Being a first-generation college student can be a daunting experience. There are many new challenges and obstacles to overcome that may not be apparent to those who have grown up in families where higher education is the norm. However, for me, I have been fortunate enough to have a younger sister who has been a constant source of encouragement and support throughout my college journey.
From a young age, my sister has always been interested in my education and the various academic pursuits that I undertake. She often asks me about my classes, homework, and tests, and motivates me to keep pushing forward. Even though she is still in high school, she has a deep appreciation for the value of education and understands the importance of setting academic goals for oneself.
One of the most significant ways in which my younger sister has encouraged me is by attending my college events and ceremonies. She has come to my graduation and award ceremonies, showing her unwavering support and pride in my academic achievements. Seeing her smile and hearing her cheer for me has been a tremendous morale boost, especially when I have felt discouraged or uncertain about my path in college.
In addition to her attendance at my college-related events, my sister has also been instrumental in helping me stay organized and motivated. She has gone out of her way to remind me of upcoming assignments and tests and even helped me create study schedules and flashcards. Her enthusiasm and dedication to my success have been a driving force in keeping me focused and motivated.
Lastly, my younger sister has served as a role model for me in many respects. She is driven, dedicated, and committed to excelling in her own academic pursuits. Seeing her tenacity and resilience in the face of challenges has reminded me of the importance of perseverance and hard work. Her unwavering support and encouragement have not only helped me in my academic journey but also given me the confidence to pursue my future goals.
In conclusion, my younger sister has played an integral role in encouraging and supporting me as a first-generation college student. Her enthusiasm, dedication, and unwavering support have given me the confidence to pursue my academic goals and overcome the many obstacles that have come my way. Her presence in my life has made my college journey more meaningful and rewarding, and I am forever grateful for her love and support.

The conversation surrounding gun violence in America has been a hotly debated topic for decades. Mass shootings, homicides, and suicides have become too frequent and devastating events that take place in our communities. To start any process of change, a conversation is absolutely necessary. Speech enables one to inform, educate, and move people to action.
Speech can be used to bring attention to the problem through personal anecdotes, statistics, facts, and imagery to show the extent of the problem. Gun violence does not only affect those who are directly impacted but also the broader society as a whole. You can highlight how communities are torn apart from the loss of lives, and how such acts perpetuate a cycle of violence. Speech gives a voice to those who have been silenced by gun violence and can bridge the gap between those who are for or against gun control laws.
Speech can also be used to advocate for change. Advocacy includes speaking up for those who can't speak for themselves and bringing change to how issues are viewed and addressed. Through oration, one can call for more regulations to ensure that firearms don't fall into the wrong hands. Speech can help bring attention to the mental health needs of individuals and highlight the importance of treating mental illnesses before they become violent. Through speaking up for changes in the legislation, it’s possible to influence lawmakers' decisions and shape laws that promote safety and security for all citizens.
The media also has a significant role to play in gun violence, and speech can be used to bring them on board. Attend press conferences, write op-eds, and take part in interviews with journalists to bring visibility to the issue. Media attention can help bring awareness to the extent of the problem, educate and influence the public on the importance of the issue, and ultimately change people's attitudes, behaviors, and actions.
In conclusion, speech is a powerful tool that can be used to bring awareness to gun violence. Through speeches, personal anecdotes, statistics, advocacy, and media attention, we can move the conversation forward. Speech encourages us to listen to the voices of those who have been impacted, understand the issue better, and call for change. The more we speak up, the more we can engage and empower communities to demand action from lawmakers to ensure that gun violence is not a permanent fixture in our society.
Hilliard L. "Tack" Gibbs Jr. Memorial Scholarship
As a child, I was always fascinated by the complexity of the human mind, specifically the psychology of children. After completing high school, I realized that the only way for me to become a child psychologist was to obtain a college degree. I quickly found out that the cost of tuition was high, and my family could not afford it. However, I'm determined not to let my financial situation stand in the way of achieving my dreams. I believe that a scholarship can help me to afford to become a child psychologist.
Firstly, a scholarship can help me to cover the cost of tuition, which I could not afford. Without a scholarship, I would have to settle for a lower-tier college or, worse, not attend college at all. However, with a scholarship, I would have the opportunity to attend the college of my choice and secure a high-quality degree.
Secondly, as a child psychologist, I will need to attend graduate school as well to have a deep understanding of children's mental health. Graduate school can be costly, much more than undergraduate studies. However, with a scholarship, I can pay for my graduate school and acquire the necessary skills that will reinforce my position as a child psychologist. Furthermore, a scholarship would not only provide financial assistance but also recognition for my academic achievements. It would be an honor to receive a scholarship and would motivate me to work harder toward my goals. Additionally, being a scholarship recipient would open up opportunities for networking and connecting with other professionals in my field, which could lead to potential job offers or collaborations in the future.
