My name is Jasmin Harrison, I am a single mom that decided to take a pause from school and take care of my daughter. She is now 13, the president of the student council, the soccer captain, and an all-around great kid. She has given me her support in furthering my academic journey. I currently work for a nonprofit organization called BlackPush Inc. BlackPush Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan organization that advocates on issues surrounding Social Injustice, Voter Suppression, Ex-Offender Rehabilitation, and now Gun Violence. After working in the field for a year I felt it was best to return to school and pursue my dream of becoming an attorney. I will be attending a community college to start, transfer to an HBCU college, and then finally attend law school. My dream job is to be the Chief of Staff to the United States President.

I was pregnant with my daughter Jayda during my senior year of high school in 2009. I had dreams of going to college out of my home state of New Jersey but in September 2009 my life changed for the better when I had my daughter. She has taught me that it is ok to not be ok and that I am a fighter and will find a way in any situation. Finally, as she goes into her freshman year of high school I wanted to go into my freshman year of college. Together I feel we will conquer any obstacle that comes our way. I show her every day that I am not a statistic and that my sacrifices will not go in vain. I have motivated her to never give up on her dreams and it's never too late to make your dream a reality. my daughter is my biggest fan and I can honestly say I never want to know a life without her. I also was to show the people in high school who thought I gave up my future to stay focused on my dream. As I apply to different schools it all seems like a dream. I never thought I would be able to be a mother, work full time, and graduate but I also have seen it get down and I know I can do it. With all of the amazing characteristics I have gained as a mother, I will make sure to apply as a student. And when I do graduate my daughter will get to see for herself what hard work, strength, resilience, and focus will get you. I am not only doing this for me but I am doing it for all of the mothers who have to take a step back for their children to get the nurturing they need. We as mothers forget that we are still human and deserve the best just as much as our children deserve the best. And I have every intention of being the very best in every situation my new journey will lead me. I am excited about the barriers I will crush and the hurdles I will jump over. But most of all I am excited for my daughter to see me cross the stage as a graduate and add a new hate to the many I already wear. The Sky is the Limit.
