    Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
Losing a close family member or loved one is a profoundly transformative experience that can reshape one's perspectives, values, and aspirations. In my case, the loss of my beloved grandmother, a fervent advocate for women's rights and equal pay during the 1960s, has been a catalyst for profound self-reflection and a reevaluation of my life's purpose. As an African American young woman, her legacy and teachings have propelled me to focus on what truly matters and to strive for meaningful change in the realm of diversity, inclusion, and education. My grandmother's unwavering dedication to fighting for women's equality during a tumultuous era in history left an indelible mark on my consciousness. Her commitment to the cause inspired me to carry the torch forward and continue advocating for gender equality, educational opportunities, and inclusivity. I vividly remember her stories of challenging societal norms and the struggles she faced while working to promote the Equal Pay Act. Those stories ingrained in me a deep desire to fight for justice and advocate for a world where everyone is treated with equal respect and opportunities. Pursuing a business degree has become not only a personal aspiration but also a means to further this fight for equality. My studies are not just about academic achievement; they serve as a stepping stone toward gaining knowledge and expertise to effect change in the corporate world. Armed with this education, I aspire to challenge prejudices and biases that hinder progress, particularly for women and minorities. However, my journey hasn't been without its hurdles. Financial constraints have been a significant obstacle, highlighting the disparities in access to quality education. Despite these challenges, the memory of my grandmother's struggle and resilience fuels my determination to overcome barriers. I am reminded that the fight for education is a critical part of the broader battle for equality and social justice. In addition to my academic pursuits, I dedicate my time to volunteering with young African women, mentoring and guiding them to overcome obstacles they may encounter in pursuing education and professional goals. My experiences have shown me the power of mentorship and support, and I strive to pay it forward, empowering others to realize their potential. Being raised by a single parent, who is also fighting her own battles for equality, has shaped my determination and resilience. Witnessing her strength and perseverance motivates me daily to fight for my dreams and be a beacon of hope for others facing similar struggles. In conclusion, the loss of my grandmother has been a clarion call to embrace a meaningful purpose in life—to fight for diversity, inclusion, and education, carrying on her legacy. Through pursuing my business degree, volunteering, and advocating for equal opportunities, I aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of young African women and contribute to a more just and equitable world. My journey is a testament to the enduring power of determination, inspired by the memory of my grandmother and guided by the ideals she fought for.

As a college-bound student of an immigrant family and African American roots, my unique background as a Puerto Rican, Portuguese and African American and female has both challenged and shaped my perspective on the world. Growing up in a household where two cultures and languages were constantly present has given me a deep appreciation for diversity and the power of different perspectives. As a student with immigrant parents, I have been influenced and determinat to succeed in college and beyond. As the first in my family to pursue higher education, the path on going to college as not been easy. Financial constraints, language barriers, racial discrimination, cultural differences have presented numerous obstacles. However, these challenges have only made me more determined to succeed and give back to my community. I plan on using my experiences and education to make a positive impact on the world by giving back to underprivileged communities. As a result, I am pursuing a degree in the field of business management to develop the necessary skills to support those who are marginalized. I am also actively seeking out volunteer and internship opportunities where I can work directly with at-risk youth and minority families. I believe that by providing support and resources to these communities, I can empower them to break the cycles of poverty and inequality that limit their potential. I also plan on making a positive impact by being an advocate for my community. As someone with a unique background and perspective, I plan on using my voice and my platform to raise awareness about the issues faced by diversity and inclusion. I want to be a role model and an inspiration for those who come from similar backgrounds, demonstrating that despite the obstacles, it is possible to achieve success and make a difference in the world. Additionally, I am actively seeking out campus and organizations that represent my cultural background, and become active members to increase representation and cultural awareness. I continue to look for colleges that focus on issues of social and economic justice, or that represent my cultural backgrounds, and become a active member and finding a sense of belonging on campus and college social clubs. In a world rife with conflict, a unique set of circumstances has befallen my generation, the Millennials and Gen Z. This is a world at war, not one fought with conventional weapons on a battlefield, but a war of a different setting—a societal and economic battle that threatens the very fabric of our existence. Yet, armed with resilience and a determination to mold a brighter future, we confront these challenges head-on, leveraging the power of unity and progress. As a young African American woman with immigrant parents, the weight of societal strife is magnified. Student tuition and debt loom large, shackling the aspirations of an ambitious youth yearning for knowledge and success. Moreover, the burdensome medical insurance system compounds the struggles we face, burdening us with disproportionately high rates, amplifying the financial strain. Our tax structure reeks of greed, laden with disparities that favor the privileged while suppressing the aspirations of the common folk. Single mothers, like mine, bear the weight of providing for their families with limited resources, showcasing resilience and strength in the face of adversity. As a millennial parent raising Gen Z children, the cycle of generational challenges continues, further exacerbated by the previous generation's failures. The echoes of a bankrupt economy resound through our daily lives, affecting our job opportunities and livelihoods. Income remains scarce, unemployment rampant, and hope sometimes elusive. Yet, in this tumultuous journey, we draw inspiration from history—the Greatest Generation—whose mettle was tested during a world at war. Our survival as a society then was at stake, much like ours today. Embracing this "rendezvous" with destiny, we are determined to pave a new path. Older generations yearn for us to conform to their ways, yet we recognize the need for change and progress. We utilize the potent tools at our disposal: social media and text messages, to unite our voices, spread awareness, and advocate for a better world. In our collective pursuit of a brighter tomorrow, we rise above the challenges and limitations. We stand united, resilient, and unwavering, ready to usher in a new era of hope and prosperity. It is in our hands to mend the generational mess left behind, to steer a bankrupt nation and world towards recovery and renewal. We, the Millennials and Gen Z, are the architects of change, and together, we shall shape a future founded on empathy, equity, and progress.

