Good Vibes Only Scholarship in Memory of C. Spoon
My name is Jessica Reyes, and I am a sophomore at Lone Star College System majoring in Psychology. I chose psychology because I believe in the incredible potential of understanding our minds to bring about positive change. Growing up in a Hispanic community, I saw how mental health issues were often misunderstood or overlooked, and it inspired me to become a supportive voice that truly understands and cares deeply about these issues.
One deeply personal reason I chose this path is because I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. This experience has profoundly shaped who I am and my desire to help others. I know firsthand the damage this can cause for the rest of one's life, and I am determined to be an advocate for children who have survived similar experiences. I want to provide support and tools for parents to prevent this from happening to their children, as well as offer healing and understanding for those who have already been affected.
BIPOC individuals and communities face unique challenges when it comes to mental health, but I am hopeful for a future where these barriers are overcome. By pursuing a degree in psychology, I aim to be someone who can bridge that gap. I want to provide culturally sensitive care and advocate for mental health awareness in communities like mine. It is important to me that everyone feels heard and understood, especially those who have historically been marginalized or ignored.
I believe that when BIPOC communities have access to mental health services, it can lead to stronger, healthier communities. People can learn to cope with stress, trauma, and other challenges in a way that respects and understands their cultural background. This can help break the cycle of stigma and encourage more open conversations about mental health, fostering an environment of hope and healing. It is not just about treating mental health issues; it is about empowering individuals and communities to thrive.
In the future, I see myself working with organizations that focus on providing mental health resources to underserved communities and advocating for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I want to help create a world where everyone feels comfortable seeking help and knows that they are not alone. This scholarship would help me continue my education and get closer to achieving that goal. It would allow me to focus on my studies and gain the skills I need to make a real difference. Thank you for considering my application and for the opportunity to pursue my passion for psychology and mental health advocacy.

This experience has inspired me to become a beacon of hope for others who are navigating similar challenges. I am passionate about advocating for survivors and spreading awareness about mental health, especially in communities where these conversations are often avoided.
My dream is to become a psychologist who specializes in supporting survivors of child sexual abuse. Natalie Joy Poremski Scholarship
My name is Jessica Reyes, and my faith has been a beacon of hope in my life, guiding me through challenges and inspiring my dreams for the future. As a college sophomore majoring in psychology at Lone Star College, I have experienced firsthand how my trust in Jesus Christ can transform my outlook and fuel my commitment to the Pro-Life movement. During times when I felt lost and uncertain, my faith provided the hope I needed to persevere and find my true calling. It is this unwavering trust that has inspired me to pursue a path where I can make a real difference in the lives of others.
Living out my faith is about embracing Christ's commandments and sharing His love with those around me. Every Sunday, I find joy in serving at the kids' ministry at my church, where I help nurture young hearts and minds with values of love, compassion, and respect for life. This role allows me to instill in them the importance of cherishing every life. Additionally, I am actively involved in a young adult life group, where we inspire individuals in their 20s and 30s to follow Christ and embrace new beginnings. Through these activities, I aim to spread the hope and salvation that Jesus has given me, building a supportive community that uplifts and encourages each other to leave their past behind and look forward to a brighter future.
My faith has not only shaped my personal journey but also my academic and career aspirations. I am pursuing a degree in psychology to better understand the human mind and behavior, a foundation that will be essential as I aim to attend law school and become an attorney. My dream is to inspire and advocate for people from low-income backgrounds, showing them that their dreams are within reach regardless of their circumstances. As an attorney, I hope to defend the rights of the unborn and protect all stages of life, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to thrive and fulfill their potential.
In my day-to-day life, I engage with fellow students at Lone Star College, sharing how our faith can guide us toward ethical and compassionate choices. By using my education and future career in law, I hope to enact change by standing up for the most vulnerable and promoting a culture that cherishes life at every stage. My faith is not just a personal belief; it is a source of hope and a call to action, driving me to make a positive impact in the world. I am eager to use the skills and knowledge I gain through my studies to create a more just and compassionate society, where every life is valued and celebrated. Through my dedication and efforts, I aim to be a source of inspiration and support for those who may feel that their dreams are out of reach, proving that with faith and determination, anything is possible.

