Leadership is a concept that has been discussed, debated, and studied extensively for centuries. It is a complex and multifaceted term that encompasses various qualities and attributes that allow an individual to influence and guide others toward a common goal. In essence, leadership is the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead people toward achieving a shared vision. To me, leadership is more than just a position or a title; it is a mindset and a set of values that guide an individual's behavior and actions. In my view, a leader is someone who has a clear understanding of their goals and objectives, and who can communicate them effectively to others. A leader is also someone who can inspire and motivate people to work towards achieving those goals. Furthermore, a leader is someone who is willing to take responsibility for their actions, and who is accountable for the outcomes of their decisions. Leadership is important for several reasons. Firstly, leadership is essential for the success of any organization or group. Whether it is a small team or a large corporation, effective leadership is crucial in ensuring that everyone is working towards the same goal. A leader is responsible for setting the direction and tone of the group, and for creating a culture of collaboration, communication, and innovation. Without leadership, a group may lack direction, and members may be unclear about what they are working towards. Secondly, leadership is important because it helps to build trust and respect within a group. A good leader is someone who is honest, transparent, and authentic. They are someone who listens to others, values their opinions, and are open to feedback. A leader who embodies these qualities is more likely to earn the trust and respect of their team, which can lead to greater cohesion and a stronger sense of camaraderie. Thirdly, leadership is important because it promotes personal growth and development. A leader is someone who encourages and supports team members to develop their skills and abilities. They provide growth opportunities, and they are willing to mentor and guide others. Through leadership, individuals can learn new skills, take on new challenges, and develop their potential. In conclusion, leadership is a complex and multifaceted concept that is essential for the success of any organization or group. To me, leadership is about having a clear vision, inspiring others, and taking responsibility for one's actions. It is also about building trust and respect, promoting personal growth, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Effective leadership can lead to increased productivity, improved morale, and greater satisfaction among team members. Therefore, individuals need to develop their leadership skills, and for organizations to invest in leadership development programs.
    Healthy Eating Scholarship
My health journey has been a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, but I am proud to say that I have made significant changes to my lifestyle to be more healthy. It all started with a wake-up call when I had a health scare a few years ago. I realized that I needed to take control of my health and make some changes if I wanted to live a long and healthy life. The first change I made was to my diet. I realized that I was consuming way too much processed food and sugar, which was taking a toll on my health. I started by eliminating sugary drinks and junk food from my diet and replacing them with whole, nutrient-dense foods. I began to focus on eating more fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and healthy fats. I also started to cook more at home, which allowed me to control the ingredients and portion sizes of my meals. In addition to changing my diet, I also started to incorporate more physical activity into my daily routine. I began by walking for 30 minutes every day and gradually increased the intensity and duration of my workouts. I also started to incorporate strength training and yoga into my routine, which helped me to build muscle and improve my flexibility. Another change I made was to my sleep habits. I realized that I was not getting enough sleep and that it was affecting my health and well-being. I started to prioritize my sleep by creating a bedtime routine and sticking to a consistent sleep schedule. I also made changes to my environment, such as keeping my bedroom cool, dark, and quiet, to promote better sleep. Lastly, I focused on reducing stress in my life. I realized that stress was affecting my physical and mental health, so I started to incorporate stress-reducing practices into my daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing, and spending time in nature. I also made changes to my work-life balance, such as setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care. Overall, my health journey has been a challenging but rewarding experience. I have learned that small changes can have a big impact on my health and well-being. By focusing on my diet, physical activity, sleep, and stress management, I have been able to improve my overall health and quality of life. I still have a long way to go, but I am committed to continuing to make positive changes and living a healthy, fulfilling life.

    Pool Family LGBT+ Scholarship
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I can say that it has been both a challenging and liberating experience. Coming out and embracing my true identity was a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and self-love. It was not always easy, but it was worth it. Growing up, I felt like I was different from my peers. I struggled with understanding and accepting my feelings and attractions. It was not until I was in my teenage years that I began to understand and accept that I was gay. At first, I was scared to tell anyone, fearing rejection and discrimination. It was not until I found a supportive and accepting community that I was able to fully embrace my identity and be proud of who I am. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community has allowed me to connect with people who have similar experiences and struggles. It has provided me with a sense of belonging and support. However, it has also exposed me to the harsh realities of discrimination and homophobia. Despite the progress that has been made in terms of LGBTQ+ rights, there is still a long way to go. Discrimination, hate crimes, and social stigma continue to be a problem for many members of the community. In terms of my career goals and aspirations, I hope to make a positive impact in the world by advocating for diversity, inclusion, and equality. I want to work towards creating a world where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is treated with respect and dignity. I aspire to work in a field that allows me to make a difference in people's lives, whether it is in education, activism, or advocacy. Ultimately, my goal is to live a fulfilling life, one where I can be true to myself and make a positive difference in the world. I want to continue to learn and grow and be a part of a community that celebrates diversity and empowers individuals to be their authentic selves.