Growing up in a single mother household has taught me the importance of financial stability and the value of a strong work ethic. My mother, who is a banker, instilled in me the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing at a young age. From a young age, I saw firsthand the challenges of managing finances as a single parent. One of the most valuable lessons she taught me was the importance of budgeting. This helped me to understand the importance of spending within my means and the power of compound interest. I also learned about the importance of having an emergency fund, which can provide a safety net in case of unexpected expenses. She explained to me how investments can help to grow your wealth over time, and how different investment options carry varying levels of risk. She also encouraged me to start investing early, as the power of compound interest can be significant over a long period of time. Growing up in an urban environment and attending public school, I didn't receive much formal education on personal finance . My mother’s determination and perseverance in providing for our family despite the challenges has been an inspiration to me and has also instilled in me a strong work ethic. I have learned that financial stability takes hard work and dedication, but it is worth the effort in the long run. My mother’s guidance and experience as a banker has provided me with a solid foundation for managing my finances, and I will use the lessons she taught me throughout my college career and beyond. By utilizing budgeting, saving, investing, and having a strong work ethic, I am confident that I will be able to establish a strong financial future. The earlier you start saving and investing, the more time your money has to grow and compound, potentially leading to a larger nest egg in the long run. This advice is particularly important for me coming from a single mother household, and financial stability is of the utmost importance for my family. Throughout my college career, I plan to utilize this advice by setting aside a portion of my income from part-time jobs and internships for savings and investments. I will also research and educate myself on different investment options, such as stocks, mutual funds, and index funds, to determine which may be the best fit for my goals and risk tolerance. Additionally, I will work to minimize my expenses by creating a budget and sticking to it, avoiding unnecessary purchases and credit card debt. I will also look for ways to increase my income, such as through scholarships, grants, and part-time jobs. Furthermore, I will also seek out guidance and advice from my mother, who is a banker. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the financial industry that I can learn from and apply to my own financial decisions. She has always been a great resource when it comes to personal finance, and I am sure that her advice will be invaluable to me as I navigate the financial challenges of college and beyond. In conclusion, saving and investing early is the most important piece of financial advice I've received and plan to utilize it throughout my college career and beyond to ensure my financial stability. While It might not be easy but it will pay off in the long run. by creating a budget, minimizing expenses, increasing income, and seeking advice from my mother as a banker. I am confident that I will be able to establish a strong financial foundation for my future.

Creating an impact holds different meanings for each individual, but to me, it signifies making a positive difference in the world, particularly within the realm of mental health in the black communities. Throughout my personal journey, I have encountered various challenges, including disadvantages in pursuing higher education, being raised in a low-income family, lacking support and resources for healthcare services, and growing up as a child of a single black mother. However, these obstacles have only fueled my determination to make a lasting impact. This essay explores my efforts to promote mental health awareness, engage in black community initiatives, and empower others to overcome adversities. As a student pursuing a business degree this year, I have faced numerous difficulties associated with mental illness, as well as financial limitations. Growing up in an environment marred by drug and gun violence, I witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects they had on mental health. However, these challenges motivated me to seek avenues for change, leading me to volunteer for a mental illness non-profit organization. By actively participating in awareness campaigns and sharing personal experiences, I aimed to de stigmatize mental health and create a supportive environment. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the critical need for mental health support. Unfortunately, the pandemic exacerbated the pre-existing lack of resources and support systems for those struggling with mental health issues. Recognizing this, I engaged in remote learning while battling anxiety and depression, determined to persevere and support others facing similar challenges. I utilized virtual platforms to create a sense of community, organizing online discussion groups and sharing coping strategies to help black students cope with the isolation and uncertainty brought about by the pandemic. In addition to my academic pursuits, I actively participated in extracurricular activities focused on youth programs and community involvement around mental health and the importance of financial literacy, I volunteered with organizations that aimed to educate Africa Americans children and all young individuals on managing finances effectively. By empowering them with knowledge and skills, we provided the foundation necessary to pursue higher education despite financial limitations. Furthermore, I assisted in fundraising efforts to help students afford the costs of tuition and books, enabling them to pursue their educational aspirations. As a high honor student with a remarkable 4.22 GPA, I recognized the power of leading by example. My academic achievements served as a testament to my determination and resilience, inspiring others facing similar obstacles. By sharing my experiences and offering guidance, I aimed to encourage and motivate those who felt discouraged by their circumstances. I firmly believe that education is a powerful tool for social mobility, and I strive to empower others to overcome their barriers and unlock their full potential. In conclusion, by creating an impact in the world around mental health and financial literacy, I will encompass a multifaceted approach, which I will actively embraced despite facing numerous challenges. By engaging in various initiatives such as volunteering for a mental illness non-profit organization, spreading awareness, participating in community programs, and leveraging my academic achievements, I have sought to empower individuals and promote mental health well-being. I firmly believe that by supporting and uplifting those in need, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate society. Though the path may be arduous, my commitment to making a lasting impact remains unwavering, and I look forward to continuing my efforts to create positive change in the world.