Growing up, I often felt like a wallflower, quietly observing the world around me. But as I have matured, I have come to realize that leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room; it is about being someone others can rely on and trust. This understanding blossomed during a pivotal moment in high school when I faced significant challenges and discovered the leader within me.
In my junior year, I found myself in a group project for a psychology class. At first, I was content to let others take the lead, but as the deadline loomed, it was clear our group needed direction. We were struggling, and I realized that if I did not step up, we might not succeed. Despite feeling nervous, I decided to take initiative and lead the way.
I brought my group together and suggested a plan to divide the work based on each person's strengths. We set deadlines and met regularly to track our progress. It was not easy, and there were moments of doubt and frustration, but I pushed through, learning to communicate effectively and motivate my peers. Through this experience, I realized that leadership is about empowering others and creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
By the end of the project, not only did we achieve a great result, but I also noticed a shift in how my classmates viewed me. They saw me as someone they could count on, and this filled me with hope and confidence. I discovered that overcoming obstacles is not just about personal perseverance but also about uplifting those around you and working together towards a common goal.
As a psychology major, I am excited to continue developing these leadership qualities. I believe they are essential for understanding and supporting others, and I am hopeful about the positive impact I can have in my community and future career. While I may still feel like a wallflower at times, I now see leadership as a hopeful and rewarding opportunity to make a difference and inspire others.
I am committed to using these skills to contribute positively to those around me, and I am eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Leadership is not a burden; it is a chance to inspire and create change, and I am ready to step up to that challenge with hope, determination, and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
Phillip Robinson Memorial Scholarship
My name is Jessica Reyes, and I am currently a sophomore at Lone Star College System, majoring in Psychology. I am writing to express my strong desire to practice law, driven by my passion for making a difference in the lives of people from low-income families and ensuring the safety of American people and children.
Growing up in a Hispanic family, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with limited resources and opportunities. My family has always emphasized the importance of education and hard work, but I have seen how systemic barriers can make it difficult for people in low-income communities to access the support and justice they deserve. This has fueled my determination to pursue a career in law, where I can advocate for those who might not have a voice otherwise.
Psychology has given me a deeper understanding of human behavior and the societal factors that influence it. This knowledge is crucial when considering the complexities of the legal system and how it impacts individuals and families. I believe that with a legal education, I can combine my understanding of psychology with the law to create meaningful change, particularly for those who are most vulnerable.
One of my primary goals as a future lawyer is to work on policies and cases that protect children and families. Children are often the most affected by the socioeconomic status of their families, and I want to ensure that they have a safe and supportive environment to grow up in. By working in areas such as family law or public policy, I hope to address issues like child welfare, education access, and community safety.
Moreover, I am committed to advocating for reforms that make the legal system more accessible and equitable for everyone. I want to help dismantle the barriers that prevent low-income individuals from receiving fair treatment and representation. This includes working towards affordable legal services and policies that prioritize the well-being of all citizens, regardless of their financial background.
In conclusion, my aspiration to practice law stems from a desire to create a more just and equitable society. I am eager to use my education and future legal expertise to champion the rights of low-income families and ensure the safety of children and all Americans. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for the Pumpkin Spice Fan Scholarship, which will help me continue my journey towards becoming a lawyer dedicated to positive change.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
My name is Jessica Reyes, and I am a sophomore at Lone Star College System, studying Psychology with a deep sense of hope and purpose. I have chosen to pursue a degree in healthcare because I am passionate about the power of mental health to transform lives. Growing up in a Hispanic community, I have witnessed how mental health issues can be misunderstood or ignored, and I dream of being part of a movement that brings understanding and support to those who need it most.
Psychology excites me because it unlocks the mysteries of the human mind and behavior. I am especially interested in how cultural backgrounds shape mental health experiences and how we can create more inclusive and effective treatments. My hope is to use my education to bridge the gap between mental health services and communities that might not have easy access to them or might not fully realize their importance.
I am particularly interested in helping children in low-income communities because I believe in nurturing strong, self-assured individuals who can overcome obstacles to achieve their dreams. Many children in these communities face challenges that can impact their mental health, and I want to be there to support them. By providing accessible mental health resources and education, I hope to empower these children to build resilience and confidence, giving them the tools they need to succeed.
As a woman in the healthcare field, I am determined to make a positive impact by championing mental health awareness and education, particularly in Hispanic and Latino communities. I believe my background and experiences give me a special ability to connect with individuals who might feel marginalized or misunderstood. By promoting mental health literacy and reducing the stigma around seeking help, I hope to empower people to take charge of their mental well-being and reach out for the support they need.
I am also hopeful about contributing to healthcare by working towards more equitable access to mental health services. Many people face barriers such as language, cost, and cultural stigma that keep them from getting the help they deserve. I want to be involved in initiatives that make mental health resources more accessible and culturally sensitive, so everyone has the opportunity to lead healthier, happier lives.
Moreover, as a woman in healthcare, I aspire to inspire other young women, especially those from minority backgrounds, to pursue careers in this field. Representation is powerful, and I hope that by succeeding in my own journey, I can show others that they too can make a difference. I want to mentor and support future generations of women in healthcare, encouraging them to bring their unique perspectives and talents to this vital field.

Simon Strong Scholarship
I am Jessica Reyes, a sophomore at Lone Star College System majoring in Psychology. One of the most challenging adversities I faced was 2022, when I lost hope for life. Due to a weak immune system, I was constantly sick, and my body was taking a toll. This period was incredibly tough, and I felt overwhelmed by my circumstances.
Since I was seven years old, I have suffered from PTSD due to a difficult childhood. My immigrant parents struggled financially, which meant they often had to leave my sister and me in the care of a family friend. Unfortunately, this person did not treat us with love but instead with abuse. These experiences left deep scars, and dealing with them has been a lifelong journey.
In 2022, when everything felt too much to handle, my mother’s unwavering support helped me see that I was loved and not alone. Her presence reminded me of the strength and resilience that I have within me. Despite the challenges, my family and faith in God were pillars of support I could lean on.
I focused on rebuilding my health and mental well-being to overcome this adversity. I sought medical advice to strengthen my immune system and started therapy to address my PTSD. Opening up about my experiences was difficult, but it was necessary for healing. Therapy taught me coping mechanisms and helped me process my past in a healthier way.
This adversity has shaped me by teaching me the importance of resilience and the power of love and support. It has also reinforced my passion for psychology, as I want to help others who have faced similar challenges. I have learned that it is okay to seek help and that healing is a journey, not a destination.
To anyone facing similar circumstances, my advice would be to remember that love is the most powerful thing we can lean on. Lean on God and let your family support you because, with their love, you can overcome anything. It is crucial to reach out and not isolate yourself. Whether it is family, friends, or professional help, having a support system can make a significant difference.
Adversity does not define you; it is how you respond to it that shapes who you are. Keep faith in yourself and the support systems around you. Healing takes time, but it is possible to overcome even the toughest challenges with perseverance and love.
