I failed the physical fitness test in the Navy and have never looked back. In 2016 I was out of shape, depressed, upset, financially unstable, trying to rebuild what I had left of myself. I am in the United States Navy where you are expected to be in physical readiness at all times. I was so out of shape my body was telling me to break that cycle. My knees and back were feeling like a 50 year old man. I made excuses after excuses for why I was like this. I set on a journey to not only break the cycle and mentality I was stuck in but to create the best version of myself while doing it. What changed me was when I failed the test it was by 3 seconds. If I pushed myself for 4 more seconds I wouldn't be the person I am today. I failed because I lost who I was and the drive I had all my life. I was making poor lifelong choices for temporary problems. When I failed i had no one to blame but myself. I lost all confidence in myself and realized I was just doing enough in life to get by. Over the next year I got into crossfit, college and a better job career wise. As a dad I had to be the example my kids looked up to and before this time I was merely a spitting image of failure. I lost 20 lbs doing crossfit and changing my eating habits. I worked through my issues by digging into my friends, kids, wife and family for support. I leaned on the Navy to help me realize failure wasn't an option. I awake a new Jameer by appling pressure to the few areas in my life that hold every individual grounded. The moment I started applying myself in life is the moment I truly started living. I was deployed less than a year later serving for the worlds greatest Navy. I have not failed in anything since because I simply understood how to give my all and ask for help when needed. The life lessons I have learned are simple. We need to live our life and present the best version of our authentic selves everyday. I take with me everyday of my life that to defy greatness you have to stand tall and realize your weaknesses and apply constant pressure to these areas because your mental capacity is far greater than any pain you have to endure. Pain is temporary and no amount of pain will outlast when you make it over any obstacle you face in your way. Since then I am graduating this school year with a BA in Legal Analytics and Organizational Leadership where I am planning to attend law school after graduation. I have started a athliesure wear brand focused on the 5 pillars of life. I have 3 daughters who I inspire daily. I have an wife who is from Colombia who I am working to push her to graduate college. I am applying for a officer commission in the United States Navy. I am working daily to be more physically, mentally and overall healthy. I want to ultimately help the world become a better place one failure at a time.