I also received help with affording the costs of my tuition and books, which was a huge relief for me and my family. Despite these challenges, I was able to excel academically. I was a high honor student with a 4.22 GPA. This was not something that came easy to me, but it was a result of hard work and dedication. I knew that I had to work harder than others to achieve my goals, and that was something that I was willing to do. In conclusion, growing up in the inner city can be a challenge, but it is not impossible to overcome. I faced many obstacles along the way, including the disadvantage when it comes to pursuing higher education, low-income families, not having support or resources for higher education, being a child of a single mother, being around drug and gun violence, and not knowing a lot about financial aid. However, I was able to overcome these challenges by focusing on my studies, being involved in extra-curricular activities, and having a support system that included my mother and various community programs. Today, I am pursuing a business degree, and I am proud of the person I have become. My journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, determination, and the value of education.

For many young people, pursuing a college degree is a path to achieving their dreams and future aspirations. However, the high cost of college tuition and the accompanying student loan debt can be a significant barrier for those who come from low-income backgrounds or are first-generation college students, such as myself. As a high-achieving, young African-American girl who did not have access to resources on the cost of college tuition or getting education properly, I had to be strategic in my planning and take proactive steps to address my current and future student loan debt. One of the first things I did was to seek financial assistance to continue my education. As a high school senior, I knew that I needed help to afford college, so I applied for as many scholarships as possible. I also reached out to my school guidance counselor and local community organizations to find additional financial support. Through these efforts, I was able to secure several scholarships and grants that helped me cover my tuition costs. Furthermore, I had to be very intentional about my college major to ensure that it would lead to a career that could help me pay off my student loan debt. Pursuing a fashion business degree may not seem like an obvious choice for someone looking to reduce their student loan burden, but I knew that it was a field that I was passionate about, and with the right skills and experience, it could be a lucrative career. Additionally, I participated in extracurricular activities that helped me gain financial literacy skills, such as volunteering with a local non-profit that provided financial education to low-income communities. As a child of a single mom who works as a banker, I also had the benefit of having someone who understood the importance of financial planning and management. My mother taught me how to budget, save, and invest, which has been invaluable in helping me manage my student loan debt. However, I recognize that not everyone has access to such resources, which is why I have become an advocate for free education. I believe that everyone should have access to quality education regardless of their socio-economic background. Therefore, I have been involved in community activities that promote financial literacy and have also started my own initiative to educate young people about the importance of financial planning and management. Finally, my ultimate goal is to become an entrepreneur, which will give me the flexibility to manage my finances while pursuing my passion for fashion. I believe that with the right skills and knowledge, I can start and run a successful business that will not only help me pay off my student loan debt but also create jobs and contribute to the economy. In conclusion, addressing student loan debt requires a multifaceted approach that includes seeking financial assistance, being intentional about career choices, gaining financial literacy skills, and having access to resources and support. As a young African-American girl who did not have access to resources on the cost of college tuition or getting education properly, I had to be strategic in my planning to achieve my goals. However, with hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to financial literacy, I believe that anyone can overcome the challenges of student loan debt and achieve their dreams.

Overcoming obstacles due to a disability is never an easy journey. As someone who has struggled with dyslexia since kindergarten, I understand the difficulties and frustrations that come with navigating the educational system. However, with the right support and determination, I have been able to overcome many of these obstacles and pursue higher education. When I first started school, I struggled to keep up with the curriculum. I couldn't understand why I was having such a hard time comprehending the material, and my teachers just assumed that I wasn't trying hard enough. It wasn't until fourth grade that my mom decided to take action and have me fully diagnosed for dyslexia. With this diagnosis, we were able to create a curriculum plan that would cater to my learning needs. Despite the challenges that dyslexia presented, I refused to let it define me. I was determined to succeed in school and went on to graduate with honors in high school. However, I still faced obstacles due to a lack of understanding about learning disabilities in some schools and a lack of resources in low-income areas. Now, as I plan to further my education, I am exploring the business management field. I am fascinated by the concept of leadership and how it can be used to drive change and growth in organizations. I am excited to continue my studies in this field and gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become an effective leader. After pursuing higher education, I hope to accomplish several things. First and foremost, I want to prove to myself and others that dyslexia does not have to be a limiting factor in one's life. I want to use my experiences to help others who may be struggling with similar challenges and inspire them to push past their limitations. Secondly, I hope to make a difference in the business world. I want to use my education to work for organizations that are committed to making a positive impact on the world. I believe that businesses have a responsibility to use their resources and influence to drive social and environmental change, and I want to be a part of that movement. Lastly, I want to use my experiences to advocate for greater understanding and support for individuals with learning disabilities. I believe that everyone deserves access to the resources and tools they need to succeed, regardless of their abilities. I want to work with schools and communities to raise awareness about dyslexia and other learning disabilities and promote inclusive learning environments. Of course, pursuing higher education comes with its own set of challenges, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I am fortunate to have the support of my family and the ability to participate in remote learning. I am committed to staying focused and disciplined in my studies and to overcoming any obstacles that may arise. In conclusion, overcoming obstacles due to a disability is never easy, but it is possible with the right support and determination. I am proud of how far I have come in my educational journey and am excited to see what the future holds. By pursuing higher education, I hope to make a difference in the world and inspire others to push past their limitations.

