Hello My name is Jonathan Ryans, I am from a small city called Davie in south Florida, I have a Associates in Science degree from a local community college called Broward College in aviation operations, but is pursuing to get a commercial pilots license with an accredited local University called Florida Memorial University, I always stay on top of things no matter what assignment is given to me, and I strive myself everyday to become a better version of myself, my life goal is to not only pursue my career as an pilot in the airline, and the airshow industry, but I also wanted to reach out to the younger generation that are also pursuing aviation as their career.
Although I was considered a slow paced student which lead me to go to a learning strategy class in middle and high school along with speech therapy, it did help me improve in both my communication and the way to learn a certain topic, and receive my diploma and Associates in science degree.
Right now I am part of a nonprofit organization for three years, and what we are doing as an organization is teaching aviation enthusiasts to become airline pilots, starting with private pilots, and we are a 501k approved organization. The organization regularly meet Monday - Friday on WhatsApp, because we have students from different parts of the world especially in Africa that we teach basic rules and regulation of being a private pilot. As I continue my journey in life with God I want to achieve the calling God has placed in my life, and inspire others to achieve their dreams.

In a world with so much division such as race, people wanting to speak for others but not wanting to have others share their side of the story, especially with today's politics it has always led to hatred towards each other and children questioning not only how to live life but also not knowing what is right and what is wrong. Usually, as a minority, it can be hard to use your given voice since society can ignore you or try to silence you since they to keep their innocence in public. I remember there were times I saw people have lunch by themselves or feel like they are alone because, at a public place like church, there is no one that wants to talk to them. For me when I see someone in that situation I just approach them and introduce myself to them. This a small act of being an up-stander since it shows that everyone matters and usually it could be the person that God sent to help you or someone else to move forward whether it's to apply for a better job, search for a house, or help with a difficult homework from either grade school or college like accounting or understanding aviation navigation.
When it comes to how I can use my voice to help the community change for the better, I can participate in activities that involve educating others about race and putting differences aside by hosting weekly events such as having a festival that will have different themes for example, the first week can be about Peru, the second week can be about Nigeria, and the third week can be about Brazil. Specifically, there can be food, music, dance, a two-hour documentary about the country's history and one movie or show that was made in that country so that people can understand the culture of that country. At my University in Miami Gardens, FL I have learned more about Latin American culture, especially the Black Latin community. In the Black Latin community like the Dominican Republic, black Latin people have created a unique style of dance called the meringue which had some adoption from the African tribe and this dance is still being used today at parties such as the quinceanera, and local community parties. I believe if I use my voice on that subject there would it can better educate people on different cultures and there would not be as much prejudice people in America.
Craig Huffman Memorial Scholarship
My name is Jonathan Ryans, my dream of one day becoming an airline pilot began at the
age of five when I attended the Ft. Lauderdale Air and Sea Show. As a young child
I did not know what to expect from the airshow but I was extremely happy to be there. I was
amazed by performers like Sean D. Tucker doing torque rolls, Ed Hamill doing the
Avalanche and the famous United States Air Force (USAF) Thunderbirds doing loops in
coordinated flight with six planes involved. It was an incredible show for me to witness intense
aerobatics being performed over the Atlantic Ocean. Even as a child, I realized the pilots were
focused highly trained individuals a goal I then aspired to achieve.
In December of 2007, my father brought an RC aircraft simulator for me to further develop
my skills and knowledge. I started out flying smaller electric aircraft and I got to see and
test the consequences of poor airmanship versus good airmanship in a controlled environment.
My dad showed me the basic controls of the airplane, like the rudder, the elevator, and the
aileron, which are the main controls of the airplane. With patience, dedication and
commitment along with my father’s help, I was able to become a proficient RC pilot.
Flying R/C airplanes helped me understand the basics of aerodynamics and aircraft control and I
realized the importance of Instruction. A year later I flew a gas plane with an instructor at a
place called Markham Park. Although I was nervous because it was the real world with real
consequences I did well and executed all the things I was trained to do.
I have done a total of four discovery flights with different flight schools. I have become familiar
with maneuvers such as steep turns, slow flight as well as takeoffs and landings. More notably
from the age of 5 I always knew that this was my passion but now I know I must do everything
I can to put myself in a position to succeed.
I am applying for this because I believe with this scholarship, I can take the first
step in my dream of becoming a Business Pilot and eventually an airshow pilot by pursuing
my private pilot license. I know that aviation will change my family’s life, because not only will I
be the first person in the family to achieve the dream of becoming a pilot but I will be going to
places that I have always dreamt of going and seeing on television. I know how difficult this
journey ahead is but with my private pilot certificate, I can tutor others exposing them to aviation. I
will eventually become an instructor as another step toward my ultimate goal by being part of a non-profit organization called the Live and Give Foundation Inc. In my four years with the organization, me givethey have helped enthusiasts pursue the dream to fly. The organization will
offer free instruction to help people achieve their dreams of becoming a pilot by earning it with effort whether it's teaching others about aviation such as explaining the wing characteristics of an airplane or being proactive with finding sponsors for the student's training, so in pursuing my dream any assistance I receive along the way is not only assisting me but assisting all the people I will help to realize their dream as well.
Thanks in advance for your kind consideration I am certain that with your help I will be able to make a difference not only in my life but also in my family.
I Can Do Anything Scholarship
My whole life, I have always wanted to be a pilot, whether a fighter pilot flying F-16s in the Air Force Reserves, flying with Airlines such as United or American, or flying corporate jets while also being an airshow performer since my inspiration to fly came from attending an airshow with my family at a South Florida Beach starting at the age of four years old and watching the pilots do incredible stunts on their airplanes, like loops, aileron rolls, and flying upside down in front of thousands of people whether young or old.
Stephan L. Daniels Lift As We Climb Scholarship
As society continues to improve the latest technology that can make our lives easier in the next decade, aviation is one of the STEM fields that has provided the best way to travel since it involves calculation, science, and computers. As a lifelong aviation enthusiast and soon-to-be pilot, this field has helped me be more confident in myself with communication, be a better problem solver, along with understanding the different designs of an airplane like the wings. Many types of airplane wings allow the airplane to react differently from others whether it's a small plane or a large plane. I remember back in 2022 when I was doing my flight training, I experienced how my airplane reacted when my instructor gave me a quick demonstration on how to get into a spin since there were times when I was practicing maneuvers such as stalls, I did not keep the airplane coordinated which in some other airplanes depending on the wing characteristic it can lead to an airplane to spin. The airplane that I was flying was a four-seat trainer that had wings that aviation engineers call moderate taper wings designed to not only create more lift for the plane itself but it was made to make it harder for the airplane to go into a spin since the airplane was built for training purposes.
Although I am getting a degree in aviation management at a local university name Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida I am my main goal is to be a pilot because that has been my dream since I was four years old but sadly the program to be a pilot is very expensive to maintain. For this degree, I would like to share my knowledge about how an airport operates and what it takes to maintain it so that it can continue with its purpose to the community that it is serving to other aspiring aviators. Right now I am part of a non-profit organization called the Live and Give Foundation where we have actual pilots, mechanics, and flight instructors help the next generation of pilots get their wings by providing free ground school courses beginning with Private Pilot. From my knowledge of how an airport functions in the community such as how it gets its revenue, or how to respond if a company wants to build a building near the airport, I can share it with the group so that as the organization grows and one day purchase a property to build a small airpark, many aspiring aviators will understand the basic of how airports functions and what they can do to maintain a safe and healthy airport that can be used by everyone who wants to learn how to fly.
Future of Aviation Scholarship
My name is Jonathan Ryans, and my dream of one day being a pilot began at the age of five,
when I had my first airshow experience. The airshow was at Fort Lauderdale beach. At five
years old I did not know what to expect from the show, but I was happy to be there. I was
amazed to see performers like Sean D. Tucker doing a torque roll, Ed Hamill doing the
Avalanche, and the famous United States Air Force (USAF) Thunderbirds doing a loop with
all six planes involved. It was an incredible show for me to witness intense stunts performed
over the beach.
My journey started with collecting toy airplanes between the ages of five and eleven for a
total of 175 planes during that time, this was a big deal to me. I collected different kinds of toy
airplanes, like the F-22 Raptor (Military plane), a Boeing 777 (A passenger plane), a PT-17 Stearman Biplane (A historic plane that was built during WW2 as a trainer), and a Piper Cherokee 140 (which is a general aviation plane that can also be used as a trainer for civilian pilots). I collected planes because not only, did I want to play with them, and pretend to have my airshow, I wanted to know the name and the design of the planes. Collecting toy airplanes helped me identify the planes that I see in the sky, on television, at the airport, and even the ones performing at the airshow.
In December of 2007, my father brought an R/C simulator for me to practice on. I started
out flying small electric planes but kept crashing them. After months of practicing with electric planes, I was proficient to where I flew them without a problem, then I advanced to gas-powered airplanes. My dad showed me the basic controls of the airplane, like the rudder, the elevator, and the aileron, which are the primary controls of the airplane. It took a while for me to remember, but with
my father’s help, I was able to understand them much better. Flying R/C airplanes helped me
understand the functions of an airplane, and how they operate. A year later at age eleven, I flew
a gas-powered plane with an instructor at a local airfield in Florida. At first, I was nervous because if I crash the plane, there was nothing I can do to fix it, but I did well.
From May 15th, 2017 to now, I have a total of nineteen point five hours
with different flight schools along with an organization that I am a part of, by practicing steep
turns, 360 turns, slow flights, takeoffs, landings, rectangular traffic patterns, and stalls. I knew from the experience of flying real airplanes this was my passion. Right now I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in aviation management at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida as a backup but my main goal is to be a corporate pilot and an airshow pilot flying private jets and aerobatic airplanes. In the aviation industry, there is a major pilot shortage because most people cannot afford flight training. In 2019 I joined a non-profit organization called The Live and Give Foundation where we have real pilots, flight Instructors, and airplane mechanics along with other people that work within the industry to help the younger generation get their wings by providing free ground school sessions starting with the private pilot course. Through the organization, I started improving my communication skills, since the industry expects pilots to have good communication skills when talking to air traffic control.

