When I was in 6th grade I was scared. Why you make ask solely because of the fact I couldn't do multiplication. Ever since I was young I have needed extra help in any of my math classes. Multiplication in 6th grade was particularly hard do to the fact we had speed multiplication day every Monday and Thursday. My teacher was named Mrs. Newhouse. She had tons of achievements and had a bearded dragon. She was my very own Ms. Frizzle though the only thing they had in common was the fact they both had bearded dragons. She saw how I was struggling and took the time out of her lunch to assist me and 3 other kids with any questions we had. I felt safe and acknowledged by her allowing this time. I was the type of kid who would sit at the same question till time would run out on my test because I was taught if you sit in the answer long enough it will find you which is a true statement for some as well as sometimes. She taught me if you sit in the question long enough keep moving and go back some times the answer to a question can be in another question. I think its a interesting quote to have considering it's a math equation but she helped me by also setting up a group with all of us to study multiplication even when it wasn't our lesson at the time because she wanted to make sure we knew and we were included. She printed color sheets, let us use the chalk board or even hands-on creative ways like drawing on the desk then wiping it down with shaving cream. It was so much fun such a small thing that gave me joy. She was funny in a way of a SNL comedian for 6th graders. Strictly PG though. Her husband visited and he was just as cool as her. It's nice knowing cool people find other cool people to enjoy life together. She retired about 2 years ago. Though i don't think she will remember me. I will always remember her for how she believed in me in my smartness, in my ability even though it was difficult. I was being difficult sometimes when I got things slower than others but she reminded me everyone has their own pace even her. She helped me academically but also with life as well. I inspire to be as loved by her students as she was as I strive to be a teacher.

I'm Jordan. I like long walks on the beach and tacos. I am joking. I love falling full tilt into a book and running in circles during track season. I have always strived to be what others tell me to be which is probably why I am so indecisive. As long as I have been alive in this world I have enjoy helping others and have always wanted to be a mother. Being a teacher includes a good sum of the components of being a mother which is probably why my mom was one at some point in her life. I am the kind of person who believes it's such a big world and we are small people just living on it trying to make ends meet as one does. I grew up with a single mom and my grandma. My mother tried to make sure I had everything she can possibly offer us in life within reason and same goes for my grandma.
I moved a total of 5 different times in a short period of time when I was younger which taught me how to make friends easily but not get attached. I remember specifically that each teacher I had during those times helped me adjust in my own way. I was always the shy kid. I was the kid that teacher's sat their bad kids next to; I have always been friends with my teachers not as a teacher's pet but simply because they made me feel the most comfortable out of everyone else in the room. I want to be or provide that same comfort to those other kids shy or extroverted. I also want to make sure that kids feel comfortable with other kids and just simply being a kid in a safe educational environment. I want my positive impact to be helping others become who they are or want to be. A bad teacher can make just as much impact then a great teacher can. I still have bad memories from a bad experience with one of my teachers years ago.
I never truly considered being a teacher until this year. I was told at a young age to be a teacher is to be A+ student. I was told from others that teachers never get paid enough and that children are horrible. I was heavily discouraged to the point I never even considered the fact maybe what matters is how the kids feel and how I feel about the impact I would have in their lives. Now I am feeling more confident but also scared do to not knowing what the future holds for education. I do know wherever I am as long as a child goes home talking about how cool her teacher is and about what she learned then maybe everything will turn out okay.

In today’s rapidly changing world, the question of how one can contribute positively to society is more important than ever. As I reflect on my role both now and in the future, I see myself striving to be a force of good by embodying values of empathy, innovation, and responsibility. The parameters of current social norms, including an emphasis on inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and social justice, significantly shape and guide this vision, providing a framework for how I can make a meaningful impact.
The growing focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has been a defining factor in shaping my understanding of positive societal impact. As the world becomes more interconnected, it’s clear that our differences—whether cultural, racial, or socio-economic—should be celebrated and respected. I strive to ensure that my actions contribute to this inclusive vision, whether it’s by supporting policies that promote diversity or ensuring that my personal relationships and workplace environments are welcoming to all.
The current parameters of social norms shape my thinking by providing both a set of expectations and a moral compass that guides my actions. Today’s emphasis on inclusivity, equity, and environmental responsibility is reshaping how individuals are expected to interact with one another and the planet. These norms influence my belief that I have a duty to contribute to the common good—not just for personal gain but to ensure that future generations inherit a world that is more just and sustainable.
In conclusion, I perceive myself as a positive force in society both now and in the future because of my commitment to empathy, ethical responsibility, and active engagement with the world around me. As social norms evolve, my thinking and actions are shaped by a growing understanding of the need for inclusivity, sustainability, and justice. These values not only guide my behavior today but also provide a roadmap for how I can contribute to a better tomorrow. As the world continues to face unprecedented challenges, I believe it is individuals like myself—driven by a sense of purpose and responsibility—who will play a pivotal role in creating a more compassionate and equitable society. I want to have a place in the world where others can say that girl over there has the light of Jesus in her. I want to live in a place where I don’t feel harshly judged for being black or being lighter skinned then some or dark skinned then some. I want to live in a better world but to live in a better world we need to be better people.
