John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
Inspired by my niece's ASD diagnosis, I chose to pursue a career in behavior analysis. My goal is to improve the lives of children diagnosed with ASD and other developmental disorders. I saw firsthand how my niece learned new concepts differently than typically developed children at her age. This experience led me to explore teaching strategies rooted in the basic principles of applied behavior analysis to help her with critical functional living skills like toileting and eating.
Seeing the progress my niece made through these methods was incredible. It solidified my passion for behavioral therapy. I have since dedicated myself to this field, studying Psychology at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) and now as a rising second-year graduate student. I want to continue growing in my field and influence the lives of as many kids as possible.
My personal experiences have shaped my professional goals. I have seen how behavior analysis can make a significant difference in the lives of children with developmental disorders. I want to be part of that change. I aim to work in schools or clinics where I can apply my knowledge and skills to help children develop essential life skills. I also hope to work with families, providing them with the tools and strategies they need to support their children at home.
In addition to my personal experiences, my academic background has prepared me for this career. My studies in Psychology have given me a strong foundation in understanding human behavior and the principles of behavior analysis. I have learned about various teaching strategies and interventions that can be used to support children with developmental disorders. I have also had the opportunity to work with experienced professionals in the field, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
I am committed to making a positive impact in the field of behavior analysis. My personal connection to this work drives me to succeed. I want to continue learning and growing as a professional, so I can provide the best possible support to the children and families I work with. I believe that with my passion, dedication, and the right training, I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with developmental disorders.
Thank you for considering my application for the John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship. This scholarship would help me continue my education and achieve my professional goals. I am eager to make a positive impact in the field of behavior analysis and improve the lives of children with developmental disorders.