Leadership is an essential quality that is crucial for success in both personal and professional aspects of life. To me, leadership means being able to inspire and influence others positively, setting an example, taking ownership of one's actions, making mistakes and learning from them, and above all, being able to achieve the goals set by oneself and the team. Starting my own beauty business has given me a new perspective on leadership and the importance it holds in the business world. As someone who is passionate about entrepreneurship, I understand that a successful business requires a great leader who can take initiative, overcome obstacles, and lead by example. This upcoming year I will be pursuing my business management degree in college. This will teach me the fundamental principles of leadership, including effective communication, strategic thinking, and decision-making, which are all vital in the business world. As an entrepreneur, I believe that being a good leader is not just about running a successful business, but also about positively impacting the community around you. Community involvement is an essential aspect of leadership. As a resident of a low-income urban city, I have seen firsthand the impact that community involvement can have on the development of youth and seniors in the area. I believe that leaders should take ownership of their community and strive to make a positive impact by volunteering and contributing to community development programs such as nonprofit youth programs. These programs provide young people with opportunities to develop their skills and achieve their goals, empowering them to become successful leaders in their own right. In my experience, making mistakes and learning from them is a critical aspect of leadership. Leaders should be willing to take risks and learn from their failures to grow and develop. By acknowledging their mistakes, leaders demonstrate humility and self-awareness, which is crucial in building trust and respect among their team members. Coaching, teaching, and delegating are also important qualities of a good leader. Leaders should be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their team members and provide them with opportunities to develop their skills. By empowering their team members, leaders create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and achieve their full potential. Overcoming obstacles is an inevitable part of leadership. Leaders should be able to anticipate and respond to challenges effectively, adapt to changes, and find innovative solutions to problems. By leading by example and demonstrating resilience, leaders inspire their team members to persevere and achieve their goals. In conclusion, leadership is a vital quality that holds great importance to me. Pursuing a business management degree and starting my own business has given me a new perspective on leadership. I hope to empower young people, particularly females in high school to become successful leaders in their own right.

Gun violence is a significant issue in the United States, and unfortunately, many people, including myself, have had some form of direct or indirect experience with it. Growing up as a child of a single mother in a low-income, predominantly African American community, I was exposed to the harsh realities of gun violence at a young age. My neighborhood was plagued with gang violence, and it was not uncommon to hear gunshots ring out at night. In high school, I witnessed firsthand how gun violence could devastate families and communities. I remember a classmate who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting just a few blocks away from our school. The pain and grief that his family and friends experienced were palpable, and it left a lasting impact on me. As a first-generation upcoming college student, I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend a college this in a safe area However, I never forgot about the violence that plagued my community and the struggles that many of my peers faced. In college, I attend to became involved in various volunteer organizations that aimed to provide resources and support to underprivileged communities. I want to participated in programs that focused on education and mentoring for at-risk youth, hoping to provide them with positive role models and opportunities to pursue higher education. Through my experiences, I have come to realize that addressing gun violence requires a multifaceted approach. It is not enough to simply focus on gun control legislation; we must also address the root causes of violence, such as poverty, lack of educational opportunities, and systemic racism. As I pursue a career in business and advocacy, I plan to bring awareness to the issue of gun violence by using my platform to advocate for change. This could involve working with organizations that focus on gun violence prevention, lobbying for gun control legislation, or advocating for increased resources and support for at-risk communities. I also hope to use my position as an educator to provide a safe and supportive environment for families and friends By teaching them about the consequences of gun violence and promoting positive values such as empathy and respect, I hope to inspire them to become agents of change in their communities. In conclusion, gun violence is a complex and pervasive issue that requires a multifaceted approach to address. Through my personal experiences and volunteer work, I have come to understand the importance of addressing the root causes of violence and advocating for change. As I continue to pursue my career, I plan to use my platform to bring awareness to this issue and promote positive change in my community.

