Working in the STEM workforce has always been a goal of mine. It all began in middle where I took a internship over the summer to work on building robots. We would create a robot using Lego's and other materials. Depending on the what the robot would be used for, we would make a code on the computer to make the robot have distinct functions. When this internship was over with, I knew what degree I would plan to major in for college.
This led me to the dream of working in the field of engineering where I can learn to use my science, technology, engineering, and math skills to work on complex systems. I plan to expand my education by attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where I would major in Computer Engineering. During my time in college, I plan to boost my networking skills where I can reach out to companies to begin internships. Throughout these internships, I hope to gain experience which would better help me later to learn more about Computer Engineering. I also plan to develop a goal where I can learn how to code software on computers and not just learn how to design computer networks. Once I accomplish these goals, I plan to become a Software Developer or Computer Hardware Engineer.
Attending an HBCU is not only important but a necessity for African Americans. Attending an HBCU would give me the experience where I could celebrate the rich culture of African Americans. HBCU's have a long line of history behind them, and I feel as if it is important for us to learn more about it. And lastly, attending an HBCU gives Black American the routes to pursue professional careers and advance our education while being in the minority category.