Ms. Susy’s Disney Character Scholarship
Throughout my life watching Disney movies and TV shows, there have been many characters that I have always loved from Woody, Buzz, Mickey, and Goofy, but out of those characters my favorite is Donald Duck. Although he can sometimes be quite aggressive with people that does not make him a bad person, he put others before himself, and he is very funny. Usually, there are times that I actually can relate to Donald Duck, since I put others before myself like my family and friends, there are times I can make people laugh such as cracking jokes or being weird. I remember years ago on my Disney week (where throughout the week I watch everything Disney especially old cartoons on youtube before the day I go to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida) I watched many episodes that starred Donald.
I see Donald Duck, as a hilarious Disney character, because in some episodes from the old cartoons (when Walt Disney was still alive) he ends up getting the worst consequences than Mickey or Goofy. In one episode of a Mickey Mouse cartoon where Mickey was performing a magic trick in front of the audience, Donald started taunting Mickey because in the early times they were enemies. Moments later when Mickey Mouse has had it with Donald's taunting, he used his magic on Donald Duck, and throughout the whole episode, whenever Donald ended up getting angry, he starts spitting out a deck of cards from his mouth, and I remembered the first time I watched that episode on youtube, I busted out laughing. As a Disney character that puts others before himself, there was an episode called cured duck where Donald visited Daisy's house so that they can go out on a date but when Donald was asked to open one of Daisy's window, he couldn't get it open which led him to be so furious that he ended up breaking everything that Daisy owned. In the aftermath of the ruckus, Daisy canceled the date unless Donald could find a way to control his temper, which he did by ordering a Tootsbury Insult machine that could help cure his temper so that he can go out with Daisy as a changed duck, instead of holding on to that difficult window to open and walking out if Daisy's house angry.
#Back2SchoolBold Scholarship
Every time I go back to school, my parents always told me if I am having trouble with a class, go to a tutor because they will take the time to help to grasp the lesson no matter how many times I ask the same question; or go to them (my parents). Getting help shows strength from that student because he/she wants to develop a great strategy to learn. As a senior student at a University in Miami Gardens, Florida I must take everything seriously because I am two semesters away from being the first in my family to get a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation.
Lifelong Learning Scholarship
Throughout a person's life no matter where he or she is, they are always learning something new whether it's the smallest routine at a job, a new way to get to a destination, a new trick on a skateboard, or a new dance move that he/she discovered. Sometimes having those moments can not only save a person time, but in some industries it can save lives. To me when it comes to my life I have learned a lot of new tricks and tips, and develop new skills from others like my dad, just by taking the time to be with him.
One of the skills that I am slowly discovering is how to fix certain machines like the edger for the yard, how to change my own oil on my car, fix a sink, and how to install new equipment for my toilet. On August 15, 2022 my dad and I were trying to fix the yard edger, because a while back when my dad was cutting the yard the fan belt broke which caused the machine to develop smoke. What we had to do was trouble shoot the problem, then take out the old parts of the machine, but it turned out that it wasn't just the fan belt that broke, it was also the bearing that keeps the blades spinning also broke. because it was getting to old, so we had to order the new bearings, and a new belt to put in the machine, and made sure that everything was working properly. the other machine that I am slowly learning to do on my own is my own car such as putting in a new air filter, and change my own oil, which I have been doing myself since the year 2018.
Last year my toilet was acting up because in a given time, there was a sound that it made which send in water to the valve of the toilet even when no one was using it, so my dad and I drained the water from the toilet, turn the water valve off, took out the valve, along with the old parts from inside the toilet, and replaced them with the new ones. Although it was my first time learning how to fix one, it was still considered a skill that I was developing, along with fixing a sink whether in my bathroom, laundry room, or even the kitchen. For fixing the sink, on the same year I fixed my toilet, I had to install a new facet in my laundry room, but it was quite simple to do because all I had to do was unscrew two screws, turn the water valve off (like I did with the toilet), take out the old facet, and then put in a new one, and the new facet worked perfectly, because when we test it, nothing was leaking.
I would like to continue to learn different skills especially if it relates to machinery because if I hire a car mechanic to fix it, usually they would not do it properly which can make the situation worse, and they sometimes can overprice simple procedures that I could do myself. One day as a pilot I would like to learn how to fix my own airplane because maintaining an airplane is very expensive, and a mechanic for a plane can also fail to do their job properly, such as annual inspections, and engine overhauls, and if that happens, then there is a tragedy ready to happen, plus I am the type of person that likes to save money.
Bold Bravery Scholarship
Whether it's starting something out of your comfort zone at a job, jumping off from the highest board at a local pool park, or going on the newest ride such as the sling shot at a local theme park, there is always that nudge, or confidence that demonstrates a person's bravery. Usually when a person has those moments it has always been where he/she feels like that they have butterflies in their stomach, because they fear for the worst, but they refuse to let their feelings determined their limits, so they choose the next level, because he/she knows that they were meant to do more.
For me, I remembered the first time I started learning how to fly a small airplane on 05/15/2017 at 2 pm. Before I went to a small airport to go fly, I actually felt a little nervous because, I did not know what to expect, but I flew anyways because that was what I wanted to do ever since I was younger when my family and I went to a local air show and saw some airplanes do aerobatics, and saying to myself I want to do that as well, along with getting the knowledge of the aerodynamics of how a plane functions as a young aspiring pilot that flew R/C airplanes at a local air field with my dad. When the time came I prayed for a safe flight, then went to the airport to take the flight where the instructor and I did some maneuvers while I took control of a four seater Piper Archer which was memorable and from it, now I can say that I have flown an airplane, and is an official student pilot pursing the career in becoming a first generation corporate/ airshow pilot in my family.
MJM3 Fitness Scholarship
In my childhood, I remembered one time when I was at the water park I randomly looked at my stomach, and it looked like someone was blowing a balloon. Although it was not a big deal, it still showed the way I was eating, and I knew that someday that the current way I was eating was going to change. In fact during that time I was not as active as I am now. As a kid there are many times I did not want to eat any meat like chicken, pork, and especially vegetables, since for me it was all about what tastes good to me. I remembered one time years ago when I was in middle school, I have put salt on my baked chicken because all I wanted was for the chicken to taste good but I did not realize that I was developing a poor eating habit. The other poor eating habit that I developed at that time was constantly eating to much fried foods like French fries everyday when ever I eat a hotdog along with drinking sodas quite often.
It started in middle school, where I wanted to tryout for the track team because before I even attended the middle school, my brother tried for the track team which inspired me to do that sport. For me that sport looked like fun because first it was a race, and second it involve running that views who's the fastest in that group. For me at a young age, I have always dreamed of being fast like Sonic the Hedgehog, or a fighter jet such as the Boeing F-18 Super Hornet. I have done the tryouts for the sport in sixth grade, and seventh grade but I did not make the team, because in the mile run, I ended up in last place.
Then in the year 2014 when I was in high school as a junior, after I saw the Sochi Winter Olympics, I have decided that at that time I wanted to be part of the Olympics as a runner, so at that time I joined Cross-Country team. What that meant was I had to change my eating habits so I had to stop eating fried foods, and baked them instead, eat more fruits, and drink a lot of chocolate milk, to maintain bones, from this new habit I ended up as a varsity when the team went to regionals, but finished last place. In December of that same year I tried out for the school track and field team and I ended up running the 4x400 meter relay, the 200 meters (but I did not do to well), the 800 meters, and the 4x800 meter relay. The 800 meter individual was the main event that got me to be a varsity athlete because I was finishing in the high position even though when the track season began, I started in the junior varsity level. Now eight years later I am still running which I became a two time bronze medalist in my age group at a local 5k event, joined some local running clubs, and every time I go to the store I have a fruit that I always buy which I usually eat every lunch, dinner, and snack everyday, but now with that Olympic dream all I can say is, it can be for my child if he/she wants it, because I am more focused in becoming a corporate/airshow pilot.
Amelia Boynton and S.W. Boynton Scholarship
In America there have been countless changes to not only population, but also the way of life like opportunities to vote no matter if that person is a minority or a majority. The Boyntons especially Amelia Boynton, were known for being part of the Selma march, for equal rights for the black community, after countless mistreatments by the whites, just because of their skin color.
During the 1960's when the black community was really at war to fight for equality, Amelia Boynton and her husband have owned several business which helped some run down communities improve in achieving a better life such as learning how to farm, and invest in homes, and Amelia was the very first black female to ever run as a candidate for the democratic party in the US House of Representatives. What she did as a candidate was she challenged the Jim Crow law, and why it was the biggest threat to the American people especially the black community. Unfortunately during the race she lost the competition, because she had ten percent of votes for her back in 1964 (which that ten percent of votes came from the black community). A year later Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Amelia Boynton planned the Montgomery march at her house which was in Selma, which lead to the march from the city of Selma to Montgomery where all of the peaceful protesters encounter violent police officers. On March 7, 1965 it was were the infamous event happened which mainly became known as bloody Sunday, where it gained worldwide attention because from that event, seventeen people were seriously injured for standing up for a better America.
It's amazing to know that back in the sixties there were more active black women, and men who risked their lives to make a major difference for future generations, but it was not often talked about, because it maybe where society today tries to hide other additional details during that period. The Boyntons inspire me to continue to pursue in my education, because just like how they have used several businesses to better people's lives, I want to use my field to help the next generation to pursue the same dream as I have, or just let them know that they are valuable no matter what society may say to them. Right now there are some people in 2022 that have never discovered how to improve their lives because of past traumas, or they have never been taught in their lives. Everyday when I think about some of these stories that some people maybe facing, it makes me ask myself, "What can I do to reach out to those that are in distress?". For me, I want to be the person that will help bring more black people to the aviation community, because right now the status have been showing that less than one percent of pilots that are currently flying airliners or corporate are black. What I am doing right now is I am part of an organization called the Live and Give Foundation which is a non-profit organization that introduces the younger generation to aviation because there is a major staff shortage, especially pilots which are causing many flight cancellations worldwide, while the current pilots are working overtime which is making them quit the industry, so this is a great opportunity to bring more upcoming pilots especially black pilots since often times, society doesn't believe that black people are capable of flying an airplane, when we actually can fly airplanes.