Being able to support oneself financially is a crucial aspect of adult life. It provides individuals with the freedom to pursue their goals and ambitions, the ability to support their loved ones, and the independence to make decisions about their future. For a child of a single mother, a majority African American student in high school going off to college, being a first-generation student, and having a low-income background, the importance of financial stability is even more pronounced. One way to achieve financial stability is by pursuing a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. STEM careers offer a variety of benefits, including high salaries, job security, and opportunities for career advancement. For someone who comes from a low-income background, a career in STEM can be a way to break the cycle of poverty and achieve financial stability. STEM fields are in high demand, and the job market for STEM professionals is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. This means that STEM professionals are more likely to have job security and a steady income throughout their careers. Additionally, many STEM careers offer high salaries, which can help individuals support themselves and their families. For a first-generation student, pursuing a career in STEM can also provide opportunities for career advancement. Many STEM fields offer clear paths for career progression, with opportunities for individuals to take on more responsibility and higher-level positions as they gain experience and expertise. This can provide individuals with a sense of purpose and satisfaction in their careers, as well as financial stability and security. Financial literacy is also a critical component of achieving financial stability. Having a mother who is a bank manager can be an advantage in this regard, as she can provide guidance and advice on financial matters. However, it is essential to learn about financial literacy on one's own as well. By understanding concepts such as budgeting, investing, and managing credit, individuals can make informed decisions about their finances and plan for their futures. In conclusion, the ability to support oneself financially is essential for achieving independence and pursuing one's goals and ambitions. For a child of a single mother, a majority African American student in high school going off to college, being a first-generation student, and having a low-income background, financial stability is even more crucial. Pursuing a career in STEM can be a way to achieve financial stability, with opportunities for high salaries, job security, and career advancement. Learning about financial literacy is also critical for making informed decisions about finances and planning for the future.
STAR Scholarship - Students Taking Alternative Routes
As a young girl pursuing a higher education, I have always been fascinated by the fashion industry and how it can positively impact people's lives. With my upbringing as a child of a single mother in an urban area with a failing education system, I understand firsthand the challenges that come with living in a low-income community. I want to use my passion for fashion and my degree in fashion business management to create change and give back to those who may not have the same opportunities as I have had. One area of the fashion industry that has exploded in recent years is social media and the role of influencers. I believe that social media and influencers can be powerful tools to inspire and empower young girls, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. As a mentor to young girls, I want to use my social media presence to promote self-confidence, self-love, and body positivity. I want to show these young girls that they can achieve anything they set their minds to and that their circumstances do not define them. In addition to being a mentor, I also want to be an entrepreneur and create my own fashion brand. I believe that entrepreneurship is a pathway to creating economic opportunities in low-income communities. By creating a fashion brand, I can provide job opportunities and inspire other entrepreneurs to follow their dreams. I want to use my fashion brand to give back to my community by investing in local businesses and providing resources to those in need. As an African American woman, I have experienced the lack of representation in the fashion industry. I want to use my platform to highlight the achievements of other African American women in the industry and inspire the next generation of fashion leaders. I believe that by increasing diversity and representation in the industry, we can create a more inclusive and equitable fashion world. Lastly, community involvement and volunteer work are important to me. As a first-generation college student, I understand the importance of giving back and being a role model for others. I want to use my degree and experiences to volunteer in my community and inspire others to pursue their passions. In conclusion, pursuing a career in fashion business management and using my platform to mentor young girls, promote entrepreneurship, give back to low-income communities, and increase diversity and representation in the fashion industry is a dream that I am passionate about. By following this career path, I believe that I can create positive change in the world and inspire others to do the same.

Resilience is a quality that enables us to endure and overcome challenges, setbacks, and adversity in life. It is the ability to bounce back from difficult situations with a new outlook, grow from the experience, and move forward. Over the years, I have learned that resilience is not about returning to normal, but rather creating a new normal based on what we have learned through our struggles. My journey of resilience began in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. I lost my job, and remote learning became the norm. I felt overwhelmed and anxious about the future, but I refused to give up. I learned to adapt to the new circumstances and focus on what I could control. I used the time to learn new skills and develop a growth mindset. As a young high school student dealing with dyslexia, I faced many challenges in my academic journey. Dyslexia made it difficult for me to read and comprehend information, and I struggled to keep up with my peers. However, I refused to let my struggles define me. I sought help from my teachers and developed coping mechanisms that helped me overcome my challenges. I learned to use my strengths to my advantage and developed a love for writing. My resilience journey also involved giving back to the community. I volunteered in a non-profit organization that helped young girls develop their leadership skills. It was inspiring to see how these young girls faced their challenges with resilience and determination. I learned that resilience is not only about overcoming our struggles but also about helping others do the same. Through my experiences, I have learned that resilience is not a one-time event but a continuous process. It requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to learn and grow from our struggles. We must develop a growth mindset and use our experiences as opportunities for growth and development. Resilience is not about returning to normal but about bouncing back with a new mindset that helps us navigate the challenges of life. In conclusion, my journey of resilience has taught me valuable lessons that I hope can inspire others. It is possible to overcome challenges, setbacks, and adversity in life with resilience, determination, and a growth mindset. I believe that we all have the capacity to bounce back from difficult situations and create a new normal based on what we have learned through our struggles.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
One technology that inspires me about the way in which technology can make the world a better place is wearable health technology. Wearable health technology includes devices such as the Apple Watch, Fitbit, and other smartwatches that track various health metrics. In recent years, wearable health technology has become increasingly popular, and for good reason. These devices have the potential to revolutionize healthcare by providing individuals with a more comprehensive understanding of their health and enabling them to take a more proactive approach to managing their well-being. One of the most significant benefits of wearable health technology is its ability to monitor vital signs and other health metrics in real-time. This allows individuals to track their heart rate, blood pressure, sleep patterns, and other key indicators, providing them with a better understanding of their overall health. For example, the Apple Watch has a built-in electrocardiogram (ECG) that can detect irregular heart rhythms and alert the user to seek medical attention if necessary. Additionally, Fitbit's Sleep Score feature tracks the quality of an individual's sleep and provides personalized recommendations for improving sleep habits. Wearable health technology also has the potential to improve healthcare outcomes by providing doctors and other healthcare professionals with more accurate and detailed information about their patients' health. This can help with early detection and prevention of diseases, and also aid in the development of personalized treatment plans. Another area where wearable health technology can make a significant impact is in promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices. These devices can track steps taken, calories burned, and other fitness-related metrics, motivating individuals to be more active and engage in healthier behaviors. Furthermore, wearable health technology can also improve patient engagement and adherence to treatment plans by providing individuals with real-time reminders and feedback on their progress. This can be particularly useful for individuals with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, who need to monitor their blood sugar levels and take medication regularly. In conclusion, wearable health technology has the potential to make a significant impact on the healthcare industry and improve the lives of individuals around the world. By providing individuals with a more comprehensive understanding of their health and enabling them to take a more proactive approach to managing their well-being, wearable health technology can help promote better health outcomes and a more sustainable healthcare system.

