My dream job is to honestly become president one day I’d like to take my law path, and further my opportunities, expand my mind, and my presence. I am a leader amongst leaders I perceive that, that specific attribute of myself will stand out the most in my future career. I excel with teamwork and bonding with all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds. I am an out going person. I have a Dependability and a Strong Work Ethic that I know honestly will get me very far in life. I embrace adversity, as I only see it for as it is away to get better, and break through my limits and walls, of present and future obstacles that are in my way. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth, or a brass spoon for that matter. I had to work and fight for everything I have ever accomplished and will continue to do so. I believe it’s not about motivation that gets you far because honestly motivation runs out. For example you need a different kind of push, you need to be determined, you have to enjoy the journey more than the destination. Things that push me in life are seeing my mother struggle to provide for 5 kids by herself. She taught me no matter how hard it gets you have to keep moving forward for the people that depend on you. I grew up without a father, and recall no childhood memories with him and for that some people will look at me and say I was and am at a disadvantage but because of my mother I never felt that way. All of her skills that she taught me as a kid will forever stick with me. For example, determination, Hardworking, Enthusiastic, Diligent, Assiduous, Resourceful, only some of the handful features and still so many more that I will pass on to my kids. While I may not have been the most lucky person, born into years of experience and wealth, but my commitment, passion and drive towards brilliance have always been my driving factors in performing and exceeding in life. If I am blessed to receive this scholarship, I promise to perform beyond expectation by demonstrating aptitudes and capabilities that have not been demonstrated by anyone who have come before me. I promise to outwork and out perform anyone, and strive to not just be the best version of me but to be the best in general.
Janean D. Watkins Aspiring Victim's Rights Advocate Scholarship
Introduction:
In life's tumultuous journey, overcoming adversity has been my compass, guiding me towards resilience and compassion. This essay delves into my personal triumphs over adversity and elucidates how these experiences have uniquely prepared me for a career in the criminal justice realm, where I aim to better serve victims and make a lasting impact.
Body:
1. **Personal Adversity:**
My encounter with adversity began as a crucible of personal challenges, ranging from familial struggles to unforeseen setbacks. These trials tested my mettle, forcing me to confront hardship head-on. Through perseverance and self-reflection, I emerged stronger, armed with a profound understanding of the human capacity for resilience.
2. **Character Development:**
Overcoming adversity catalyzed a metamorphosis within me, fostering qualities crucial for a career in criminal justice. Patience, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to justice became integral parts of my character, honed through the crucible of adversity. Each hurdle became a lesson, sculpting a version of myself poised to navigate the complexities of victim advocacy.
3. **Entrance into Criminal Justice:**
Motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to society, I found solace in the ideals of the criminal justice realm. The commitment to upholding justice and providing a voice for the voiceless resonated deeply with my newfound values. This realization became the catalyst for my pursuit of a career where I could directly impact the lives of victims.
4. **Career Goals:**
My aspirations in the criminal justice field extend beyond a mere profession; they manifest as a calling. Whether as a victim advocate, a legal professional, or within law enforcement, my overarching goal is to be a staunch advocate for those affected by crime. I envision crafting a system where victims are not merely recipients of justice but active participants in their journey towards healing and resolution.
5. **Making a Difference:**
A pivotal aspect of my career trajectory involves implementing tangible changes in the criminal justice system. This includes advocating for victim-centric policies, promoting trauma-informed practices, and fostering collaboration between agencies to create a comprehensive support network for victims. By amplifying their voices, I aim to bridge the gap between justice served and genuine healing.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, my journey through adversity has been a crucible, shaping me into a compassionate advocate poised to navigate the complex landscape of the criminal justice realm. Armed with resilience, empathy, and a commitment to making a difference, I embark on this path with a profound sense of purpose, eager to contribute to a system that genuinely serves and uplifts victims.
