Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
As the future quickly approaches, I recognize the important role that financial literacy plays in achieving my aspirations, particularly as I strive to attend college and ultimately become a Biological Engineer. I've taken numerous financial courses such as the “Delta Community Credit Union” financial literacy classes. The highlights of what I've learned is that there is a high need for accessible resources that empower individuals with the skill and knowledge to navigate the complex world of finance.
Drawing from information provided by institutions like the Financial Education Center, I can see how I want to integrate key financial principles into every aspect of my journey. From mastering budgeting and saving techniques to understanding student loans and scholarships, I am committed to using these skills to push me towards academic and financial success. Understanding financial complexities is crucial to accomplishing my goals of pursuing higher education and becoming a Biological Engineer.
An important aspect of these classes focused on generating a healthy savings strategy. I plan to allocate a portion of my income for savings right from the start and set up an automatic transfer of ten percent of my income to a savings account as soon as I receive a paycheck. By using the strategies offered through numerous classes, I aim to navigate the challenges of financing my education and planning for the future with confidence. Through my courses, I've gained valuable information on identifying assets and strategizing for investments from a young age. Understanding the significance of assets and how they generate passive income has been pivotal. With this knowledge, I plan to work with my parents to create a financial portfolio and focus on investing in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds to generate passive income through assets like rental properties.
Additionally, the emphasis on credit health has taught me the importance of making responsible decisions about my financial well-being. Learning about overspending prevention strategies has also instilled discipline within my approach to managing finances, particularly my shopping habits. By leveraging these principles, I aim to navigate the financial world with caution due to my new information, setting a solid groundwork for my financial future.
I hope to serve as a change within my African American community, advocating for greater access to financial resources and equal opportunities in higher education. Through mentorship, outreach efforts, and collaborative initiatives, I can empower individuals to pursue their educational dreams and achieve their fullest potential, regardless of financial circumstances. Community workshops and mentorship programs focusing on budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt will be essential. Embracing financial literacy principles and engaging with others to share knowledge will help young people like myself make more informed decisions and overcome barriers within the black community.