Thirdly, scholarships can also aid in paying other expenses such as accommodation, transportation, and books, among others. As a child psychologist, I would have to carry out research, and books and research resources can be expensive. Hence, having a scholarship would help me to offset some of these expenses and help me to focus more on my studies without worrying about bills piling up.
Fourthly, a scholarship can increase my chances of getting a job after completing my studies. It can demonstrate my hard work and dedication to child psychology, making me a more attractive candidate to future employers.
In conclusion, a scholarship will be substantial in my endeavor to become a child psychologist. Without one, I may never be able to afford tuition, let alone graduate school. Additionally, it will help me to pay for other expenses such as accommodation and textbooks. I believe that scholarships are a great way to level the playing field, allowing students who do not come from affluent backgrounds to obtain higher education and pursue their passion.

Living with a chronic illness can be challenging, but adversity can fuel one's motivation to excel academically. My own experience with a chronic illness has pushed me to pursue academic excellence in new ways and pushed me to develop coping techniques that have helped me achieve my goals.
One of the benefits of living with a chronic illness is the increased capacity for empathy and self-reflection that often comes with this experience. I have found that my struggles have allowed me to approach my academic work with greater sensitivity and critical curiosity. In other words, my chronic illness has been a catalyst for intellectual and emotional growth, motivating me to seek out new knowledge and understanding in my academic pursuits.
Additionally, having a chronic illness has taught me the importance of discipline and prioritization. Managing symptoms, staying on top of medications, and navigating medical appointments can be time-consuming and confusing. However, these challenges have also allowed me to develop a strong sense of discipline and time management, skills that have translated well into my academic life. I have learned to prioritize my assignments and commitments and to focus on the most important tasks first, allowing me to excel in my studies even when my health is not at its best.
Despite the challenges associated with living with a chronic illness, this experience has also taught me the importance of remaining flexible and adaptable. My illness has forced me to be nimble and to embrace change, traits that have served me well in my academic pursuits. Learning to navigate the shifting demands and expectations of academia requires resilience, creativity, and a willingness to take risks - all skills that are inherent in a life with a chronic illness.
Finally, living with a chronic illness has taught me that academic success is not just about grades or test scores but about developing a broader sense of purpose and meaning. For me, the pursuit of academic excellence is not just about earning good grades, but about using my education as a platform for making a positive impact in the world. The challenges of my illness have pushed me to seek opportunities to help others and to use my academic skills to bring about positive change, both inside and outside the classroom.
In conclusion, living with a chronic illness is not easy, but it can be a catalyst for academic and personal growth. My experience has pushed me to develop important skills such as empathy, discipline, adaptability, and resilience, skills that have helped me excel in my academic pursuits. Above all, my illness has taught me the importance of using my education to make a positive impact in the world, a goal that continues to motivate me to seek out new challenges and opportunities for learning and growth.

Dyslexia is a language learning disorder that impacts an individual's reading, writing, and spelling skills. It is a neurological condition that affects 10% of the population, making it a prevalent disorder worldwide. For dyslexic individuals, education is a challenging experience, especially at higher levels.
In my case, dyslexia has had a considerable impact on my higher-level education. The process of comprehending complex text and retaining information requires sustained focus and concentration. I have difficulties with short-term memory retrieval and maintaining attention to detail, leading to slower processing of information. This condition has significantly impacted my academic performance, leaving me behind in my studies. As someone with dyslexia, I have faced numerous challenges in my academic journey. One of the most significant obstacles has been my struggle to comprehend complex text and retain information. Despite my best efforts, I often find myself struggling to maintain focus and concentration, which has led to slower processing of information and difficulty in retaining key concepts. This has had a profound impact on my academic performance, leaving me feeling frustrated and discouraged.
Another significant effect of dyslexia in higher-level education is the struggle to develop a comprehensive understanding of text. Despite my efforts to read and comprehend books, journals, or scholarly articles, my inability to recognize and decode words and sentences with ease has been an obstacle. This has led to a limited understanding of the content taught in lectures and ultimately affected my overall academic performance. Furthermore, dyslexia can also impact an individual's ability to organize and express their thoughts in writing. The struggle to spell words correctly and construct grammatically correct sentences can lead to frustration and anxiety. This can be particularly challenging in higher-level education where writing assignments are more complex and require a higher level of proficiency. As a result, individuals with dyslexia may avoid writing tasks altogether, further hindering their academic progress.