Mental health is an integral aspect of our overall well-being, yet it remains a taboo topic in many cultures. As a black woman, I have noticed that in the black community, mental health has not been viewed as detrimental as it is. My experience with mental health has been one that has shaped my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. It has led me to advocate for better mental health education and support and has influenced my career path toward a profession that helps people with mental health issues. As a teenager, I experienced severe anxiety and depression that impacted my daily life. I found it challenging to concentrate on schoolwork, and I struggled to maintain relationships with friends and family. My experiences with mental health challenges have led me to believe that it is vital to prioritize mental health and that mental health should be discussed more openly in society. I have come to realize that many people suffer in silence due to the stigma associated with mental health, and it is essential to break down those barriers. In my relationships, my experience with mental health has taught me the importance of empathy and understanding. I have learned to be more patient with others and to be mindful of their experiences. I have also become more vocal about my struggles with mental health, and this has helped me to connect with others who have similar experiences. Through these connections, I have found a sense of community and support that has been invaluable in my journey toward better mental health. My experience with mental health has also influenced my career aspirations. I have always been interested in the helping professions, and my experience has reinforced my desire to work in a field that addresses mental health issues. I am currently pursuing a degree in psychology intending to become a licensed therapist. I want to help people who are struggling with mental health challenges, and I believe that my experiences will enable me to be a more effective therapist. In conclusion, my experience with mental health has had a significant impact on my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. It has taught me the importance of prioritizing mental health, being empathetic and understanding toward others, and advocating for better mental health education and support. As I move forward in my life, I will continue to use my experiences to inform my actions and to work toward a society that values mental health as much as physical health.

The African American community has faced a variety of challenges throughout history, including systemic racism, inequality, and injustices. While progress has been made, there is still much work to be done to create a society that is truly equal and just for all. One issue that is affecting the African American community that I would like to see changed is the racial wealth gap. The racial wealth gap refers to the difference in wealth between white and Black Americans. This gap is vast and has persisted for generations. According to a 2020 report by the Brookings Institution, the median white family has a net worth of $171,000, while the median Black family has a net worth of just $17,150. This gap has far-reaching impacts, including lower levels of homeownership, reduced access to education and job opportunities, and decreased economic mobility. To address the racial wealth gap, I would take several steps. First, I would work to raise awareness of the issue by starting conversations with family, friends, and community members. This would involve sharing information about the causes and impacts of the racial wealth gap, as well as the ways in which it perpetuates systemic racism and inequality. Next, I would support policies and initiatives that aim to address the racial wealth gap. This could include advocating for increased funding for historically Black colleges and universities, supporting efforts to expand access to affordable housing, and working to increase access to financial literacy and education. In addition to supporting policy initiatives, I would also work to address the issue through community engagement and outreach. This could involve partnering with local organizations to provide mentorship and support to young people in the African American community, creating job training programs and networking opportunities, and providing resources and support to Black-owned businesses. Finally, I would work to support and amplify the voices of Black leaders and activists who are working to address the issue of the racial wealth gap. This could involve sharing their stories and perspectives through social media and other channels, attending and supporting their events and initiatives, and providing financial and other forms of support. In conclusion, the racial wealth gap is a significant issue affecting the African American community that requires urgent attention and action. By raising awareness, supporting policy initiatives, engaging with the community, and amplifying the voices of Black leaders and activists, we can work to create positive change and build a more just and equitable society for all.

