Bio

I am a senior student-athlete. It almost feels weird to add “athlete” to the end. Everyone who knows me knows academics and my grades come before everything. I have been raised in a family where education is of the utmost importance. I remember being about four years old and my mom telling me it was important to always do my best in school. She told me she would buy me a brand new car if I received a full scholarship. Enough said! I’ve always been an all A student. I have had perfect attendance since Pre-K. I participate in school clubs that allow me to volunteer my time and help others in need. Serving others is important to me. This year, I was selected to be on the State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. We were tasked with completing a community service project. I chose to do a COVID-friendly drive of just family and close family friends to collect donations for hygiene kits. My goal was to make 150 kits. However, I was able to make 180 hygiene kits AND 50 winter kits (hat, gloves, socks, Kleenex, and hand sanitizer) for students and families in my school district. It is hard for me to talk about what I do because I feel that is bragging. I am quiet but confident. I like for my actions to speak louder than words. I would like to be a child psychologist when I grow up. My interest in this career is due to some of struggles. Although, I was placed in the gifted program in first grade, I was also diagnosed with ADHD. I find the mind to be interesting. I’d love to help other children who deal with this and help them maximize learning and life.

      Eleven Scholarship
I am honored to apply for this scholarship. The last few months of my life have definitely given new meaning to overcoming challenges. Overcoming challenges and hardships is part of life. We all face adversity from time to time, but some of us are able to flourish when things get difficult. When it happens, we have to be prepared to deal with it. By no means will it be easy. On October 18, 2022, I was involved in a horrific car accident on my way to school. A car, driven by a 30 year old lady, crossed the median and hit my car head-on. It took emergency medical workers about forty minutes to extricate me from my car. I was airlifted to the closest hospital with a trauma unit. I had a broken femur in my left leg and two major lacerations on my right leg. I also had a small fracture below my left eye. After seeing pictures of my car, one word came to my mind. Blessed! There are no other words to explain how or why I made it out of that car alive, but GOD! I am truly grateful that He saw fit to spare my life and give me another chance to do whatever it is that I am destined to do. I was released from the hospital a few days after my surgery. The pain I was experiencing in both of my legs was horrendous. I could not do anything for myself. My parents had to do everything for me, even helping me to go to the bathroom. They kept telling me and I had to reassure myself that all of this was temporary. When I would start to feel down on myself, I would tell myself, “this time next week, I will not remember today.” That was my pep talk to myself to keep pushing forward and things were going to get better each week. I immediately started going to physical therapy three times per week. I found myself getting better and stronger each time. After a couple of weeks, I graduated from the walker to crutches. After another week, I went from crutches to nothing. My recovery has been nothing short of amazing. Again, God’s blessings on my life were shining through. What I have not mentioned is that I was in the middle of football season…my senior year. I was disappointed that I would not be able to finish the rest of the season. I was also disappointed that this accident caused me to miss school. The other thing I have not mentioned is that I had perfect attendance each year since starting Pre-K. As an athlete, there were plenty of times when things did not go my way. Instead of getting down when I did not get the outcome I wanted, I worked harder. I knew the reason I was not getting the outcome I wanted was because I needed to get better, faster and stronger. So, I have told myself that I will overcome this. Adversity is a great teacher. This accident was a huge challenge, but I faced it eye-to-eye. I had to keep a positive attitude and not lose focus on what was most important. And, that was getting better each day. Every thought is a seed that grows into an attitude or mindset. Our attitudes guide our actions or behaviors, which then yield consequences or results. I will keep working until I am back to 100%. So, although this accident was a traumatic experience, I gained a whole new appreciation for life and being grateful.

