Bio

I'm currently looking forward to the end of early college high school alongside an Associate of Arts in Teaching with big plans for the future. My main life objective right now is to pursue my calling and become a nurse in the medical industry. As I continue this path, my end goal is to combine my love of seeing the world with my philanthropy into a prospective career path of becoming a traveling nurse. I have agreed to enroll in the University of St. Thomas (Houston) BSN program with a merit-based scholarship in order to be near my family and community. Having both parents who worked in education, with one being a Navy veteran, gave me two supportive separate households. Experiential learning was always encouraged alongside flourishing curiosity. The Alvarez side of the family is very dear to me, and I'm carrying on the family tradition of being a member of the illustrious LULAC Council 60 (4th generation). I will be proud to be the second generation to attend college and the first woman in my family to graduate from a prestigious institution.

    MexiDreams Scholarship
Throughout my life, I’ve learned that my family’s history was not just about the things they left behind but the lessons embedded in those memories. Each one a unanimous living testament to the resilience and sacrifices of our Mexican community. As the first woman in my immediate family to have the opportunity to attend a prestigious university, I carry with me not only their hopes and dreams but also the responsibility to honor their legacy. One of those legacies most influential to my pursuit of higher education is that of my grandmother, a girl who loved school but was forced by her father to drop out of school at the end of her eighth-grade year to take care of her “domestic” duties. Her struggles and eventual triumph in obtaining a GED after years of motherhood emphasized the persistence and strengths found in my ancestry, especially the women. Being part of a Mexican family who passed down these stories instead of letting them be lost to time has inspired a deep calling to the medical field, where I can make a tangible difference in the lives of those underserved and overlooked, like my grandmother once was. Scholarship support is vital to making my dreams a reality as I enter university as a full-time student with the added weight of tracking my father’s progressive vision loss while living with him. The financial and emotional strain of attending a BSN program while helping my father could otherwise limit my ability to focus on clinical trials or fully immerse myself in the experience. With the help of scholarship aid in nursing school, I aspire to contribute to a healthcare system that serves everyone equitably, regardless of background or borders. By achieving my goals, I am walking through the door and extending a hand to lift up future generations. This is how I will proudly honor my Mexican heritage.