Superfood Lover Scholarship
As a human we have different cravings for some types of foods whether we see it at a restaurant, a TV show, or just thinking about it. It's important to eat super healthy to avoid encountering health problems like high blood sugar, blood clots, or even obesity. Every time I think of superfoods I think of a full plate of my favorite food to eat either healthy or unhealthy.
Usually the superfoods that I crave to eat is a wheat (that I call my foundation food (Which is where I use it in every plate whether dinner or lunch)), some seafoods, a certain salad that I enjoy eating, have a go-to fruit that I eat every lunch, snack and dinner, and some vegetables. The wheat that I call my foundation food would be rice whether fried, white, or even yellow. In my opinion rice gives other food great flavor to my mouth even if the meat does not have any flavor at all. Rice is not only easy to cook but the benefit of having rice on the plate, it also helps a body gain muscle. The seafoods that I call superfood are homemade fried, or baked fish and shrimps whether classic, popcorn, butterfly, or coconut, since seafoods like fish can help a human body stay lean, and maintain muscle strength, while shrimps are low on calories, very high on protein even though most of the shrimps that I mentioned are mostly fried. I mentioned salad because salads can not only be created the way a person likes it to be, but it's loaded with greens like lettuce, or spinach. The salad that I love to eat is the chef type, where it has diced ham, diced turkey, shredded swiss cheese, and of course some lettuce along with a ranch dressing. This salad has two meats that can increase protein, a dairy which can maintain bones since it's considered milk, and green for not only keeping teeth squared but also has vitamin A which improve a healthy reproduction and growth in the body.
As a runner it's very important to find something to help maintain the energy to complete the run that I plan to do whether a mile run, a three mile run, or even a six mile run. For fruits there is one that I always buy ever time I go to a local grocery store which, is a banana. Bananas have the benefit to bring a lot of Potassium to the body which prioritizes the heartbeat which helps me to run a farther distance, which my goal is to run marathons. Even though I mentioned lettuce, there are many other vegetables that I love eating like carrots, peas, broccoli, and string beans. vegetables in general helps with maintaining a healthy blood pressure. When it comes to vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and string beans, I would like to eat them when they are boiled which gives it a little bit of a moist texture when I bite down on them. Next time whenever I do a physical activity, I will know which foods to eat, so that I can maintain my strength as I get older.
Bold Financial Literacy Scholarship
As society tends to predict that being rich can make someone successful, whether that person looks up to professional athletes, music artists, actors, and even well known businessman or woman, there are often little hiccups that society can forget when it comes to being successful. Mainly it's not about how much money a person makes, it's about what they do with that money.
During the years when I was still new to working at a grocery store, I remember the first time I heard about the benefits that my company was offering once I hit the three year mark. When it comes to some companies that a person works for, there are times that an associate can invest in the company. When my mom talked to me about investing in the company I didn't know what to expect because I did not know anything about investment in a company. The way I invested in a company was when I had the opportunity to purchase stock seasonally. The stock that my company was offering was considered a penny stock which means that I can get a small share, but I can build it up when I purchase more stock once the period started. Right now my plan in investing with the company was to set up a retirement plan, so that when I am sixty-five I would not have to worry about how much money will be in my retirement account once that time comes, and also help my children get a better life where they can travel more while being financially smart.
Bold Community Activist Scholarship
In today's society although most of the times there are articles that highlights the negativity at a local community such as robberies, and shootings, sometimes that does not mean that it will be like that forever. What some of the news station do not report as often, are the positive sides like community runs that goes to a great cause, activities that involves schools, and even at local churches that help bring a run down area back on their feet, while showing love.
For me on the last Saturday of the month, my church does what it's called I Love My City. I Love My City is a church event where we go to different areas of South Florida and we not only reach out to the homeless, and tell them about Jesus, but we also partner with other organizations whether it's to support the children in distress, be with the seniors at a retirement facility, or reach out to those who are in prison the love of Jesus. What I did with the church in that event was attend a barn called Hooves for Love (which was near my house in Fort Lauderdale) where they had horses for those with special needs. Specifically we cleaned up the place from picking up rocks, giving a horses some love by petting them to helping the disabled experience not only with riding a horse, but also helping build confidence in being more independent, by passing two balls to the individuals and ask them what the color of the ball is.
Bold Art Matters Scholarship
As a person watches television, visits a website, or a popular place whether locally, domestically, or international, they have seen beautiful pieces or art that has meant a lot to them. Sometimes art pieces are used with everyday products like flowers, bushes, cars, airplanes, buses, even buildings in the downtown area, or even a dance.
One time there was a video of a woman who was doing a dance where every time she developed a new move, she would always go back to the first move that she used. This was one of my inspiration, because not only it was expressing a story, but it was where it was easy for the audience to understand each move she used to tell her story. When I took dance appreciation in 2016 at a local community college, at first I thought it was to feminine because there were some moves that they used that made it to feminine for me. After the professor explained the dance to me and experiencing it at a dance studio, it made me not only think a little bit deeper, but I learned how to appreciate the dance more, because just like the woman that I saw on the video that was using different moves to express her story, I was able to use certain moves to express my story. One day when I get the opportunity to audition at my church to express how God has used me, and find more time to start practicing my dances, I would not be as doubtful in using them because I was able to understand what each moves means and how they are related to my story.
Bold Optimist Scholarship
When it comes to personal issues, it can be where a person can remember a certain situation that they wished that they could have fixed, because now they are experiencing a harsh reality. Sometimes during those moments there is at least some light that can bring hope in the situation where a person can find strength to overcome it.
For me as a twenty-six year old college student that is pursuing a bachelor's degree in aviation management, because my long-term goal which is to be a corporate pilot will cost me a chunk of money to start my flight training. There were times that I remember that back in high school instead of participating in school activities, I should have tried to apply for scholarships to pursue in being a pilot at a local college in South Florida when I was pursuing my Associates degree, or at least participated in a aviation program such as OBAP back when I was in high school, because it would have given me a bigger opportunity to apply for the scholarships that they were offering, and I would be flying Corporate airplanes right now. What really happened was in 2017 at that college, I spent the spring semester trying to apply to many different aviation scholarships but I never won a single scholarship that I have tried applying, because I did not meet the requirements that they were asking for. Looking back at the achievements that I receive like getting my Associates degree and knowing that Jesus is with me everyday are the main things that get me optimistic in the hardest moments. What it has taught me is to be alert of the opportunities that are out there that can propel me to achieve my long term goal in being a corporate pilot.
Bold Learning and Changing Scholarship
When kids grow up, there is always one thing that will always be considered treasure for the rest of their life, whether it's a story that they have heard from their parents, or a home video that they have watched. For me starting in the first grade there was one poem that my father has taught me and now it has been a major resource as a college student, and in life.
The poem in summary mainly focused on not giving up on yourself mentally, and it does not take a talented or a very physically fit person to make it happen. The first time I have recited the whole poem to the public was when I was in the second grade. Everyone was blown away even my teacher because originally everyone was suppose to recite certain parts of a poem that they remember whether it was taught from their parents or not. I decided to recite the whole poem because I knew that I have practiced with my father a year before I did it at my school. At first it was hard to remember because I was only six going to seven and usually kids are expected to remember at least one sentence of a poem, but my father helped me time after time to remember the poem. Now as years went by and the obstacle called life started to advance I have always remember that poem because it's not about how challenging the situation is, it's about having the right mindset to overcome it.
Bold Mentor Scholarship
In my journey as an aviator, I have always had so many obstacles that I had to jump through, or punch through. The first obstacle was understanding more about what my career holds once I achieve the goal, while the main one was finding ways to pay for my flight training. Last year I went to Texas with my mentor who happens to now be a captain of a regional airline called CommutAir along with another student pilot, where we did some maneuvers along with a cross country flight to another airport free of charge.
For me if I was a mentor to others especially if they are pursuing in being a pilot like I am, I would want to build their confidence to be the better version of themselves by guiding them to the path that they choose to follow. The best way for me to help them is telling them my story about how I became the person that I am right now during the days of joy and struggles. What makes a great mentor to that individual is to not only encourage them to keep pushing in their hardest time, but also lift them up once they accomplish their daily goals, because that is what I have experienced with my mentor ever since I have meet him back in 2019, when a friend of mine from church told me about him.
Bold Climate Changemakers Scholarship
In an unprecedented time where not only the ice is melting, and the animals are losing their homes from an increase in human population, there are also a lot of different kinds of trees being cutdown for everyday use like wooding, paper, or even using the land for homes, or other activities.
Every Christmas, I have always love to have a tree home where I can smell the sweet pine scent that fills the house, and touch every part of the tree just for pleasure along with putting water on the tree to maintain the beautiful image of the tree. Sadly in 2022 the number of pine trees which society traditionally use every Christmas, are decreasing which means there will be no more natural scent that will fill up the home, and every family will have to buy fake trees at a store. There is nothing wrong with buying a fake tree but for me I grew up with a real tree at home, and it never got old especially with the scent. I would want to join a program where I can grow pine tree and go to the natural habitat and lay the new trees there so that the pine trees can still exist in our world today, and the next generation can also enjoy their Christmas with the real trees like I did when I was younger. If society can be more involve with putting trees back to their natural habitat, then we can continue to have oxygen within our lungs instead of carbon monoxide.
