My name is Ja'vion Haynes and I've loved and shared an interest in music since I was a small kid. A lot has inspired me to pursue my love for music, as well as people too. I'm from Louisville MS, a small town, so there aren't that many opportunities like this just to appear and be able to take it, and for that I'm grateful.
There were a lot of people who contributed to my love and understanding of music, but I feel like I need to give all the credit to two amazing people. First is the man that taught me all I know about music, he's nobody famous but he's a great guy. My First band director Clay Fuller. Second, is a woman that I only knew for a year but she taught me the fundamentals of music. My 6th-grade band director Rachel Strong Mann. These two people deserve a lot of credit for my musical abilities. Without them I don't think I would have the knowledge of music that I'm blessed with now, or the achievements that I've gained along the way.
I've grown exponentially since joining the band in middle school. I've been my section's first chair since 6th grade. I learned how to play a various amount of instruments. I learned how to sing better and project my usually soft-spoken voice. I'm the new drum major of Louisville High School. I even taught myself how to compose music by ear.
I eventually want to learn how to help my fellow African-American kids, along with other kids of color, find and express their love for music like I fortunately did. Even though we are a small society in music I personally aim to reach for a goal that breaks standards. I aim to help and teach anybody that wants to pursue a passion for music. Because, if you have a love for anything as big as mine for music then you would want to share your talents with your community and the world. With all that's going on in the world right now, music has always been a safe haven for me, and I know it has been one for a lot of others too. So it would be nice to be able to give people the key to their own safe place and give them the same feeling I have when I'm around the thing that keeps me full.

My name is Ja'vion Haynes, I am a senior at Louisville High School in Louisville, MS. There have been many ways where I've shown leadership throughout my high school career. I am the drum major for LHS' band "Pride of Louisville". Even though I have just been awarded this position 2 months ago, I've always been the person that everybody comes to for questions, suggestions and way more. I always try to show a calm and resilient spirit as I handle situations. I have also been the tuba section leader since middle school and I have learned other instruments, not just for my own benefit, I did it so I can help the other sections in need of help when they can't help themselves.
I'm on the Wildcats basketball team, if I'm being honest I don't show that much leadership in basketball, because I'm still learning myself. But, if there's ever a situation where an underclassman that doesn't know a drill, or not doing a workout right I will take the time to explain how to do it and walk them through it. There's also a little kids camp at the end of the school, I always volunteer to show the kids different skills to help them for when they actually try out for the middle school team.
I am also one of the captains of the archery team at LHS. I have been co-captain since last year. Even though we haven't had a good archery coach in two years my co-captain and I take it upon ourselves to teach each member, new and returning, how to carry and use the equipment and teach them the rules too.
I am a part of the LHS Student Council, a select group of students who are shown as leaders of the campus. I'm the photographer but I take on many side jobs from this organized group. I take on many tasks like setting up an angel gift tree for Christmas, donating donuts to our local 911 first responders, attending in the annual "Horses for Handicapped" event, decorating the hallways for special events and holidays, and designing and requesting things our school or district may need. But overall, I am more than just the photographer for Student Council.
While I juggle all these aspects of being a leader and becoming skilled at what all I do, I am also a person having fun in different activities and past times and I enjoy leading the best way I know how.

Lulu Scholarship for Music Vocation
I have two incredibly special women in my life, my mother and my grandmother. These women have helped me through everything, whether it's sneaking me out of somewhere I don't want to be, or encouraging me to keep going even when I feel like quitting.
I feel like everybody should have a special mother-like figure in their life. The amount of appreciation for my mama and nana can't be put into an essay, but they are the reason I am the person I am today, and for that I am grateful.
