Some interesting things about me
—————————————————-
My lifelong goal has always been to help people and to achieve ever since I was a child. I always felt the world, needed more kindness and people who are willing to volunteer/ give back to the community. On the other hand, achieving success has always been something that came natural to me. I consistently work hard during school and outside of it in order to live with no regrets on not making my dreams a reality.

My name is Janiya Wright. I am an African American student(freshmen) attending an HBCU called Norfolk State University in order to complete a bachelors degree in accounting. One of my educational goals consist of achieving a bachelors degree in accounting in order to assist me in pursuing a career as an accountant and entrepreneur. Additionally, my career inspiration is to one day provide valuable information such as the time value of money and financial analysis to help make smart investment decisions. Nonetheless, I am certain that if I do not complete my bachelors/masters degree I would never achieve my goals.
Above all, what led to my love and passion for accounting and entrepreneurship was my deep desire to understand the way money works and to help people build a better quality of life. Therefore, I firmly believe that pursuing such careers will help provide me with the opportunity to learn financial literacy for myself, my family, and the Black community in order to build generational wealth. The Black community has faced limited access to building wealth for generations. It is statistically proven that more than half of black Americans ( fifty-seven percent) have credit card debt, about a third (thirty-two percent) have student loan debt, and over a quarter (twenty-eight percent) have mortgage. MLA citation: Jessica Fulton, Pessimism and hope: A survey of the financial Status and Aspirations of Black Americans, Joint center, May 9, 2023, https://jointcenter.org/pessimism-and-hope-a-survey-of-the-financial-status-and-aspirations-of-black-americans/#:~:text=More%20than%20half%20of%20Black,more%20debt%20than%20is%20manageable.
Furthermore, I want to contribute back to impoverished communities in the US that struggle to maintain a sustainable lifestyle. The first project I plan to achieve throughout my accounting and entrepreneurship career is to establish a support group where I provide high paying careers and teach valuable investment skills. The support group would include free information and guidance. I also intend to provide mentors for each individual in order to provide advice, feedback, and support when I’m not available.
The second career goal I would like to establish is a non-profit organization where I can create internships for business school students all around the U.S in order for them to successfully navigate/gain real world experience while in college. I also find it important for business students such as myself and others to network with people throughout different parts of the world and to become leaders in our community. So having this organization would be a great opportunity to do so.
In conclusion, I believe my goals will be a couple steps closer to achieving through this scholarship. I want to make my goals a reality rather than leaving it as a dream. Therefore, I will continue to dedicate my time to working hard in school and outside of it. I want to be able look back on my life one day and be proud of everything I done and know that I’ve done my very best.