Shawn’s Mental Health Resources Scholarship
For college students, life can be challenging when it comes to taking classes that may require more time to either review or study. Sometimes it can be where that student can feel so much anxiety, because he/she will think to themselves that they will never finish college because of the class that they are taking. On social media like Facebook, if there is one friend that has graduated from college while the individual is still in college that student will celebrate that accomplishment with them, but they can also feel depressed because of the obstacle that the student is currently facing.
When I am not feeling my best, then I like to go outside to my back patio, and read the Bible. One time during my summer semester, I was taking a class that I was having trouble with, because this class required full understanding of what the lesson is about. The class was business ethics and it was a six week fully online class. During this obstacle I went to a good friend of mine who owns a small business and he helped me get a clarity of certain lessons that was being taught in the class. For example, I was able to understand the topic about secret protection of a product or service that the company can be offering where a company cannot talk about their service to anyone else unless its with the company that they are serving. Most of the time although I got some clarity when I went to my friend for help, when it came to the quizzes that I had to take, I actually did not do to well, because it was timed, which meant that I did not have anytime to think about the correct. When I got the results for the quizzes, it was a fail which at times I was disappointed in myself because all day I was constantly studying, and I always expect to do well in the quizzes that I get. For me when this happen, I can feel stressed and depressed because I find different strategies to study when one way does not work after failing a quiz or sometimes the second strategy does not work, but if none of the ways work whether it's my third or fourth, then it's basically doing it for nothing. Often times as I feel stressed and depressed, I can also lose my concentration, and come up with excuses all the time of why I do not want to join social activities with my friends which can reduce the stress from all of the homework that I have been doing. When I read the Bible in my patio it allows me to not only reset my mind in important things in life such as family, and friends, but it also reminds me that no matter what obstacle I am currently facing, Jesus is always there to guide me spiritually whether in the good, or bad times.
Bold Caring for Seniors Scholarship
As a young boy, every Sunday after church, I have always love to go to my grandmother's house just to say hello to her. I remember the moments especially on special events like my high school graduation, that my grandmother was always there to support me, and have friendly conversations.
There have been a lot of elderly people that I have looked up such as telling their experience about life. As listening to the right elderly people like parents, some close teachers that I had in the past, or if its at a job a customer that I usually would love to talk to, small things like that can make the biggest difference in a local community. For me if a community wants to improve in society, the school should have an event where the elderly can visit a school and talk about their life, as the kids get ready for the real world, and how the kids can improve in society. If possible if there is a particular student that is always getting into trouble, then there should be a one week program where that student can participate with the elder about personal conversation, so that the elder can not only help the individual, because the elder has a similar experience when he or she was young, but can also be a mentor for that student to stay on the right path toward that student's future. Personally the main people that have been my mentor, even in the hardest time on this day are my parents, because my parents have always been my supporters as I am in college pursuing my career in aviation. In my hardest moments my parents, shared their college experience and how they got through even in classes that requires more time to studying.
Bold Great Books Scholarship
To be honest, although most of the times I did not read as much as I should, but it did not mean there were books that I still remember reading that I have enjoyed whether it was for a school assignment or just read for fun. For me, the main thing that makes a book my favorite book, is when I have understood what the story is about.
In middle school, whether it was sixth, seventh, or eighth in English class, when it comes to the books that I have enjoyed reading it would be The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton. In this book, it talks about three brothers, who have lost their parents from a car accident, and the older brother by the name of Darrel Curtiss had to be the leader of the three person house along with the middle brother name Sodapop Curtiss, and the younger brother name Ponyboy Curtiss. Throughout their lives, it has always been about gang violence because the three boys were part of a group called "The Greasers", because they were poor, and lived in a rundown neighborhood. The other group were known as the "The Socs" who are wealthy, and wants to do everything for power. Besides the lost of his parents, the younger brother Ponyboy experienced a lot of drama such as the lost of his friend Johnny when both Ponyboy and Johnny tried to save the children from a burning church, and part of a church collapsed. Back in 2020, there were some friends that I have lost from unexpected death, to being killed by a gun shot, and ever since these events happened, I have always had moments to not only to not take your current friends for granted, but to also live life to the fullest every single day.
Bold Future of Education Scholarship
When I was in grade school, there moments where I have felt that whenever I have trouble understanding a certain lesson, it would feel like that something is wrong with me, because it felt like when the teacher is teaching me the one way because it was easier for him/her to teach it to the students. Sometimes when there was a test that I did not get a chance to finish, I had to come in early the next day just to finish up the test.
I believe a teacher can use many ways to have his/her students understand the same lesson. For example if there are students that are considered visual learners, then the teacher can often use the marker board, or in modern day society they can use the EPSON projection board to have the students understand that lesson while verbally explaining it to the students who are verbal learners so that everyone can be on the same page. For students that still does not understand the lesson, staying an hour or two after school to sit down with the students can give an opportunity for the students to understand the lesson without being pressured in falling behind with the rest of the class for not understanding a lesson that is being taught during class. If a teacher can make this happen daily, than that can lead that teacher to become a better teacher for the school that he or she represents, and the community that they serve, since their job is to help their students be prepared for the future.
I remember years ago in elementary school, I had some trouble with school because there were times I have been kind of slow to learning so what happened at that time was I had to go to a tutor in the school so that I can catch up with my class, and I did. For me having more than one tutor at grade school can help students feel less pressured with learning at their own pace, since everyone does not have the same learning style and speed.
Bold Deep Thinking Scholarship
In my twenty-six years on this earth, as I begin to continue to watch the news, or look up on social media such as Facebook, and keep seeing all of the angry reactions more than the care, or even the love reactions. It looks to me that the world has a challenge with trusting and understanding each other because of previous events that occurred in the past, and being honest as that person is trying to get the help that they need.
I would like to start this problem with feeding the homeless people in the local community. Everyday whenever I go to my job at a grocery store, before we close for the day the deli department, and the bakery department, would usually throw thousands of dollars of food that was made for the customers who are interested in buying the product, whether its baked chicken, fried chicken, a large piece of cake, a pack of cookies, pastries, bread, and croissants. To me, it feels like when this happens it's like we have made these food for nothing. On the other hand if we donate the food to the homeless, some people can make up a story of how the food that was donated was trying to kill them, and sue the company just to get the money for their pleasure, which can question whether its a good idea to give the food away to the needy. The solution that can meet this problem is if we can donate the food to the needy, then every food must have a detailed inspection everyday by a certified health inspector, and have a stamp saying it was inspected, along with the ingredients in the food, so that the company cannot be sued by someone that have a motive for big money.
Bold Hobbies Scholarship
My favorite hobbies are to run with a local running club that I have attended for five years, go go-
karting at a local amusement center, and hang out with friends from my church. For running
beginning in 2014 starting with being at a high school cross country team, I knew that I had an
activity that was not only fun, but I can continue doing after I graduate from high school. In this
activity I have participated local running events that were mostly 5k, and attend a running club every
Wednesday at 7 pm and run almost four miles, sometimes at a local park that I go to, I run beyond a
5k all around the hill, which is usually tough but I fight through it so that I can run longer
distances like a full marathon, along with finishing third place two times at a local event.
For other hobbies such as go-karting, and hanging out with friends from church, both of those
hobbies they are mainly when if I have nothing else planned for the day. For instance when it comes
to go-karting I would go to an amusement center every time I have nothing else to do or I am out from
college for the long break, such as winter, spring, and especially summer break, because for me I love
to seek thrills like going fast. Every Sunday I attend the evening service so that later on, I
can go out with friends to a restaurant and talk about either what was said from service, or get to
know each other more, last year during my summer break I had the opportunity to meet new people
who are now my current friends as I went with my other friends to a local restaurant like Chili's.
Jameela Jamil x I Weigh Scholarship
When ever I think of Allyship throughout my almost twenty-six years here on Earth, I have
always thought about my church called Vous Church which is a Pentecostal Church that is located in
Miami. Another Allyship that comes to my mind is the organization that I have been part of for three
years, and the purpose is to enhance future aviators to become airline pilots or corporate pilots.
In my church there have been a lot of moment that I can think of which had a lot of Allyship here
were times even when I first attended the church I have remembered the time I did a class called the
Growth Track (where I discover the gifts that God has given me), and the first time I have build a
relationship was when I helped pickup the trash after the class for a servant leader who was serving
food for the class during that time. From the moment when I helped clean up, the servant leader had
asked me if I can join the team starting with serving food for the incoming guest that are taking the
class from knowing God in a personal way to joining the team as the Church (as a whole). As I
continue to serve with the team, more trust started developing all because of God's help through the
team, which lead to more people to be part of the Growth Track team, and now I have friends that I
can go to if I need them during my highest time and lowest time. There was another time at the
church I served at a team called the load-out (where the church load packs up their stuff and store
them to the crate since the church is considered a mobile church) and the same thing happened, I
saw that someone needed help so I became the helping hand, and that was when I joined the load-
out. In the two teams that I have joined every time we have completed our task we get the opportunity
to share a word of encouragement and share what God has done in our every day lives, and how we
can help each other in those times which always inspire me to be that person, because that is the
love that God has freely given us.
For the organization that I have been a part of for three years, they have helped me be more
confident in myself, along with other students who are in the same stage as I am in pursuing a career
as a professional pilot either for the airlines, or corporate. The organization is also international
which means we have students from all over the world that meet through WhatsApp, learning the
basic rules as a pilot from regulations, to designs of the airplanes and how they react when the
airplane is flying with real certified flight instructors, pilots, and aircraft mechanics who are actually
mentors to the students. Even in the hardest times in the chat such doubt because it may feel like I
will never understand what I learned, the mentors will share some beautiful pictures of airplanes, and
some scenic views while the plane is in the Air, which reminds the students to never give up on their
passion. To me it has happened many times where the mentors have to remind me of why I have to
keep pushing, but the in the organization we help each other become confident by doing video
presentations with certain topics about aviation like radio communications.