As human beings, we all have a set of core values that guide our actions and shape our beliefs. These values are shaped by our upbringing, culture, and life experiences. My core values include integrity, compassion, and excellence. These values are important to me because they shape who I am as a person and guide my decision-making process. In this essay, I will discuss my core values, why they are important to me, and how I apply them to my civic engagement work, academic studies, and relationships. Integrity is one of my core values. I believe that integrity means being honest, ethical, and consistent in our actions and words. I value integrity because it helps me build trust with others and live a meaningful life. In my civic engagement work, I apply integrity by being transparent and honest with the people I work with. For example, when organizing a community event, I ensure that all stakeholders are aware of the objectives and potential risks of the event. In my academic studies, I apply integrity by citing my sources and avoiding plagiarism. In my relationships, I apply integrity by being honest and transparent with my loved ones and holding myself accountable for my actions. Compassion is another one of my core values. I believe that compassion means showing kindness, empathy, and concern for others. I value compassion because it helps me connect with others on a deeper level and understand their struggles. In my civic engagement work, I apply compassion by listening to the needs of the community and working towards solutions that address those needs. For example, when working with homeless individuals, I take the time to listen to their stories and offer support in any way that I can. In my academic studies, I apply compassion by taking the time to understand different perspectives and opinions. In my relationships, I apply compassion by showing empathy and support for my loved ones during difficult times. Excellence is the third core value that guides my life. I believe that excellence means striving for the highest level of quality in everything that we do. I value excellence because it helps me achieve my goals and live up to my full potential. In my civic engagement work, I apply excellence by setting high standards for myself and my team. For example, when organizing a fundraising event, I aim to exceed the fundraising goal and provide an exceptional experience for the attendees. In my academic studies, I apply excellence by setting high academic goals and striving to achieve them through hard work and dedication. In my relationships, I apply excellence by being fully present and attentive to my loved ones and striving to be the best version of myself. In conclusion, my core values of integrity, compassion, and excellence are an integral part of who I am as a person. These values guide my decision-making process and shape my interactions with others. In my civic engagement work, academic studies, and relationships, I apply these values by being honest, compassionate, and striving for excellence. By living by these values, I hope to make a positive difference in the world and inspire others to do the same.

As a member of my community, I have always been concerned about the problems that our society faces, including poverty, environmental degradation, and social inequality. These issues have driven me to take action and make a positive difference in my community. I am currently engaged in various activities that aim to make my community a better place, and I plan to continue doing so after college. One of the ways that I am currently making my community a better place is through volunteering. I am an active member of several non-profit organizations that work to address various social and environmental issues. For instance, I volunteer at a local food bank that provides free meals to the homeless and low-income families. I also volunteer at a community garden that promotes sustainable agriculture and educates people on the benefits of healthy eating. Through these activities, I have been able to help those in need and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment. In addition to volunteering, I am also involved in advocacy work. I believe that by raising awareness of social and environmental issues, we can promote positive change in our community. To this end, I have participated in various advocacy campaigns, such as climate strikes and protests against police brutality. Through these actions, I have been able to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and push for systemic change. After college, I plan to continue my work in volunteering and advocacy. Specifically, I want to focus on promoting environmental sustainability and social justice. I believe that these two issues are interconnected and require a comprehensive approach to address them effectively. Here are some of the ways that I plan to make a positive difference after college: Firstly, I plan to work for a non-profit organization that focuses on environmental sustainability. I want to help develop and implement policies that promote renewable energy, waste reduction, and sustainable agriculture. By doing so, I hope to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations. Secondly, I plan to continue my advocacy work on social justice issues. I want to use my platform to raise awareness of systemic inequalities and push for policies that promote equity and inclusion. Specifically, I want to focus on issues such as racial justice. Lastly, I plan to continue volunteering in my community. I believe that volunteering is a powerful tool for creating positive change at the grassroots level. I want to continue working with non-profit organizations that address social and environmental issues, and I hope to inspire others to get involved as well. In conclusion, I am committed to making a positive difference in my community and the world as a whole. Through my current activities and my plans for the future, I hope to contribute to a more sustainable, equitable, and just society. I believe that by working together, we can overcome the challenges that we face and build a better future for all.

