Hello my name is Jalen Holloway. Pulling up this essay / scholarship the question is what have you had to overcome to get to this the point of present this is a good open-ended question that I believe I can answer with much confidence. Being in this generation of I feel I had to overcame different obstacles. The world a has many different ways of testing you and has its trials and tribulations as a young black male for explain. As this explain I will explain the obstacles as a young black male in this world you are looked at different the way you dress, communicate, walk and more. I wear all type of different clothes but one thing I never have worn was a suit. Growing up I saw different positive African American in suits and this had me recognize the power in what you wear and what you look like. Its automatically a stereo type added to melanin skin because of the harsh world we have lived in. For example, I have been living in Mississippi where the population is predominantly white and it is actually in a lot of parts known as racist and not as accepting to black people. Having to live here my high school days has been a blessing but overcoming those days and being able to move go to college I feel this is my biggest challenge and also my biggest achievement. In SIU I will be aiming to be psychologist up to the doctor degree. In this world I feel like your mental health is one and the most important thing as I like to say "It’s all in the mind." I feel not enough people have someone to confide in. In the field I believe I can add realness and experience coming from my story line and young wisdom. I believe I can be the one that a young to an old man or woman that they can come to so you say spill the beans and tell me what is going on their life. I also believe for a lot of people life is hard and people seem to stress but stress just makes it worse you have to have a different way a different outlet and tools so at the end of the day when that person lays their head to rest, they will be alright with themselves, mentally.
