Located in North Carolina, in one of the smallest counties, in one of the smallest schools, lies East Columbus High School. Each graduation class is different in details, but one thing that is almost always the same is that first day of high school. We all share a similar experience of negativity surrounding the atmosphere of the school. This is when I realized that East Columbus has a problem, school pride. I believed that I could make a difference on such an issue. I am currently still carrying out my plan on bringing positivity to my school. First, you need to have a group of people that share similar motives to your own. I became part of the Beta Club and National Honors Society through my academic success. This is how I became exposed to other students that are not only successful in school, but also look to being of service to others. When you are surrounded by a group of people that share similar motives, it becomes a lot easier to get projects planned, started, and completed. Next, this group needs to become enthralled in their own pursuits. This means that every member of the group needs to be involved and enthusiastic about the future. I later became more involved with the Beta Club. We would come up with ideas on how to be of service to our community and school. Having a positive standing within our atmosphere will add on to our growth in the future. Then you need to begin getting the public informed with your pursuits and give them the opportunity to see it and be a part of it. I am currently the student body president of my school, so I lead the student council group as well. I have seen firsthand that having the public participate in your growth will not only grow morale within the group that is hosting such an opportunity, but it will also get more people to support your following ventures. We love to get our student body involved through activities, fundraisers, and special days that we host. Creativity is a huge factor in this part of solving an issue. Lastly, finishing and following through with your promises and ideas will help get the job done. With all of the obstacles that I have faced when challenging negativity, I have always noticed one thing. Determination and consistency are the greatest tools. What is the point of tackling a subject when you cannot follow through in completing it?