The universe is a vast and complex system that has fascinated humans for centuries. It contains countless mysteries and wonders, from the behavior of subatomic particles to the structure of galaxies. Therefore, we must work to better understand the nature of our universe, not just for scientific advancement, but for the betterment of humanity as a whole. One of the main reasons why it is essential to study the universe is to gain a better understanding of our place in it. We are a small part of a vast system, and by studying it, we can gain insight into our origins, our evolution, and our future. Additionally, studying the universe helps us to develop new technologies, which can be used to address challenges on Earth, such as climate change, resource depletion, and healthcare. To better understand the nature of the universe, we must employ a variety of concepts and ideas. One such concept is the scientific method, which involves observation, hypothesis formation, experimentation, and analysis. By using this method, scientists can develop new theories and models to explain the behavior of the universe. Another important idea is the use of mathematics in understanding the universe. Mathematics is a universal language that can be used to describe the behavior of everything from subatomic particles to the movement of galaxies. Additionally, interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial to understanding the universe. Scientists from various fields, such as physics, astronomy, chemistry, and biology, must work together to develop a comprehensive understanding of the universe. By sharing their knowledge and expertise, they can develop new ideas and theories that may not have been possible through individual research. Finally, technological advancements have also played a significant role in understanding the universe. The development of new telescopes, sensors, and other equipment have allowed scientists to observe and study the universe in greater detail. The use of computer simulations has also allowed scientists to model complex systems, such as the behavior of galaxies, and make predictions about their behavior. In conclusion, we must continue to work to better understand our universe. By gaining a better understanding of the universe, we can gain insight into our origins, our evolution, and our future. Additionally, studying the universe helps us to develop new technologies and address challenges on Earth. I hope some of the concepts that I have written about will help humans better understand our universe, but until then all we can do is hope.

One of my passions is music. I have been playing the piano since I was six years old, and it has always been a source of joy and comfort for me. When I sit down at the piano, I can lose myself in the music and forget about everything else for a while. It's a form of therapy for me, and it helps me to cope with my mental illness. Though I am not the best pianist, I am self-taught and it brings me joy whenever I am in a dark place mentally. Aside from the piano, I love to sing. It has been another one of my biggest passions and anyone who knows me knows that I will be singing at any given moment in time. I have struggled with anxiety and depression for most of my life. It can be difficult to manage at times, but I have found that music is one of the most effective coping mechanisms for me. Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed or anxious, I turn to singing or playing the piano. Music allows me to express my emotions healthily and productively, and it helps me to find a sense of peace and calm. In addition to music, I have also found that exercise and mindfulness practices help manage my mental illness. I try to exercise regularly, whether it's going for a run or doing yoga, and I find that it helps to reduce my stress levels and improve my mood. I also try to practice meditation and deep breathing exercises, which help me to stay present and focused and manage my anxiety. Looking to the future, one of my goals is to effectively overcome my anxiety and depression. Though I am in school for Journalism, one of my secret passions would be to become a music therapist. I believe that music can be a powerful tool for healing and emotional expression, and I would love to help others find the same sense of peace and comfort that I have found in music. I also hope to continue to develop my musical skills, and to one day perform in front of large audiences. Ultimately, my aspiration for the future is to lead a happy and fulfilling life, with a career that allows me to make a positive impact in the world. While managing my mental illness can be challenging at times, I am confident that with the right tools and support, I can achieve my goals and live a life that is full of joy, passion, and purpose.
    Novitas Diverse Voices Scholarship
The power of diverse voices in public relations can have a significant impact on shaping public narratives. Public relations, at its core, is about communicating with diverse audiences and helping organizations develop positive relationships with their stakeholders. By bringing diverse voices to the table, public relations professionals can ensure that a variety of perspectives are taken into account and that public narratives are more inclusive and reflective of the communities they represent. As a black woman myself, I believe that more diverse voices are essential to the ever-changing country that is the United States of America. One of the key ways in which diverse voices can impact public relations is by bringing different perspectives to the table. This can help organizations develop more nuanced and thoughtful approaches to their communication strategies, and can ensure that they are addressing the needs and concerns of all their stakeholders. For example, by including diverse voices in the development of a messaging strategy, an organization can better understand the needs of different communities and can tailor their messaging to be more inclusive and effective. In addition, the power of diverse voices in public relations can help to counteract biases and stereotypes in public narratives. By including diverse voices in the development of messaging strategies and communication plans, organizations can work to ensure that their messages are not perpetuating harmful stereotypes or excluding important voices. This can help to build trust and credibility with diverse audiences and can create more positive public narratives that are reflective of the communities they represent. Furthermore, the power of diverse voices in public relations can help to amplify important messages and issues. By bringing diverse perspectives to the table, public relations professionals can identify key issues and trends that are important to different communities and can help to elevate those issues in the public discourse. This can help to build awareness and support for important causes and can contribute to positive change in society. Diversity is becoming more present in our world today but is not as present as it should be. In conclusion, the power of diverse voices in public relations is significant and can have a profound impact on shaping public narratives. By bringing different perspectives to the table, countering biases and stereotypes, and amplifying important messages and issues, public relations professionals can ensure that their communications are inclusive, effective, and reflective of the diverse communities they represent.