Every choice we make in our daily lives has an impact on the environment. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear, the products we use, and the transportation we use to get around, our choices either contribute to or reduce environmental degradation. As individuals, it is our responsibility to be conscious of the environmental impact of our daily choices and strive to live sustainably each day. One of the most significant ways our daily choices impact the environment is through our food choices. The food we eat has a significant impact on the environment, from the way it is produced to the way it is transported and packaged. Choosing to eat locally produced, organic, and seasonal food reduces the carbon footprint associated with food production and transportation. Additionally, reducing our consumption of meat and dairy products can significantly reduce the environmental impact of our food choices. The products we use in our daily lives, from cleaning products to personal care products, also have a significant impact on the environment. Many of these products contain harmful chemicals that can pollute our waterways and harm wildlife. Choosing eco-friendly products made from natural and biodegradable ingredients can significantly reduce our environmental impact. Transportation is another area where our daily choices can have a significant impact on the environment. Choosing to walk, bike, or take public transportation instead of driving alone can significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Additionally, choosing to drive an electric or hybrid car or carpooling with others can significantly reduce our environmental impact. Finally, the way we dispose of our waste also has a significant impact on the environment. Choosing to recycle, compost, and reduce our waste can significantly reduce our environmental impact. Additionally, choosing to buy products made from recycled materials can help reduce the amount of waste in landfills. To strive to live sustainably each day, we need to make conscious choices about the products we use, the food we eat, the transportation we use, and the way we dispose of our waste. Some practical steps we can take include: - Eating locally-produced, organic, and seasonal food - Reducing our consumption of meat and dairy products - Using eco-friendly products made from natural and biodegradable ingredients - Walking, biking, or taking public transportation instead of driving alone - Driving an electric or hybrid car or carpooling with others - Recycling, composting, and reducing our waste - Buying products made from recycled materials In conclusion, our daily choices have a significant impact on the environment. By making conscious choices about the products we use, the food we eat, the transportation we use, and the way we dispose of our waste, we can strive to live sustainably each day and reduce our environmental impact.

Imagine being four years old and already having dreams of conquering the world. As a young kid, I imagined myself graduating at the top of my class, attending a prestigious college or university and going on to make a difference in the world. I did not quite have a plan to make these things happen, but I knew a great foundation was going to be getting a good education. My name is Jordan McCord. I am a 12th grade student-athlete. It sounds funny adding athlete because everyone who knows me knows my education comes first. I have always been an all A student. I have had perfect attendance since I started school in Pre-Kindergarten. I have won many awards throughout my school career. However, the most important awards (besides academic achievement) have been the awards that recognize my character and community service efforts. I was chosen (1 of 64 out of 1600 applicants) to be on the State School Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Being a part of this council has helped me to dream big not only for myself, but for other students across the state of Georgia. I have had the opportunity to discuss with state school officials the concerns of many students, especially during this pandemic and the closure of schools. Another opportunity I was afforded was to create a community service project that impacted my school. I chose to hold a COVID-friendly drive for donations to put together hygiene kits (washcloth, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and mouthwash) for the students in my school community. My goal was to be able to put together 100 hygiene kits. The drive was so successful, I was able to donate a total of 180 hygiene kits AND 48 winter kits (hat, gloves, socks, Kleenex, and hand sanitizer) for each of the six schools in my school district. Talk about dreaming BIG! My mind could not fathom anything else once I got started. My dream is to make a difference and this was just the beginning. Dreaming big is something I have been doing for a while now. For some, dreaming big entails doing something for yourself. For me, dreaming big entails being of service to others through my life experiences. I will continue to strive to be my best self so I can help others in need. I will continue to dream big by making great grades, having good attendance and participating in volunteer activities. My ultimate goal is to be a light for others however I can. I will continue to uplift others, encourage others, motivate others and inspire others by being a role model for not only my peers, but for the younger generation of children to come. I am thankful for parents who support me and encourage me to do better and be better. They have always given me guidance, but allowed me to make mistakes along the way. So, I take dreaming big seriously. Not just for myself, but for the future, as well.

      Nikhil Desai "Favorite Film" Scholarship
My all-time favorite movie is "The Blind Side." I watched a few clips of this movie just a few years ago in an English class. The clips made me want to watch the entire movie. My mom was able to purchase it for me through Amazon. "The Blind Side" is inspiring and heartwarming. It teaches humanity and celebrates diversity. It also teaches us not to take life for granted. People will go through situations...some good, some bad. But, those situations do not define you. You must keep pushing through adversity to overcome obstacles. This movie has a lot of great lessons. I will remember these lessons as I continue to grow into adulthood.
