help rural areas and impact women. I am a very self-motivated 17-year-old, and I know that I will accomplish my goals if I stay focused and positive.