I was 14 when I got high for the first time. I was in middle school, a very traumatic time in my life. My best friend and I overheard that taking a whole bunch of cold medicine at once can make you feel good, so I thought why not? We walked with an excited pace down the street to our local Walmart and decided to pocket the Nyquil pills. That night we took a couple and waited to see what happened. We didn't know what signs to look for to indicate that we were high, but I remember feeling an almost out-of-body experience. It was scary, but we liked it. That year was a year of exploration, we tried Oxy, more random pills, and Xanax. I had always watched Youtube videos warning others about how addiction can sneak up on you, but I thought I could control myself, I thought I was different. It started as innocent fun, but it morphed into needing to get high to have fun. The same friend and I stole Oxycodone from her mom's medicine cabinet, trying to chase a better high. Taking Oxy was one of the worst decisions in my life, but a moment that I am thankful to learn from. At the time I believed that I was addicted, that I could stop at any time and that life would continue as normal, but I was in over my head. I was too busy getting high to notice that my grades were dropping, my parents were unhappy, and I was distancing myself away from any other friends I knew. I felt so overwhelmed by daily life that I had to take something to give me a break from the stress and chaos that was the world. I look back at that time in my life and I see a little wounded bird in a cage made of thorns, too afraid to break out of the prison cell. So I kept myself there and self-medicated. The same year I was introduced to Xanax and being the naive teen I was, I took it in my 5th-period class. I remember we had a test that day and as soon as I sat down in my seat, I blacked out. To this day I still don't remember how I finished my test, what happened after, and how I made it home. My parents never found out. I didn't like that I had no control over my mind and my body, so I took that as a wake-up call. I eventually stopped taking pills a few months after that, after my mom had noticed that I was self-harming. I had started to go through therapy, which had helped immensely, and slowly began to get my life back on track. The once-wounded young bird was finally able to break free from the thorned trap she made for herself.
    Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
As a kid growing up, I always had performance anxiety. The feeling of many eyes staring at me whenever I had to present a project or ask a question in class was too much to handle. In middle school, this anxiety doubled due to the trauma that I had gone through. Throughout seventh and eighth grade I had begun to lose myself. I had been getting C's and D's instead of my normal A's and B's, I had started to abuse certain substances, and I started hanging out with the wrong crowd. In ninth grade, I had a wake-up call. My mom found out that I had self-harmed and was suicidal and she had an intervention for me. I knew that high school would be a new beginning that would bring new possibilities, so I wanted to change for the better. I wanted to start the year with something easy, I wanted to feel as if I was contributing to a bigger cause, so I decided to join a writing club and the Freshman student body. In the beginning, I felt like I was an imposter. I didn't know what I was doing or anyone in the clubs I was in, but I know that I did not want to give up. I started to write more and develop a love for poetry while becoming a more valued member of the student body. I felt as if I had importance, something that I hadn't felt in a long time. In 10th grade I wanted to try something new, so I decided to join Cross Country. I had no clue what I was getting into, but I hadn't been in a sport since 6th grade and I wanted to try it out. I ended up loving cross country and made so many new friends that year. I started to grow more confident and I auditioned for the school talent show and managed to get the part. This year was filled with many firsts that pushed me out of my shell. Then in eleventh grade, my parents told me that we were moving to Germany. I was excited but very scared, I knew no one and being halfway through high school I felt as if I wouldn't be able to make new connections. I felt myself retracting back into the shell that I knew so well, scared that no one would accept me for who I am. Eleventh grade began and I met many amazing people, some of that made my anxiety almost non-existent. In my last two years of high school, I wanted to go out with a bang. I rejoined cross country, I joined theatre, and I started volunteering at the Children Youth Services. I started to focus on my grades more and I graduated with a 3.8 GPA with honors in Theatre. Anxiety can feel overwhelming, it can take over a person's life completely. I felt as if I would never be able to break free from its clutches, but all it took was a yearning for more and the will to embrace the uncomfortable.
