Hi! My name is Jane. I’m 17 and a senior at the College of Southern Nevada High School. I’m currently on track to graduate high school with my Associates in Business. I have a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.95 weighted. Right now ranked 1 out of 84. I plan to pursue Forensic Psychology at a university. I love crafting in general. At the moment I’m exploring painting and beadwork. I am in my school’s student council. I enjoy serving with my peers at STUCO service projects. My favorite was working at the finish line of the Rock’n Roll Marathon. It was so cool to see the runners’ faces when they realized they had finished. I’m so grateful for my peers and friends that have pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I never would’ve put myself out there, but now I’m truly thriving. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety. It’s hereditary and both sides of my family have struggled their entire lives. I have to take medicine to regulate my brain’s chemistry. My brain isn’t right, however, I truly am getting better. I worked with my therapist for years and now I’m doing well enough to be done with therapy. Life is hard and it always will be; there is no way to change that. We can only change how we react and adapt to life’s challenges.

I have always been passionate about understanding human behavior, advocating for justice, and supporting those who have been marginalized by society. This passion has led me to pursue a degree in forensic psychology at Arizona State University with the goal of becoming a licensed social worker. I strongly believe in rehabilitation over punishment and want to work with incarcerated individuals to provide the psychological support and resources they need to reintegrate into society. Too often, people in the criminal justice system do not receive the mental health care and guidance they need to change their lives. Through my studies, I hope to contribute to a system that focuses on rehabilitation, education, and reintegration rather than punishment alone.
Throughout high school, I have taken on leadership roles that reflect my commitment to service and community involvement. I was an active member of Student Council during my junior and senior years, where I took a Leadership class and helped organize events that strengthened school unity. Additionally, I served in various leadership roles within my church’s youth group for over five years, including president, councilor, and secretary. In these roles, I planned activities, coordinated service projects, and mentored younger members. These experiences have shaped my ability to lead, communicate effectively, and advocate for others, skills that will be essential in my future career working with vulnerable populations.
Attending Arizona State University is my dream, but as an out-of-state student, the financial burden is a significant challenge. My family cannot fully cover the cost of tuition, housing, and other educational expenses, so I am actively applying for scholarships to help fund my education. Receiving financial assistance would allow me to focus on my studies without the added stress of financial instability. ASU’s forensic psychology program is the perfect fit for my career aspirations, and with the right support, I can dedicate myself fully to my education and future profession.
Keeping youth safe, both in-person and online, is an issue I care deeply about. In my leadership roles, I have worked to create inclusive spaces where young people feel safe and supported. In Student Council, I helped plan school events that promoted unity and encouraged a positive school culture. Within my church youth group, I helped organize activities that fostered kindness and respect among younger members. By creating strong, inclusive communities, we can prevent bullying and provide young people with a sense of belonging and support.
Cyberbullying is another growing concern, and I believe that education and intervention are crucial in addressing it. Social media has become an integral part of young people’s lives, and while it can be a tool for connection, it can also be a source of harm. In my church group, I spoke with younger members about online safety and responsible social media use. If I witnessed online bullying, I took action by offering support to the victim and reporting harmful behavior when necessary. Moving forward, I hope to use my forensic psychology background to better understand the psychological effects of cyberbullying and work toward developing stronger mental health resources for victims.
My long-term goal is to work directly with all people, providing them with the tools they need to overcome challenges such as bullying, trauma, and incarceration. I believe that rehabilitation, education, and mental health support are key to breaking cycles of crime and violence. Receiving this scholarship would not only help me afford my education but also allow me to continue advocating for justice and rehabilitation. With the right support, I know I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