In addition to academic performance, social integration has been a struggle for individuals with dyslexia. Reading difficulties and speech processing hinder communication, making it harder to form and maintain meaningful relationships. Social deprivation often leads to feelings of isolation and a lack of support, which are detrimental to the overall well-being of an individual.
Though dyslexia has had adverse effects on my higher-level education, I have actively sought solutions. With the assistance of special education services, accommodations such as extended exam time, electronic books, and other technologies have aided in mitigating the effects of the disorder. Proper care has played a significant role in enabling me to succeed in my academic endeavors.
In conclusion, dyslexia has impacted every aspect of higher-level education, from comprehension and recall to social integration. This disorder requires specialized care and attention from educational institutions and support services to help impacted individuals succeed academically and enjoy holistic well-being. Through a sensitive collaboration between learners, institutions, and specialist providers, individuals with dyslexia can leverage support resources to achieve academic success and personal fulfillment.

Mental illness is an invisible yet debilitating condition that affects the lives of millions of people worldwide. For me, it was something that hit close to home when my family member was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Witnessing their struggles with mood swings, anxiety, and social isolation made me realize the value of mental health care and the need for greater public awareness. I wanted to understand the science behind mental disorders and explore ways to alleviate human suffering, culminating in my decision to major in psychology. Through my studies, I have come to understand the importance of destigmatizing mental illness and promoting access to mental health resources. I have also developed a passion for advocating for those who are struggling with mental health issues and hope to use my education to make a positive impact in the field. Overall, my experience in psychology has not only deepened my understanding of the human mind but has also inspired me to pursue a career in mental health care.
Studying psychology has been a transformative experience for me, both personally and professionally. I have learned about the complex interplay of brain function, environmental factors, and social norms that contribute to mental illness and shape our mental well-being. I have also engaged in hands-on research projects that have allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, such as designing interventions for depression, addiction, and PTSD. These experiences have given me a unique perspective on the challenges facing mental health patients and the opportunities for innovation in the field of psychology. As I continue my studies in psychology, I am eager to explore new avenues for promoting mental health and well-being. I am particularly interested in the role of technology in mental health care, and I hope to contribute to developing innovative tools and interventions that can improve patient outcomes. Ultimately, my goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those struggling with mental illness, and I am excited to see where my journey in psychology will take me.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my psychology major has been the opportunity to connect with people who share my passion for mental health advocacy. Through student groups, volunteer work, and internships, I have met countless individuals committed to raising awareness about mental illness, reducing stigma, and promoting access to care. Their stories of resilience, courage, and hope have inspired me to continue pursuing my goals and have taught me that change is possible, one person at a time. As someone who has struggled with mental illness myself, I have found solace in connecting with others who have similar experiences. The support and understanding I have received from these individuals has been invaluable in my own journey towards healing. Through my psychology major, I have gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of mental illness and the importance of destigmatizing it. I am grateful for the opportunity to use my education to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
In conclusion, my experience with mental illness has shaped my academic and personal journey in ways that I never imagined. It has given me a deep appreciation for the human mind and its incredible potential for growth and healing. I hope to use my psychology major to contribute to the advancement of mental health care and to empower others to overcome the challenges of mental illness. With dedication, compassion, and innovation, we can create a world where every person has the opportunity to achieve their full potential and thrive mentally, emotionally, and socially. As someone who has experienced the impact of mental illness firsthand, I understand the importance of accessible and effective mental health care. I believe that by continuing to research and develop new treatments, we can improve the lives of millions of people around the world. Additionally, I am committed to reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness and promoting a culture of understanding and support. Together, we can create a brighter future for those struggling with mental health challenges.

As a child, I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I loved the idea of being able to help people and make them feel better. It wasn't until a few years ago, however, that I realized my true passion lies in child psychology. This realization came after a bad experience with a therapist who left a lasting impact on me.
I was seeing a therapist for anxiety and depression, but the sessions always left me feeling worse than before. I felt like my therapist didn't understand me and didn't take my concerns seriously. I found myself constantly frustrated and discouraged, feeling like there was nowhere to turn for help.
It was during this time that I started researching child psychology and found myself drawn to the idea of helping young people work through their struggles. I knew firsthand how important it was to have someone you could trust and confide in, and I was determined to be that person for others. As I delved deeper into my research, I realized that there were many children out there who were struggling with issues similar to mine. I felt a sense of empathy and compassion for them, and I knew that I had the skills and the passion to help them overcome their challenges. It was a turning point in my life, and I knew that I had found my calling.
I started reading books and articles on child psychology and even started volunteering at a local youth center. The more I learned, the more I knew that this was the career path I wanted to pursue. I wanted to be the person who could make a difference in a child's life, just as I had always wished for growing up.
