Even at a young age, I’ve had a passion for literature, and now that I’m older, I’ve been dedicating much time to fulfilling my dreams of creating vital literary pieces. Although there’s a long road ahead in terms of my career journey, my perseverance enables me to see the bigger picture. I have grown my craft over the years and aspire to instill faith within society while stimulating the minds of many. Additionally, my experiences from participating in the Duke University Young Writers’ program in 2018 and writing for "The County News," in the past provided me with a strengthened skill set and outstanding learning opportunities. Currently, I’m an English student at North Carolina A&T, striving to touch the minds and hearts of those around the world with my work. That being said, I would be a splendid candidate for any potential scholarship, as I’m sowed into a profession that creates substantial influence while looking toward the future.

WinnerWhat does it mean to dream? To be able to dream is an opportunity to envision the wondrous possibilities of life. To dream is a beautiful experience that encourages all aspects of one’s aspirations and hopes to be pursued. To dream is to create a universe of one’s own. To me, dreams are part of what keeps us afloat and motivated. To dream is to wonder – to live – and to inspire. Like dreaming, reading has been my escape from reality, enabling my imagination to flourish past life’s limitations and struggles. Growing up, I could always rely on a good book to transport my mind and body to a whole ‘nother world of promising potential. Reading is an exceptional experience that takes the reader on an adventure while exposing them to bigger and better concepts. My unshakable love for reading has been with me since I was a young child and it’s only grown stronger since then. Nowadays, I’m not only an avid reader but also a creator of literary pieces that I’ve produced to induce individuals to strive for a difference in the world. And considering the brimming social issues, I’ve decided to further my education while devoting myself to a writing career, which is destined to supply the world a chance in continuing to dream despite its issues.
The world today is burdened with many adversities. We live in a time when people endure and witness the cruelty and disorder of their society. As a country, we have continuously witnessed or experienced the same horrors to such a degree that we are now normalizing them and becoming desensitized. I’ve seen many who are no longer willing to fight for change or have hope. Instead, countless demoralized, tired, and traumatized individuals have accepted defeat. And because of this, I fear the darkness in the world will one day overpower anything and all that’s good – like dreamers. Those who dream have the incentive to influence the world. They bring a vision of hope that persuades themselves and others to achieve it while looking toward the future. A world without dreamers is a world without possibility.
My faith in the restoration of this world has wavered more than I can remember. Unfortunately, people, myself included, can stomach the harsh events while pushing on with our lives. It’s awful how sometimes I’ve enabled myself to become complacent with the wrongdoings of others. And with me being Black in America, I’m more than acquainted with the ugly side of this country, which makes future instances less shocking. Growing up in a world that often spewed negativity and enforced limitations against myself and people of color swayed me into believing that my efforts of achieving greater were pointless. I thought there wasn’t a way for me to succeed in a world that constantly looked down on people like me. But with the help of some great books, I was granted the freedom to wonder, motivating me to push on despite all the bad.
Life can be devastating. It’s understandable why people give in to the mounting world issues. But it’s important to remember that no matter the obstacle or how hopeless the world may look, there’s always a way. Always dream; because dreaming is the key to a better future. And to ensure the world has the opportunity to thrive, I plan to utilize my writing career to instill faith in humanity and promote unity and change.

I Can Do Anything Scholarship
My dream and eventual reality is to have confidence in my career – so that I can fulfill my life goals, such as having a successful writing career, having a positive impact on the world, and establishing financial stability for myself and my family.
Stacy T. Mosley Jr. Educational Scholarship
It began with a single book; a children’s book so captivating that I now aspire to create something of my own. I’d read heaps of books at a very young age. Bringing a new book home almost every day to then completing it that night. My love for reading has forever been apparent, but I never would’ve envisioned a young girl’s passion for reading progressing into something far greater. Eventually, from those late-night and early-morning readings, I developed a strong enjoyment and an inexplicable knack for writing. Similar to reading, to me, writing is an escape from reality. An alleviating getaway from nearly all life’s toughest battles. It’s something that enables full expression while simultaneously delving into another universe of possibilities. Writing is a whole new world that provided me a chance to find my voice and communicate my opinions, thoughts, concerns, and much more. And in a world heaving with adversities, I’ve found a calling that not only fulfills my joys but also works to supply the world with beauty, hope, restoration, and peace. That said, I’ve decided to further my education to gain additional knowledge and nurturing experiences for my writing craft and skill set, which will aid in my future career goals.
It took some time before realizing what I genuinely wanted out of a writing career. At first, it was simply to fabricate a world where people could forget their worries, but now it’s much more than that. As I got older and became more aware of the negativity in the world, the meaning and purpose behind my career choice shifted. Recognizing that this nation is overwhelmed and somewhat at a standstill with itself has motivated me, even more, to fully commit to my education and career choice. Part of my aspirations within my career resides in producing literary pieces that foster people’s minds while instilling faith in the world once more. And because the power of literature is influential and inspirational, I determined my writing could be utilized to benefit others near and far. The need for improvement in society is urgent, and my way of contributing stems from passion.
As difficult as college can be, I’m glad that I devoted myself to furthering my education, as it provides a variety of opportunities and experiences that go a long way for the future of my career and the world. I’m able to grow in confidence as both a writer and an individual. So far, this decision has enhanced my knowledge of the world around me, which is vital to my understanding of how to combat world issues we endure. And with the aid of this scholarship and the studies I’m receiving at North Carolina A&T, I’ll be able to support my education and become a step closer to accomplishing my career goal of a society where people of hope and dreams don't cease to exist.