Bold Books Scholarship
When it comes to the book that constantly inspires me, I always think of the Bible, I remember
years ago while studying the Bible there was one passage in the book of Genesis where Abraham,
had to wait for God's promise for a century which was to be a father of many nations. This story
relates to me a lot because as a future aviator I have been on a journey to become an
airshow/corporate pilot for twenty-one years, from the time I went to my first Airshow with my family
at the beach, to flying R/C airplanes with my dad at a local park with an instructor and doing stunts
with them, to experiencing riding on an aerobatic airplane up in Georgia by one of my cousin's friends
to pursuing a bachelor's degree in aviation to be a pilot at a University in Miami Gardens, Florida.
In my current situation I have faced obstacles with chasing the goal, from studying all day and
night about certain topics about being a pilot, passing the written exam on 4/29/2022 after spending
two years preparing for the exam due to other life activities such as other classes that I had to take,
while trusting in God more than myself because there were times where I have doubted myself that I
have not been doing to much to make it happen, when in reality God is steering me to the right path
because with his path it will lead me to joy, and peace.
Bold Art Scholarship
One time from a long time ago, there was one art piece that has always inspired me is one of
Bob Ross' mountain painting, because it actually makes me think how beautiful God's creation is. For
example there was one particular mountain painting that made me be in awe, which was a mountain
lake where it has seven mountain peaks, a clear blue lake, along with several evergreen trees
surrounding the lake. It has always made me think of nature, canoeing, and inner peace. When it
comes to nature although there were places that I have explored in person such as the Everglades
and the beaches at my home state of Florida, it still means that there are some places in different
states such as Colorado, South Dakota, and Arizona.
For inner peace when I go to the beach, it helps me wind down from any stress, challenge, or
even some personal drama that I maybe going through. For me when I look at that painting of Bob
Ross' mountain lake, it will always show how much God loves me, and how incredible he is to me.
One day when I see these beautiful mountain lake in person in the future, I will remember what it will
mean to me.
Bold Acts of Service Scholarship
My name is Jonathan Ryans, and the way I show acts of service, is sacrificing my time to be with others. In an organization that I am currently apart of called The Live and Give Foundation as a senior student (which we usually meet on WhatsApp), I get the opportunity to help other students who want to pursue their dream as a pilot, by answering some questions that they may need a little more clarity on. For example when it comes to calculation in weight and balance on the airplane, if someone needs understanding on how to calculate how much weight should be put on the airplane, I would create a video explaining piece by piece on how to do the math whenever a pilot is getting ready for the flight from the amount of fuel that will be needed for the flight to the number of baggage and passengers that will be on the airplane, because if not then what will happen is if the pilot does not do the calculation, it can lead a pilot to crash his/her plane just after takeoff, which every pilot must avoid, especially with passengers.
Bold Listening Scholarship
I actively listen to those around me, by stopping everything that I am doing, shift my focus on to the person that is speaking, and either give a response, or ask a question if I do not understand what was said. For me there are people who I have listened to from my parents, to my advisors, and mentors because they know if I go to the same direction as they went to, it would make things a bit easier for me.
I remember three years ago, after I graduated from a community college and I wanted to start my career in aviation operations like fueling the airplane at a local airport although my main intention was to be a pilot. My father came home from a R/C airplane airfield at a local park and told me that if I wanted to be a pilot, he suggested me to get a Bachelor's degree from a Historic Black College called Florida Memorial University that is in Miami Gardens, Florida because the University has the best pilot program that anyone can ask for, since someone told my dad about the University while he was at the park. Now I am a current student at that University and well on my way to get the licenses and I am three semesters away from graduating from the university. If it wasn't for the advice from my father and the guy that told my father about the college, it would take me twice as long to achieve my pilot dream, and to me listening means to pay close attention to what is being said because if I listen, I am seeking an better way to live life, as long as I am listening to the right person.
Bold Simple Pleasures Scholarship
Throughout the pandemic back in 2020, I have learned how to appreciate not only people like my family and friends that I can go to for help, but maintain a job that I am currently working at which I am working at a grocery store as I am on the journey in pursuing to be a corporate pilot, and an air show pilot. Originally, during the time when 2020 was a new year my resolution was to apply a job at a local airport as a line service technician (where I mainly fuel the airplanes for their next trip) since I have received my Associates in Science Degree in airport operation from a local college, but I did not get the job.
I remember when the pandemic first started to become a major emergency globally, I remembered asking myself "is my job going to be put on hold because of this virus being contagious?", but when I looked at my schedule I saw that my store was still opened, which meant my store cannot be closed no matter what the outside condition looked like. During that time I remembered days I had to work overtime because my store was jam pack with customers, I was sanitizing everything at the store from handles of the refrigerator, to every single cart that was used by the customer, while I bagged and cashiered to maintain the flow of traffic it was chaotic, but I was grateful that I have a job because if I had stopped working at the grocery store to work at the airport then, I would have lost my job because of the pandemic. I am also grateful that I have friends and family to talk to because, they let me know that I am not alone in life.
Jae'Sean Tate BUILT Scholarship
My name is Jonathan Ryans, my dream of one day becoming an airline pilot began at the
age of five when I attended the Fort Lauderdale Air and Sea show in Florida. As a young child
I did not know what to expect from the airshow but I was extremely happy to be there. I was
amazed by performers doing their maneuvers on their small maneuverable airplane, and the famous
military aerobatic team the United States Air Force (USAF) Thunderbirds doing loops in coordinated
flight with six planes involved. It was an incredible show for me to witness intense aerobatics being
performed over the Atlantic Ocean. Even as a child I realized the pilots were focused highly trained
individuals a goal I then aspired to achieve .
My journey continued with collecting model airplanes between the ages of five and eleven
accumulating a total of 175 planes during that time period. My passion and knowledge for
airplane was further developed during this time. Among the model aircraft I collected a few of
my favorites were the F-22 Raptor , a Boeing 777 , PT-17 Stearman Biplane and a Piper
Cherokee 140. Collecting model airplanes helped me to learn about the different types,
categories and classes of aircraft. It was great to expand my knowledge and allowed me to
identify the different types of aircraft a skill that is useful when taxiing at airports at the highest
level.
In December of 2007, my father brought an R/C aircraft simulator for me to further develop
my skills and knowledge. I started out with flying smaller electric aircraft and I got to see and
test the consequences of poor airmanship versus good airmanship in a controlled environment.
My dad showed me the basic controls on the airplane, like the rudder, the elevator, and the
aileron, which basically are the main controls of the airplane. With patience, dedication and
commitment along with my father’s help, I was able to become a really proficient R/C pilot.
Flying R/C airplanes helped me understand the basics of aerodynamics, aircraft control and I
realized the importance of Instruction. A year later I flew a gas plane with an instructor at a
nearby place called Markham Park. Although I was nervous because it was the real world with real
consequences I did well and executed all the things I was trained to do.
Finally, I took a class at Broward College on the history of Aviation and it was absolutely
amazing! I learned that Aviation started with a hot-air-balloon in France. I also learned the
Technology like the Radar was created in 1934 by Robert Watson Watt, that birds and
other planes are the greatest safety concerns when it comes to flying. I was captivated by
pioneers like the Montgolfier brothers who were the fathers of aviation and back On June 4th
1783 the Wright brothers won the competition of being the first to have a successful heavier
than air flight, with the distance of 120 feet.
I have done a total of twelve discovery flights with different flight schools. I have become familiar
with maneuvers such as steep turns, slow flight as well as takeoffs and landings. More notably
from the age of five, I always knew that this was my passion but know I know I must do everything
I can to put me in a position to succeed.
I am applying for this scholarship because I believe with this $9,650
scholarship, I can take the first step in my dream of becoming an Business Pilot then eventually
an airshow pilot by pursuing my private pilot license. I know that aviation will change my
family’s life, because not only will I be the first person in the family to achieve the dream of
become a pilot but I will be going to places that I have always dreamt of going and seen on
television. I know how difficult this journey ahead is but with my private pilot license I can tutor
others exposing them to aviation. I will eventually become an instructor as another step
towards my ultimate goal. I will definitely offer free instruction to help people achieve their
dreams of becoming a pilot. So In pursuing my dream any assistance I receive along the way is
not only assisting me but assisting all the people I will help to realize their dream as well.
Thanks in advance for your kind consideration I am certain that with your help I will be
able to make my dream a reality.
Bold Talent Scholarship
Right now what one of my talents out of many that I have was the ability to fly R/C airplanes. I
remember starting at the age of eleven years old, even though I had an instructor with me, I have
done many acrobatic maneuvers from loops, rolls, and being upside down, after I have trimmed the
airplane to keep it straight and level, and I and being able to land the airplane smoothly. What I did to
accomplish this skill was constantly practicing on a R/C simulator at my house, whether it's a
training airplane, or an airplane that is highly maneuverable.
After days and days of practice at home from takeoff to landing, in 2009 when I was twelve years
old, I went to an R/C airplane facility at a park in West Palm Beach, Florida with my dad, and did a
solo flight with my airplane from trimming the airplane, landing the plane, and especially doing
several acrobatic maneuvers which resulted that other R/C pilots who were much older than me
became very impressed. I remembered one time one of the older R/C pilots told my dad that I flew the
airplane beautifully, which made me feel that I have a talent if flying R/C airplanes. Right now as I
pursue a bachelors degree in aviation to be an airshow/corporate pilot, I know with this scholarship, it
will help me pursue that passion.
Bold Goals Scholarship
My goal for the future is to pursue my career as a professional pilot in corporate industry, and
the air show industry. Since I was four years old, I have always wanted to be a professional pilot
when I went to an airshow with my family at the beach, and the pilots were performing their
incredible maneuver such as the avalanche, rolls, spiraling up, and dropping down, the invert, and
loops. One time what really made me want be a pilot starting with airshow was when the performer
by the name of Sean Tucker had his airplane in a hover position for a good fifteen seconds. During
this trick I have said to myself how does he do that, because I want to try it to. From that maneuver, it
lead me to fly Radio Control airplanes doing aerobatics such as the loops, rolls, and the invert.
