A moment that shaped me is when my dad left when I was only four. I think I learned how to fend
for myself because at that time it was just me and mom. I always wanted a dad but I learned that
even though I have one, I can not depend on him because he would break promises, so eventually I just gave up and stopped talking to him until recently. Life without a father was hard because all the other kids at school would bring their dad in or their dad would be apart of the PTA staff, and think then is when I realized that I was missing out on something special. When I got old enough he began to send gifts, material items that I did not really want, what I wanted was my dad. But recently, we started to talk again which really allowed me to realize even though I thought I did not need him, I still did. Therefore I would say a lesson I learned it that it is okay to be angry at someone for leaving but eventually if they come back in your life you should forgive them. I have always been involved with my school community. Even though I was not in ASB officer I go to cultural clubs and I am always trying to help other people if they need the help. My biggest part of being apart of a community is my involvement in Black Student Union, because I feel like as a Black person, it is also needed to try and reconnect with other Black people, whether they are from the Carribean Island or from Africa because we all come from different backgrounds there are so many different types of stories and expriences that have accrued it is a good way to learn about other cultures and lifestyles. My cat Rowen and my mom bring me joy because I have always loved animals and family will always be number one for me. Family to me is about the connection you have with those closest to you and that for me is my mom. Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan because I feel like it is really relatable mainly when she sung "I
know you wanted me to stay", I love this lyric because I want to leave Washington State but my
gmom wants me to either stay in Washington or go to Louisiana.
Wicked Fan Scholarship
Wicked, the Broadway musical, holds a special place in my heart because of its compelling storyline, memorable music, and thought-provoking themes. It’s more than just a show; it’s an emotional journey that resonates with me on multiple levels.
First, the story of Wicked captivates me with its unique perspective on a well-known tale. By reimagining The Wizard of Oz through the eyes of Elphaba and Glinda, it challenges the audience to reconsider ideas about good, evil, and societal judgment. Elphaba’s struggles as the “Wicked Witch of the West” highlight themes of prejudice, self-acceptance, and courage in the face of adversity. Her resilience inspires me to stay true to myself, even when it’s difficult.
The music is another reason I’m a fan. Songs like “Defying Gravity” and “For Good” are not only powerful but also deeply emotional. They explore themes of ambition, friendship, and sacrifice. “Defying Gravity,” in particular, empowers me to rise above challenges and embrace my individuality. Every time I hear the soaring notes, I feel a renewed sense of determination.
Lastly, the themes in Wicked resonate deeply with me. The show explores how appearances can be deceiving, how systemic injustices shape narratives, and how relationships can evolve in unexpected ways. These messages encourage me to reflect on my own perceptions and relationships, making the experience personal and meaningful.
In conclusion, Wicked is more than a musical to me—it’s a story that inspires and empowers. Its unforgettable characters, breathtaking music, and profound themes keep me coming back, reminding me to defy expectations and embrace who I truly am.