As a young African American with dyslexia, mental illness depression, and anxiety after Covid-19, I have always been aware of the challenges that many people in my community face. The history of society has shown us that the disadvantaged have often been marginalized and ignored, creating barriers to achieving success in various aspects of their lives, including education. In recent times, discussions surrounding social inequality and injustice have brought to light the need for society to change its way of responding to the problems of the disadvantaged. One particular area where change is crucial is in the education system, where minority students continue to face numerous challenges that make it difficult for them to access higher education. In this essay, I will argue that it is necessary for society to change its way of responding to the problems of the disadvantaged, and I will focus on why dedicated support is needed for minority students who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. One of the main reasons why society needs to change its approach to the disadvantaged is the degree attainment gap that exists among minority students. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2019, the overall graduation rate for college students was 61.8%, but the graduation rate for African American students was only 42.3%. This gap highlights the need for dedicated support for minority students who may face additional barriers, such as lack of financial resources or inadequate preparation for college-level coursework. By providing resources, such as scholarships and mentorship programs, society can help close this gap and create a more equitable system that benefits all students. Another reason why dedicated support is needed for minority students is the underrepresentation of BIPOC individuals in many advanced fields. This underrepresentation is not due to a lack of talent or ability, but rather a lack of opportunity and access to resources. For example, in 2018, only 9.1% of medical school students identified as African American, and 7.6% identified as Hispanic or Latino. This lack of diversity has been linked to disparities in healthcare outcomes, as patients tend to have better health outcomes when their healthcare provider shares their cultural background. By increasing the representation of BIPOC individuals in advanced fields, society can improve outcomes for all individuals and promote a more diverse and inclusive environment. Finally, society needs to change its way of responding to the problems of the disadvantaged to address the wealth gap that exists as a result of systemic inequality. Minority students are more likely to come from lower-income households, which can make it difficult for them to afford higher education or to have access to the same opportunities as their wealthier peers. By providing dedicated support, such as need-based scholarships or financial aid, society can help level the playing field and promote equal access to higher education. In conclusion, it is necessary for society to change its way of responding to the problems of the disadvantaged, particularly in the area of higher education. By providing dedicated support for minority students who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need, society can help close the degree attainment gap, increase representation in advanced fields, and promote equal access to higher education. It is only through collective efforts that we can create a more equal and just society that benefits all individuals, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.

My passion for dance and art began at a young age of five. Ever since I was young I would dance in front of the TV to all different types of music enjoying every beat and every single song. My mother new I love dance so much she signed me up for my first dance class which was ballet. I was drawn to the expressiveness and creativity of the arts. Dance, in particular, allowed me to express myself in ways that words couldn't. As I grew older, my passion for the arts only deepened, branching out to include fashion and hip hop dance. The creative arts, including dance, art, music, and fashion, offer a means of self-expression and a way to connect with others. For me, the arts provide a sense of empowerment and a way to tell my own story. my passion for dance and art is not just a hobby, but a vital part of who I am. In terms of the most important piece of art or music to me, it would be difficult to pick just one. The significance of art and music is often personal and subjective. For me, the most important piece of art or music is likely the one that resonates with me the in most particular moment in my life. I was also deeply influenced by my Puerto Rican and African roots. Growing up in a Puerto Rican Hispanic cultural background, I was exposed to a rich tapestry of cultural music and dance. The exposure and the cultural heritage played a significant role in my development as a dancer and fashion stylist. I was particularly drawn to the rhythms and movements of traditional Puerto Rican and African music and dance, which served as a powerful source of inspiration for my own artistic expression. The lively rhythms of salsa, merengue and other traditional music styles, as well as the expressive movements of Afro-Caribbean dances, provided a foundation for my own style of hip hop dance. As I grew older, I began to explore the connection between my cultural heritage and my passion for the creative arts, using my dance and art as a way to honor and celebrate my roots. This was an important way to connect with my community and to share my story. Whether it's a fashion that speaks to my emotions or a song that reminds me of a special memory when I was growing up. The arts have the power to touch us in profound ways. In conclusion, my passion for dance, art, fashion and hip hop dance is a reflection of my desire to express myself and connect with others through the creative arts. The arts play a significant role in my life and are a vital part of who I am. The importance of the creative arts in my life may change over time, but my passion for them will remain constantly in my heart.

