My life goals are to become the first architect in my family’s history. This is important to me because my passion has always been designing, my mother complimented one of my builds and suggested I should pursue it in the future. Not only would I be the first in my family I would probably be the first in my neighborhood, acquiring a scholarship brings me one step closer into proving education is a form of escape.

I stared at the places where my childhood friends had left their spirits behind; our collective end goal was to reunite in the clouds after fully living our fantasy. I never expected that July 3rd and October 9th of 2023 would be days when my dream team split up forever. The scar I obtained from these recent events fills my heart with endless distress and shapes my view of how important it is to love in the present.
I received the news that my friend was one of the five kids in the vehicle that had crashed a couple of blocks away from my house. Daniel was a friend of mine who always knew how to change the mood of the room no matter what it was. His smile and laughter were contagious, but his big heart made him different from the rest.
He knew what anyone needed and always offered to give, never take. Daniel was a great example of taking life day by day, and because of how great a friend he was, I am honored to pursue the way he viewed life; making progress slowly and carefully by dealing with each day as it comes.
As the rain stopped pouring and the sun became more visible, the curse struck again on October 9th. My friend, Adam, left me before we could bring our dreams to life. Before he passed, together we grieved about Daniel to help heal one another. My dear friend Adam was a clear example of putting others before himself. He showed empathy towards me and for those reasons I am honored to carry out his vision of the world. Not only allowing myself to feel for someone else but also taking the time to understand where they are coming from. Shaping me to become a more empathetic person is now my priority.
Through these trying times I was able to remain focused and apply my scars academically. These events evoked a drive and created a hunger to move on toward the next step and come closer to the dream my friends and I once shared. Even though we had our differences on the academic route, I know that somewhere in the clouds they’re cheering me on to live the life we once dreamed. July 3rd and October 9th reminded me of the importance of love and appreciation in today's day, cherishing the bonds we forge with others.
I am excited to start the next step toward my career goal, of becoming an architect. I know becoming an architect would make both Daniel and Adam proud because they know how much this dream means to me. Completing this dream will shine a light on the myth and lift the curse to show the importance of choosing the route for me. My friends' belief in education caused them to receive limited options and impacted the life they chose. My academic route will provide me with opportunities and grant me the ability to become a better me.