In the year 2018 when I went to Orlando with my local college, I went to an event that had every
single corporate jet in the industry, some were large, small, and even in between. My favorite part
from the experience from the event was where I had the opportunity to go inside the airplane and take
a little tour inside. The one interior that I was so impress was the Gulfstream 550, which is a huge
plane that has seven windows on each side. As a five foot, seven inch man, I was able to get in
without even having to crouch down to see what the airplane looks like inside and inside, it looks
someone's living room, because it had three TVs, a small couch, a bathroom, and a little bar, and as a
corporate pilot I can go to more airports than a commercial airliner whether small or large.
Bold Creativity Scholarship
In my life I have applied creativity in my life, with simply just looking at everyday objects, such as a tree and how that particular tree relates to me. I remember doing an assignment in my high school English class I remember that my teacher had to have me draw a tree that basically defines who I am and what my life looks like. For me I drew an orange tree with one side that is bright and sunny while on the other side it was cloudy and storming, but also I had some portable lights shinning around it. In the picture starting with the stormy side I explained there have been some serious impact whether it's articles that I have watched on the news, or things that have happened around the school, the other part which is the sunny side I have seen so experienced so many beautiful memories, while the light that is shining on the tree represents the light in Christ in me, and the oranges represents the gifts and personalities that have that I can share with people such as warm hugs, dance, and even friendship. Under this creativity right now I have had a thought of starting a story of a little plant that dreamed of producing for the humans to consume for everyday use, from this area it's showing me how I can express myself to the world.
Bold Giving Scholarship
Giving is the most important priority in life, since it not only it reminds that person that they are seen even if modern society wants to over look, but it says that they are valuable. For me the way I give to someone that maybe struggling, or just needs help is mainly time. There were times even when I am busy doing my homework from college, when there is nothing in the kitchen to feed my family, I take the time to cook for them which actually takes me a total of an hour to get the food from the rice to chopped vegetables, to the chicken. Another way that I give my time is to give a friend a ride to church, usually I need to be very cautious of doing this every Sunday, because I do not want him taking advantage of me, but sometimes I give him a ride because it shows God's love to those who may be over looked by modern day society. Both taking the time to cook for the family whether I am doing my homework or not, or giving someone a ride to church reminds me that everyone that I come around to matters.
Bold Driven Scholarship
In my life right now, my goals for the future would be to not only get a Bachelor's degree in Aviation from Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida between the end of 2022, and the beginning of 2023, but I also want to achieve in becoming a corporate pilot, but in my personal life, I want to achieve everything that God created me to be whether it's reaching out to those who are lost in Faith, but I want to help those who may also want to pursue the same career that I am pursuing. Throughout my life ever since I was four years old, I knew that I wanted to be a pilot, when my family and I went to an air show at a beach, and saw the incredible performance done by the pilots, and for twenty-one years it has never changed, even in days that I wanted to stop, but I find ways to keep chasing my dream by watching videos on YouTube about other air show pilots. On the personal side as a Christian when I had a relationship with Jesus, I have discovered what my God given purpose was on this earth, for instance right now I have found opportunities to reach out to those that may feel lonely in life, because I know that Jesus never called anyone to walk through life alone, because I have had a similar feeling in the past.
Bold Make Your Mark Scholarship
The impact that I want to leave for the world, how to be the person that reaches out to people that are either feeling like they have no friends in life (as long those friends are not setting me up to go down with them) and tell them how much value they have because Jesus loves them. In the Bible especially in the book of John it talks about love because of how Jesus loves us.
For example in my life there were times in my head when I am by myself in my room studying sometimes I may feel down whether it's feeling lonely for not having as much friends to hangout with over the weekend, or feeling that I am not as valuable because of past mistakes. I remember one time at my job at a grocery store, I was sweeping the rugs because it was almost closing time, and during that time I saw a man name Juan who was at a bench crying while drinking beer, because he has been going through a tough time, and God was saying "Now is your chance, now is your chance", so what I did was I went over there an first asked if he was ok, and that was how I found out that he was going through a rough time, such as feeling alone, so what I actually told him that God loves him and he has value on earth because of Jesus, and after that I asked him if I can pray for him so I did, and to be honest I actually got his phone number so that we could talk. When the next day came I asked him how he was doing and when I got the text he said "today is a new day".
Youssef University’s College Life Scholarship
What I would do with this scholarship would be to use it for my Classes such as my pilot courses because, unfortunately the program is very expensive and sometimes with it being so expensive people who want to be pilots will take years to come up with ways to pay for their flight training, for me for example, when I started my college year to be a pilot, I remember one time I went to my counselor at a community college, she told me to to be a pilot starting with the private pilot training, it will require $10,000 out of pocket, and if I use my Prepaid for the class it will not cover it. To me this was a major challenge because as an enthusiast for almost twenty-one years I did not want to have the financial side prevent me from becoming a pilot, plus although there are loan programs, I don't want to use any loans because when I think about using loan for $60,000 to $70,000 for the flight training it's going to hurt my future because it will take years to pay off the loan in full, and sometimes it can affect my children and I don't want my children to continue with paying the loans that his or her father is still paying. I believe this scholarship can help me achieve my goal in becoming a commercial pilot.
Bold Best Skills Scholarship
My skills that I can say that I am good at are Dance, flying R/C airplanes, and I am starting to
improve myself in fixing everyday materials such as toilets, and maintaining my car starting
with changing my car oil. What I am doing to improve myself in these skills is practice, because for
me, the way I can improve my ability is have hands on experience. I remember last year when it came
to fixing home equipment, I learned how to put in the new system for the toilet, when the toilet was
not running normally, which my dad helped me along the way to make sure that I put in the right
equipment in the toilet properly so that the current problem doesn't become worse, but I ended up
doing well, because when everything was put together, the toilet ran normally. For maintaining my car
such as changing the car oil, it took only two practices before doing them all without any help but
usually when I change the oil I get very cautious making sure that when I have to tighten the bolt, I
make sure that it's in an even position otherwise oil can leak causing the car to malfunction when in
use.
For flying R/C airplanes, I have been developing this skill ever since I was eleven years-old. I
usually play on a simulator, but many times when I go to the local park to fly them it was like second
nature to me even though I had an instructor who helped me do them properly, because everything I
did on the simulator such as takeoffs and landings and some aerobatics like loops, rolls, upside
down loops, and inverts, I did them very well.
Bold Longevity Scholarship
The best way to live a healthy and long life, is exercising, meditating, and taking a short nap. To
me getting a good full rest, and exercising has helped me to have energy that can last a full day,
and it can help me stay focus no matter if I am doing a homework that seems like it can take forever,
or just wanting to do it for fun. One time years ago during my spring semester in 2018, on a
Wednesday night, I was actually feeling like I was losing focus on my homework that was online,
because my body was telling me to exercise, so I stopped everything and I went to a local running
club, and ran three miles with them, when I came back from running I was fully recharged, and I was
not only able to focus on my homework again but I was able to finish my homework, it was the same
with taking a nap even now, which helped me have the energy to finish my homework.
For meditating, meditation helps me to ease my mind emotionally, such as visioning myself at
a beach playing the water, or even at a amusement park, having a great time with either my family
and friends. Meditation motivates me to keep moving forward, it reduces my anxiety in current
obstacles that I can be facing, especially in college.
Ginny Biada Memorial Scholarship
My mom has impacted my life in a positive way, because my mom has always been there for even in the hardest time. There are a lot of moments that I remember from childhood that it felt like it was yesterday. There was one time in elementary school when I was in the third grade, my class had what was called Winterfest where we get up on stage and perform for the parents. During that time I my class had to perform with an instrument called the recorder (which was an instrument that was a little bit like a clarinet but smaller), but it was like fifteen minutes before I had to get up on stage and I recognized that I have forgotten my instrument at my house, which made cry because I would feel like that I was the only one on stage without the instrument, but my music teacher said "it's ok, what you can do is pretend to play the instrument", but I did not want to do that, so what my mom did was she rushed home to get the instrument which was a fifteen minute drive from the school, and after that fifteen minute drive by the grace God, right where I was about to be up on stage to perform, my mom had got the instrument for me and when I got on that stage I perform and it went well, but on the side note, during that performance there were a few other people who actually had to do what I could have done which was pretending to play the instrument.
Another moment that I shared with my mom was how supportive she was along with my dad when I feel like I have been challenged in my classes in college, even right now. In the year 2019 when I was on my way to get my Associates in Science degree in aviation operation at a community college called Broward College in Florida. At the beginning of the 2019, when I told my mom that I needed to get two internships, so during the season when I went from place to place at an airport but soon was told that there were no internship programs for college students, my mom was still supported me to keep going pushing and one time I felt down, because it felt like that I was never going to get the degree in the year 2019, so what my mom and I did was we prayed together for an internship opportunity , during the summer and fall semesters I got the internship, and when 2019 was coming to a close and with the guidance of God, I graduated with my Associates in Science degree in aviation and now I am about to get my Bachelors in Science degree from a local University called Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida along with my pilots licenses.
As I grew up going to church with my mom, when I got older I soon started having a personal relationship with Jesus for myself starting in the year 2015 after I graduated from High School. If I did not go to church with my mom, and my mom not allow me to understand who Jesus was in my personal life I would not be the person that I am today, even though Jesus is still working in me to be more like him everyday.
Theresa Lord Future Leader Scholarship
My name is Jonathan Ryans who is a student at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida. I am a dedicated, hard working, and on time student student that strives forward to be the better self for the future that is pursuing to be a private jet pilot. Everyday I am always focused on study since it has been almost twenty-one years I have been on this journey to pursue my career as a pilot. The obstacles that I have faced personally were, finding ways to maintaining my classes from the fall of 2021, self doubt because of the things that I have done in the past such as failing a class because of having difficult time understanding, while also helping with a non-profit organization reach out to more people especially young people who want to pursue aviation as their career. Throughout my college life the main obstacle that I have been able to overcome is prioritizing my classes no matter how many I take per semester.