As a young African American female who has dealt with discrimination, grown up in a low-income urban area without access to mental health resources, and who cares deeply about the mistreatment and discrimination of others, I possess a unique set of qualities that make me who I am. One of the most prominent attributes that make me unique is my empathy towards others. However, I have also seen the resilience and strength of the people in these communities. These experiences have taught me to be resourceful and creative when it comes to problem-solving, and they have also given me a deep appreciation for the little things in life. As a young African American female who has dealt with discrimination, I am acutely aware of the challenges faced by people from marginalized communities. I have personally experienced discrimination based on my race and gender, and I know how it feels to be excluded or marginalized. This has given me a unique perspective on the world, and it has also fueled my desire to fight against injustice in all its forms. Despite the challenges I have faced, I am determined to give back to my community. I believe that everyone has a responsibility to make the world a better place, and I am committed to doing my part. Specifically, I plan to work towards creating more resources for mental health in low-income urban areas. I know firsthand how important it is to have access to mental health resources, and I want to make sure that everyone has access to the care they need. In addition to working towards better mental health resources, I also plan to use my voice and platform to speak out against discrimination and mistreatment. I want to be a positive influence in my community and to inspire others to stand up for what is right. In conclusion, my unique attributes have been shaped by my experiences as a young African American female growing up in a low-income urban area without access to mental health resources. These experiences have given me a deep empathy for others, a resourceful and creative problem-solving mindset, and a strong desire to fight against discrimination and mistreatment. I plan to give back to my community by working towards better mental health resources and speaking out against injustice.

Through volunteer work at local food banks, homeless shelters, and disaster relief organizations, I discovered a passion for helping others and making a positive impact in my community. In addition to my personal experiences, I have also been inspired by the stories of others who have dedicated their lives to helping those in need. From doctors and nurses who travel to impoverished countries to provide medical care, to volunteers who risk their own safety to assist in disaster relief efforts, I have seen firsthand the power of compassion and generosity. As someone who has struggled with mental illness, I am especially passionate about helping young kids who are going through similar experiences. I believe that everyone deserves access to mental health resources and support, regardless of their background or income level. Through volunteering at local schools and community centers, I hope to provide a safe and supportive space for young people to talk about their struggles and find the help they need. Despite the challenges I have faced, I am determined to make a difference in the world. After completing my business management degree, I plan to use my skills to start a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing resources and support to low income families and minorities like myself. I hope to use my knowledge and expertise to develop sustainable solutions that can help address some of the root causes of poverty and inequality. In addition to my work in the United States, I also hope to travel to other countries to assist in disaster relief efforts and provide support to communities with limited resources. I believe that by sharing my time and resources with those who need it most, I can help make the world a better place for everyone. In conclusion, my personal experiences and passion for helping others have brought me to community service and disaster relief efforts. As a young African American, I am committed to using my experiences to make a difference in the world. Through volunteering, starting a nonprofit organization, and traveling to other countries to provide assistance, I hope to contribute more to this area in my life. I believe that by working together and supporting one another, we can create a brighter future for everyone.

Divergent is one of the most underrated books I have read. Divergent is about a dystopian society divided among assigned factions and a girl name Beatrice who doesn't fit into any faction. Beatrice, the main character, was born into Abnegation, but she's far from selfless. Strong-willed and hard-headed, when she receives the results of her aptitude test, Beatrice learns that she is "divergent," meaning she doesn't fit into any one clan. Instead, Beatrice fits into three: Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless. The world Beatrice lives in isn't an easy one. After receiving the aptitude test results, a divergent person can choose to stay in the faction they were born into or test into a more fitting faction. If they fail the test, though, they become "factionless" and are forced to live in poverty. People have often said there are better science-fiction movies, but I believe Divergent is the best. Divergent means “tending to be different or develop in different directions.” Being different was one of the things I hated the most growing up, and I always thought I needed it to fit into society's standards, but when watching Divergent, I started to look at the world so differently. The books have taught me that you don't need to stick to the status quo and have this mindset that we must all be the same, follow all the rules, and be like the group everyone categorizes us in. I’ve always loved different things like fashion, dance, and acting in movies. I always did what everyone else did when I was around my friends. Beatrice was a fighter; she fought for what she believed in and didn't allow anyone to stop her. I don’t want to just fit in or categorize myself; I want to be more. I want to be free, I want to help the world, I want to give to others and not be selfless. I want to tell the truth, my truth. I want to be intelligent and strive for the best. Divergent showed me that there are others just like me and helped me with the constant reminder that you should always, under all circumstances, make decisions for yourself rather than letting society dictate these decisions to you. I have changed my ways after this movie. I have been myself and haven’t been holding myself back. There are some days when it's hard; I overthink and make judgments about myself. Constantly comparing myself to everyone, why can’t I be regular like them? Even on those hard days, I continue to stay true to myself. Divergent also showed me that anything is possible, I can do anything I want and be free to express my thoughts and creativity. Changing the image in my mind makes me feel free to never follow the rules and always discover new things about myself that I’ve never known before. I might not be the most prepared, but I will always continue to follow through when I give people my promise. Understanding if someone tells me no, I am thoroughly asking the wrong person and against all odds I will always strive to be me.

