I am Ja’Mya Boyd. I have a 2-year-old named Landan. Raising him has made me a strong woman. I am 18 years old and attend Georgia Chaffee TAPP. My career plan is to be a cosmetologist and run my own business.I have many strengths, I am enthusiastic, determined, and trustworthy. I have also been working on developing my leadership skills like the time I went to the justice fest kickoff to represent my school by myself . Being a single mother has made me really want to push myself to give my child a better life than I had and to heal my inner child. I thought I couldn't make it far in life because I had a child at 16. Many people were getting in my head telling me I wouldn’t be able to finish school while having a child. Self-sabotage as a result of listening to those who underestimated me was my biggest challenge. Attending Georgia Chaffee Tapp and meeting many career teachers have motivated me to keep pushing myself. Becoming a mother gave me a true sense of worth and shifted my purposes of living. I became more emotionally connected, which has made me more open to going out and taking on adventures. My goal is to have my own cosmetology business. I plan to do prom and graduation giveaways. For example, I would do their hair , nails, and makeup. I would give the services to black young women living in single-parent households. I know how it feels to want to avoid adding extra problems onto my parent while she is already struggling to provide life. I also want to teach young ladies self-worth and self-love. Knowing they are beautiful and worth more than they think. It is very important for young women to be taught young so they don’t allow people to treat them poorly because they don't think they deserve to be treated like the queen they are. My plan relates to my career because I will be able to do her hair and makeup, and I believe if you look good you'll feel good. Having this scholarship will help me and my family because we cannot afford for me to accomplish my goals. In addition, it will help me inspire my mother to go back and finish getting her cosmetologist license so she'll be able to live her dream life too. Going to cosmetology school will support me in giving my child the life I always dreamt of. Being able to help young ladies feel self-worth and beauty is one of my biggest motivators to become a cosmetologist.