I remember last semester (Fall 2021) I had four classes, which were Principle of Marketing, College Algebra, Air Traffic Control, and Business Ethics, plus I had an Internship at Miami International Airport from Monday - Friday. There were times when I was doing my homework I have felt very sleepy because of being up so late at least 2:00 AM trying to complete my homework, and having to wake up at 6:30 AM to drive almost an hour to get to the Airport to start my 8-11 AM shift on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the airport doing what was called Information Technology, and Telecommunications where I had the opportunity to view every employee from different departments schedule to know whether they were on time or late, and then attend the supervisor's meeting about how the airport can improve their system to have visitors with a faster and more efficient operation with every system that is currently being used to not only keep the airport safe from any threat but, they want to help visitors get from Miami to their destination city, and that is before I have to leave. On Tuesday and Thursdays from 10 - 2 pm at the airport I did what was called Protocol which I had the opportunity to meet with some of the foreign leaders from Ministers, to Military generals and governors. As I was at my internship, if operation for either Protocol or Information Technology does not get as busy, I use the time to do my homework, on my laptop. Most of the time I may not finish them, but at least I have maintained my priority which is school before I go to class on campus which starts at 3 pm. One time when the end of the semester was near I was having so much anxiety because I had doubted myself from finishing my homework because I had to do so much so personally what I did was I stopped everything to sometime to sing worship music to remind me that Jesus can do all things, and reflect on the moments that Jesus helped me accomplish.
On the other hand along with the internship and the four classes I helped with a 501k approved nonprofit organization called the Live and Give Foundation. In the organization I have helped start weekly meetings on Sundays, so that we can keep track on where the group is right now and how we can improve to have more donations from other companies come to us for our plane to train students in the group to become pilots.
Bold Motivation Scholarship
In my college life what Motivates me daily is actually my day dreams such as seeing myself in the future go to different places at different attractions such as Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Santa Claus, Indiana, to go to either theme parks, seeing iconic landmarks like Aspen, Colorado, flying my dream airplane which are aerobatic airplanes, and flying private jets for a living, or even seeing myself walking on that stage getting a Bachelors Degree in aviation. As I am doing my homework even when I feel like that I may never finish, I always take the opportunity just to watch some YouTube videos in aviation whether the creator is traveling, or doing aerobatics. There was one video that I remember watching which had the pilot do a flight from South Florida to the Bahamas, and in that video he has recorded Atlantis that was in the Bahamas, and he got the chance to experience the water park that they had. I have always pictured myself doing the same thing but have my family with me on a three day trip, and having the best moment with each other that we will never forget.
Bold Loving Others Scholarship
What I do to make friends, family, and other people feel like that they are valuable is helping them out, reaching out to them by either texting them, calling them, or just saying I love you. For my family, I always take the time to either go to the grocery store and calling them if the need me to buy them anything from the store whether we need more milk, eggs, bananas, vegetables or cereal first before I buy things for myself, or if I am not to busy with homework, I take the time to help my dad with the yard, or cook dinner for my family. For my friends and other people I remember time that I have reached out to most of my friends by texting or calling them on the phone to see how they are doing, for Instance when my friend Jimmy was down I take the moment to call him and tell him that he is not alone, and he is loved by God, and we pray together. For others such as my customers at my current job there were moments I get a chance to talk to them, and telling them once they leave my register that they are amazing, and to be safe because I know that their life matters.
Bold Joy Scholarship
What Joy means, is finding what makes you happy, whether it's from someone or something. How I find Joy is just looking back at the stuff that I have gone through that makes me the person that I am right now, and where I am heading in the future. Personally There are a lot of things that gives me pure joy, but the main people and stuff that comes to my mind are Jesus, my family, my life, and the area that I am living in. Jesus and my family are the people that bring me joy because I have so many beautiful memories with them from the time my family and I have always enjoyed going to Disney World, to Christmas. For me and Jesus, I have grown up to understand personally that he has helped me throughout my journey here on earth, and everyday I get up, or whenever I look up to the bright beautiful sky I always reflect on the moments that he has always been there for me, and he will see me through in my future. My future also brings me joy because not only that Jesus will help me but, as a student at a local university in Miami, Florida I am very close to getting my pilots licenses, but I will be living my dream as a corporate pilot, but also a stunt pilot, and I can use this platform to reach out to the community, by taking them on rides whether young or old.
Bold Happiness Scholarship
Although everyday when I wake up from my bed and see the sunlight, I get to continue to live another day on earth, but what makes me happy is being reminded that I have friends who accepts me for who I am, a family that I can turn to when in the good, bad and the ugly, and I am valuable in the eye of God. During the time of the Pandemic, I remembered I was on Facebook, and one of the post was read that a former classmate of mine from the fourth grade had died in his sleep, so this reminded me to not take each and everyday for granted. For friends and family in my life, they reminded me that I am not alone and they are always there to guide me to the right path, and encourage me to keep going. In personal life God has reminds me that I am valuable, in the past I experienced many moments that God has used me to reach out to others and telling them that they are valuable as well, even if society tells them otherwise.
Bold Music Scholarship
The song that inspires me, is unbelievable love by Larnelle Harris. The first time I heard of this song was last year in the car as I was making my way home from church. This song is about God's love for his children, and w hat he did so that we know who he really is in our everyday lives. For me this song, inspires me because this song made me want to fly, by the way the music sounded. To me Unbelievable Love kind of reminded me of A whole New World by Regina Belle and Peabo Bryson, so I predicted that where I got the feeling from. As I begin to become a pilot, I will always think about that song because as I am flying I will remember God's love for me by his beautiful creation, from what the earth's surface looks like at thousands of feet, to flying to and in the beautiful white fluffy clouds.
Lo Easton's “Wrong Answers Only” Scholarship
1. I deserve this scholarship, because with this scholarship I need it for my program
2. My career goal is to teach
3. The Time I have overcome an huge obstacle was having confidence, because I had the fear of saying the wrong answer in front of the class when I am at my college, or in a group assignment.
Bold Be You Scholarship
I stay true to myself everyday, by trusting in my Lord and Savior Jesus, and remember the best moments that have changed my life. Throughout my life, especially now in my college life he has never left me nor forsaken me even if there were moments that may have felt like he did. One time during the year 2019, I had spent all year trying to find an internship program in aviation operations. Starting in the beginning of January of 2019, I remembered the time I took twenty-one days of prayer and fasting so that not only I can get closer to God personally, but also have him guide me to the area where they do an internship program, because at that time I only had five classes which included two internships for me to graduate with a Associates in Science Degree in Aviation Operations. What I wanted to do for my internship was do what was known as a line service technician where I can fuel up airplanes, but the places at the airport that had this type of position did not have any internship program. I went and contacted airports all over South Florida from Miami Executive airport to West Palm Beach International Airport and not a single airport had an internship program for line service technician. When that happened I had to take the spring semester off. Later during the Summer I tried again, and still nothing but when I got to my college they had an internship class but I had to do a ten page essay about airports. In the fall God guided me to do an internship at an administration office at small airport, I applied, did an interview with them and I ended up getting the internship, and I now have my degree.
Bold Turnaround Story Scholarship
During my life the one time period the turnaround that I am most proud of is now, because as I am getting older, I am starting to understand how life function whether it will take a sacrifice, or getting advice from a person who had that experience. During this phase as I am inching closer and closer towards my career in being a business jet pilot/ air show pilot, I have never would have thought that I would be part of a nonprofit organization that is reaching future aviators from different parts of the world, improve not only my time to teach others of what I have learned but actually go to Texas with my mentor and do some training there, such as maneuvers, and doing a cross country flight (which is flying from one airport to another). As I have gain that experience I have understood that I can make my dream in becoming a pilot a reality, and all it takes is confidence, dedication, and determination which I have maintained since I was four years old at an air show at a beach back in the year 2001.
Finesse Your Education's "The College Burnout" Scholarship
The song that apply to my mood in college are
1. Keep on moving by Kanye West/Sunday service
2. Hot Wheels by ArchDuke
3. Yes He Can by CAIN
4. Have a talk with God by Stevie Wonder
5.Truth Be Told by Matthew West
These songs are all related to my college experience. Last semester I have found myself so stressed from all of the homework that I have been having, which had made feel like did not want to continue , the two songs fit into this moment because these keep on moving means no matter what the condition I am facing, I had to keep going. The second song Hot wheels the first couple of lyrics especially with the part that said " I have been headed for success since I was just a kiddie", had me reflecting everyday of why I am in college, and it's to not only getting my Bachelor's degree, but to also get my pilot's licenses to go fly private jets and do airshows, which I have been dreaming ever since I was four years old. Yes he can by CAIN, and Have a talk with God by Stevie Wonder both reminded me that God is always available whenever I need him, and there is nothing that is to big for God that he cannot handle since he is the creator of the universes. The last song Truth be told helped me understand that if I have to be bold to ask for help whether it's outside of the classroom or inside the classroom, because there is never such things as weakness when I need help, even if I know something, whether to God or to my professors.
Giving Back to the Future Scholarship
My name is Jonathan Ryans, I am a dedicated, on time and always love to be the helping hand if needed. I believe that giving back to the community is the most important part not only in my life, but in other people's life is because, it can help the next generation understand that there is an opportunity to improve in society that is often viewed as not worthy from crimes to gangs and living in poverty. I am part of a non-profit organization called the Live and Give Foundation for almost three years that is reaching out to future aviators who want to pursue their career as either airline pilots, or corporate pilot. In the organization we have actual certified flight instructors, certified commercial pilots whether it's regional, major, or cargo, and we also have aircraft mechanics.