The lessons we learn from the obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to our later success. Life is full of challenges and setbacks, and how we handle them can shape our character and our future. As a young African American, living in a low-income household, and struggling with dyslexia, I have faced many challenges in my life. However, one particular experience stands out as a turning point in my life. As the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the world, my school closed its doors and we transitioned to remote learning. As someone who struggled with dyslexia, this was a daunting challenge for me. I found it difficult to keep up with the coursework, and I felt isolated and alone in my struggles. Being in an urban environment with not a lot of resources in mental illness and disability, I was constantly reminded of the disadvantages and obstacles that I faced. At first, I was overwhelmed and felt like giving up. But then I realized that I had a choice. I could either let this challenge defeat me, or I could use it as an opportunity to grow and learn. I chose the latter. I started by reaching out to my teachers and asking for help. I also connected with other students in my class and formed study groups. This not only helped me understand the coursework better, but it also helped me feel less alone in my struggles. I learned that it's okay to ask for help and that it's important to build a support system. I also started to develop better study habits. I made a schedule and set aside specific times each day for studying. I found that this helped me stay focused and motivated. I learned that discipline and consistency are key to success. Perhaps the most important lesson I learned from this experience was the power of perseverance. I realized that success is not just about being naturally talented or smart. It's about putting in the work and not giving up when things get tough. I learned that setbacks and failures are opportunities for growth and that they can ultimately lead to success. In the end, my struggles with remote learning during Covid-19 taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I learned the importance of asking for help, building a support system, developing discipline and consistency, and persevering through challenges. These lessons have helped me not only in my academic pursuits but in all areas of my life. I am now more confident, resilient, and motivated than ever before.

The movie taught me that you don't need to stick to the status quo and have this mindset that we must all be the same, follow all the rules, and be like the group everyone categorizes us in.

Mental Health Importance Scholarship
Mental health means keeping our minds healthy. Mankind generally is more focused on keeping their physical body healthy. Both physical and mental health are equally important for better performance and results.Mental sickness is becoming a growing issue, not everyone receives the help that they need. Even though mental illness is common these days there is still a stigma attached to it. They feel shame to acknowledge it and seek help from the doctors so they simply ignore it . It's important to remember that "mental health" and "mental sickness" are not interchangeable. Mental illness does not imply that someone is insane, and it is not anything to be embarrassed by. Our society's perception of mental disease or disorder must shift. Mental health cannot be separated from physical health. They both are equally important for a person. One of the biggest challenge students face today is mental health and try to overcome it everyday especially with the world of social media. My biggest struggles is my depression and anxiety. Knowing that it is very common and a lot of people don’t talk about it. Support systems are one of the biggest struggle people can't find. I'm happy that I was giving an amazing family that supports me with every step of the way.Sometimes I feel I’m constantly in a conference room, but the only difference is that I'm the only one in the room, or am I? Overthinker, that is why I would describe myself. I am often deemed worried, stressed, or anxious; Overthinking about what clothes I’m going to wear. Nope, why did I not get invited to the party? I’m going to fail this math test. I Picked up my phone and read a text from 3 months ago, thinking I should have said something different. I once was watching a show and one of the characters once said that imagination is beautiful and it's better than real life. But if you can make your imagination come true, you have a “better life”. Imagination is the real you people don’t get to see because under all the layers of the fake you can finally see a small opening of you. I have been told that my imagination is like a Circus and it runs free and always has the craziest best ideas. My mind has given me a gift to think in a different way and made me feel Like I have something more than bad thoughts. I have learned that my mind is a gift, a positive gift. I have to make the bad thoughts turn into amazing thoughts. My teacher always said that my mind runs crazy and that everything I do is amazing. That my mind is so interesting and has to be shown to everyone. We make a decision that I know is right. The bad thoughts aren’t always right. I have to tell myself. Just because you think it doesn’t mean that it’s true. It's just your brain making scenarios to play tricks on you and make you feel wrong all you need to do is learn how to control it and one day your bad thought will go away. That the end the mind is a different perspective than others and may be different from the others but I have learned that the mind is one of the most powerful organs in the body. When our minds are unstable, they affect the whole functioning of our bodies. People should be aware of the consequences of mental illness and must give utmost importance to keeping the mind healthy.

Just like fashion, make-up was another way to express my creativity. In 2020, I created a brand called “Hey Chica Beauty.” I made a collection of lip glosses and body shimmers. I had my very own pop-up shop, and so many people came to support me. I continued to advertise my business, and it got trendy around town. I started taking college classes in business management and marketing in junior year. I wanted to learn more about how to run a fashion business. With my mom's help and the college classes I took, I began developing my entrepreneurial skills.