Everyday we chat on WhatsApp about private pilot lessons whether it's about airplane performance, airplane wing characteristics, rules and regulations, and also have them mentor future aviators on helping them reach their goal to the airlines. My experience with them was amazing because sometimes even if I don't understand a certain topic, such as understanding the chart in airplane performance so that I can have a safe flight from takeoff from the departing airport to landing at the destination airport, they will sit down with me explaining to me on how I should properly calculate the amount of weight I should be putting on the airplane from the amount of people I have with me, the amount of fuel I want to use for the flight, to the amount of runway the plane will be using to clear at least a fifty-foot obstacle like trees, light poles, or nearby apartment buildings. Thanks to the help of the mentors who sat down with me to understand weight and balance I can teach the same lesson to other students that may have the same issue as I did During the time I went to Texas with a mentor from the group we actually Applied weight and balance for our first cross country flight from a small airport in Huntsville, Texas to an airport called Palestine Airport that was at least an hour North from Huntsville.
This organization is a major platform for me right now as I am entering three years with them, because they are allowing me to teach students about aviation, but it will also help me gain confidence in myself in daily obstacles in life.
Bold Passion Scholarship
Hello my name is Jonathan Ryans, and my passion is aviation, because I have always wanted to be a pilot ever since I was four years old. It Started when my family and I went to a local Airshow at the beach, because my father had a passion for aviation when he was younger. During the show I had the experience to see spectacular stunts being performed by professional pilots whether military or civilian. There was one performer by the name of Sean D. Tucker who performed a trick called the Avalanche where the airplane is aggressively rolling in the air, so ever since I saw that performance I have always wanted to be not only just a business jet pilot, but also a stunt pilot. As aviation became my passion I am currently a member of a nonprofit organization that is helping students from different parts of the world get their pilots licenses to go to the airlines, helping other passionate aviators is also what I love to do. In the organization our task is to teach students about aviation regulations, airplane characteristics, weather conditions, proper decision making before a flight, and proper navigation to get from point A to point B safely.
Bold Investing Scholarship
The one investing tip that I would love to take at heart, is to not only stay at a company that will help give you the opportunity to buy stock even if it's penny stock, but also it will help with the 401k plan, because in the future I won't have to worry about to much about working just to maintain health insurance, other bills, and especially food. The person that comes to my mind when I think about investing for retirement is my dad. My dad is a great example as an investor because he had the strategy of finding ways to save money, such learning how to fix a toilet, replace a new sink, repair the sprinklers, and fix the stove and microwave. He also knows that if there was always an issue with the bank account he calls them to notify what happened. All of those things that he has done had opened the door to save money on retirement, and now it has been three years that he is living the retirement life.
Black Students in STEM Scholarship
I am passionate about pursuing a STEM based field, because I love to se how it functions, so that whenever I am around one, and I am with my friends in my free time, I would love to share my knowledge with them. A STEM field that I am pursuing is aviation. Being a pilot, in aviation is my main goal because I have always wanted to fly ever since I was four years old, when my family and I went to an Airshow. When I was at a community college, I had the opportunity to fly an actual four seater airplane, with an actual flight instructor in a discovery flight on May 15, 2017. During that time the one thing I expected to have from this moment was knowing that I am close to reality. During that time, when I went up with the instructor I had the chance to do some maneuvers such as turns, climbs, and descends (where the nose of the airplane loses altitude), and after the flight I wanted to tell my family about my experience. In the year 2018 at the same community I took a Private pilot class that actually taught me the fundamentals about aviation from the regulations, to navigation. One of the main lessons that I got from the class was basically navigation. In navigation, a pilot has to calculate not only the distance and time between the two checkpoints but he/she has to calculate how much fuel will it take to get there. On that same year I took another flight discovery flight but this time I had some knowledge to put it into action from the pre-fight procedure such as the walk around the airplane to make sure that there isn't anything loose, or damaged, to knowing inside the cockpit of the different instruments and what makes them function, and in this flight I had the chance to do steep turns (where the airplane is at a 60 degree bank), and after a while I got use to it.
Then in 2019 - now, I joined a non profit organization that will help future aviators get to the airlines or corporate, and what we are doing now is basically teaching young aviators about rules, regulation and especially aircraft performance, and navigation. One time when my mentor flew me up in Texas for a cross country flight I had the opportunity to use my knowledge to calculate how much fuel will be needed, the total weight for three passengers, and how long it will be to get from point A to Point B, and when we did the flight everything went well, and I was able to accomplish my first cross country flight. Under this scholarship I can achieve my goal to not only become a corporate pilot, but also help future aviators achieve the same goal as I did.
Bold Self-Care Scholarship
I practice self-care by taking a rest by going go karting, just watching a little bit of TV, or spend time talking with friends from church. It impact my life everyday because it reminds me that time is always valuable. As a current student at a local University in Florida, everyday I am always busy because I want to achieve my long term goal as a corporate pilot flying private jets. There are times in those seasons I have been going through anxiety because I have been studying so much and I have moments where I had inner voices tell me that I wasn't going to make it through the semester. What I did to eliminate the voices in my head was stop everything, took two minutes to breathe, and actually watch some YouTube videos about aviation to remind me why I am doing it, and then I get back to where I stopped. When I take these rests it actually resets my mind to understand that I can overcome anxiety.
Bold Growth Mindset Scholarship
I keep a growth mindset, by not only remind myself of why I am doing it, but also I reflect on the accomplishments that I have achieved especially ones that I had to face many obstacles in. Maintaining a growth mindset, helps me know that I am capable of making a difference to the community around me. Right now in a group that I am a part of called the Live and Give Foundation, we are helping future pilots by mentorship, free ground school, and helping the organization grow by having weekly assignments from posting pictures on social media, to posting videos of different topics that relate to aviation such as airplane performance, and wing characteristics of an airplane. In this group this allows me to have a growing mindset because not only I am making a difference to students that are from different parts of the world, but it is also allowing me to be more confident in myself, so in the future I won't be as hesitate to teach an aviation enthusiast on being a pilot.
Bold Patience Matters Scholarship
Being patient is patient is important to me because it helps you not only understand what is really happening closed doors, but it can also improve a person's character. In my experience with patience, I remember back at summer camp we had a Hawaiian based theme, so that meant that we had different activities at the camp. When I arrived at the camp the staff member would ask me what do I want to eat, since it was Hawaii week, I ordered a food called the Turtle Burger. When it was time to go to lunch, everyone was sitting at the table ready to eat so when it started no matter what food we had order everyone was getting pizza from Papa John's, but it was mainly Cheese pizza. When it came to my food, it took almost fifteen to almost a half an hour just for it to arrive, which during the time I thought I was going to get a hamburger instead of pizza. As I looking around watching the others enjoy their pizza, I did did not want to doubt myself. It turned out fifteen to a half an hour later the Turtle Burger happened to be pizza, but the only difference is, the pizza had Pepperoni, which help me understand that if I wait something better will occur.
Bold Friendship Matters Scholarship
To me, friendship means accepting someone for who they are. Friendship is understanding someone's struggle, and that person will do anything to help them get back on track. It can be someone who sees the best in you whether in school or at your job. For example with me I have someone friends who knows my struggle, and they give me advice to overcome the struggles. There is one particular friend that I am still friends with that has been supporting me in my career journey in being a pilot for almost nineteen years. We met in the first grade his name is James Martin, but most people call him Jimmie. We encourage each other even in our trying times, for instance if someone is being mean to me, or him, we help each other overcome those challenges. I also know that with his company I am free to be myself, and it's the same with him as well.
Stephan L. Daniels Lift As We Climb Scholarship
I wanted to pursue a career in STEM, because I have always dreamed of being a pilot beginning at the age of four years old. When my family and I went to a local Airshow at a beach in Florida, we wanted to go there because my dad had a passion for aviation, especially the military. I did not know what to expect from the airshow, but I was happy to be there. I was amazed to see performers doing jaw dropping It was an incredible show for me to witness intense stunts performed over the Atlantic Ocean.
My journey started with collecting toy airplanes between the ages of five and eleven for a
total of 175 planes during that time, this was a big deal to me. I collected different kinds of toy
airplanes, From Military to domestic airplanes. I collected planes because not only, did I want to play with them, and pretend to have my own airshow, I wanted to know the name and the design of the planes. Collecting toy airplanes helped me identify the planes that I see in the sky, on television, at the airport, and even the ones performing at the airshow.
In December of 2007, my father brought an R/C simulator for me to practice on. I started
out with flying small electric planes, but kept crashing them, since they were not destroyed I
could continue practicing. After months of practicing with electric planes, I got the hang of it
and could take off and land without a problem. I advanced to gas airplanes. My dad showed me
the basic controls on the airplane, like the rudder, the elevator, and the aileron, which basically
are the main controls of the airplane. It took a while for me to remember, but with
my father’s help, I was able to understand them much better. Flying R/C airplanes helped me
understand the main controls of an airplane, and how they operate. A year later, I flew
a gas plane with an instructor at a place called Markham Park. I was nervous, because if I
crash the plane, there was nothing I can do to fix it, but I did well.
Finally, on May 15th ,2017 to now, I have done a total of four discovery flights which helped me to know the maneuvers such as the steep turn, the 360 turns, the wing over, and the takeoff, and landings, but I knew I wanted to be a pilot for a living. During the summer of 2018 at Broward College I took a Private Pilot class which helped me understand why math must be involve before every flight, from weight and balance to the distance of the flight and how high I need to be to clear an obstacle in the route.
I am applying for the scholarship because I believe with this scholarship, I can achieve my
dreams in becoming a Corporate Pilot, and in the long run to become an airshow pilot. I know
that aviation will change my family’s life, because not only I will be the first person in the family
to achieve the dream to become a pilot, but I will be going to places that I have always see on
television. I can help people achieve in becoming a pilot, by sharing my story about how I
achieved my dream and encourage others to not give up on their dream. I can also teach them
how to fly an airplane and help them understand the rules of flying an airplane. Any
consideration given to this essay will be greatly appreciated.