Today, I am proud to say that I am working towards my degree in child psychology. While my experience with a bad therapist was difficult, it ultimately led me to my true calling. I am grateful for the struggles I went through, as they taught me the importance of being a good therapist and helped me discover my passion for helping children. I am confident that this is the path I was meant to take, and I am excited to see where it takes me in the future. Through my own journey, I have learned that the right therapist can make all the difference in someone's life. I am committed to providing the same level of care and support that I wish I had received during my own difficult times. I am eager to continue growing and learning in my field, and I am excited to make a positive impact on the lives of those I work with.
Academic Liberty & Free Speech Scholarship
Freedom of speech advances college students' intelligence by providing a platform for them to express their opinions, ideas, and thoughts without fear. When students are allowed to speak without censorship, they are more likely to engage in critical thinking, expand their horizons, and gain new perspectives that they might not have considered before. The ability to express oneself is crucial for intellectual development as it helps students to understand the world better and come up with solutions to problems.
Furthermore, freedom of speech provides college students with an opportunity to learn from others. When individuals with diverse backgrounds and opinions engage in dialogue, it fosters an environment of open-mindedness and promotes the exchange of ideas. Students can have productive discussions and debates, which is essential in shaping their beliefs and understanding of the world they live in. Overall, freedom of speech is vital in advancing college students' intelligence as it creates an environment that encourages intellectual growth as students are exposed to different ideas that help them to think critically and develop a broad perspective of the world around them.
Freedom of speech is essential to preserve as it is a fundamental human right that allows individuals to express their thoughts, opinions, and ideas without fear of censorship or persecution. By protecting this right, individuals are enabled to openly discuss important issues, debate differing perspectives and challenge the status quo. Free speech is important for the growth and progress of society, as it allows for new and innovative ideas to be introduced, discussed and analyzed. Without the freedom of speech, our ability to communicate and advocate for things we believe in would be greatly diminished. Therefore, it is essential to preserve freedom of speech as it forms the cornerstone of democracy, promotes tolerance and creates a platform for fair and equal discourse.
As a college debater, I have had the opportunity to engage in articulate and well-researched arguments on sensitive topics, and this experience has helped me understand and appreciate the significance of freedom of speech. Debating has taught me how to present my ideas clearly, without fear of judgment, and this has given me the necessary skills to express myself confidently and respectfully in different situations. Through my experience in college debates, I have concluded that it is only through mutual respect for opposing ideas that we can protect and preserve freedom of speech, and this has made me passionate about promoting this essential value in society.
As a psychology major, I develop a deep understanding of human behavior and mental processes. This knowledge is critical in helping to preserve freedom of speech. In today's world, where opinions can easily be misconstrued and misrepresented, my psychology degree empowers me to accurately analyze situations and people's motives. With a deep understanding of cognitive processes and personality traits, I can identify and address underlying biases and prejudices that may interfere with the quest for freedom of expression. Moreover, my degree equips me with the skills to communicate effectively, listen actively, and engage in meaningful conversations with others. By doing this, I help create an environment where every opinion can be heard and respected. Ultimately, my psychology degree helps me play a role in protecting the basic right to freedom of speech in society.

Mental health plays a vital role in our life, affecting our physical, emotional, and social well-being. For me, a history of anxiety and depression has affected my life in numerous ways. At times, it has hindered my ability to make decisions, participate in social activities or even carry out day-to-day tasks, affecting the quality of my life. Despite the challenges, I have learned to manage my mental health through therapy, medication, and self-care practices. It has been a journey of self-discovery and growth, and I have come to realize that mental health is just as important as physical health. By prioritizing my mental well-being, I have been able to improve my relationships, pursue my passions, and live a more fulfilling life.
The impact of mental health on my life has been significant, leading to the development of several negative thought patterns. I often find myself feeling disconnected from my surroundings, which makes it challenging to interact with people around me. The anxiety and depression have led me to feel like an outsider and have made me doubt myself repeatedly. I have struggled with low self-esteem and a lack of motivation for a long time, and it has affected my ability to make progress in different areas of my life. Despite my struggles, I have been actively seeking help and support. Therapy has been a valuable tool in helping me understand and manage my mental health. I have also been working on building a support system of friends and family who understand and accept me for who I am. While it's still a work in progress, I am hopeful that with time and effort, I can overcome these challenges and live a fulfilling life.
Mental health issues have also made it challenging for me to form and maintain healthy relationships. The anxiety and depression have led me to feel isolated and alone, which has made me avoid initiating contact with loved ones. I have missed out on opportunities to make new friends and have lost touch with some friends and family members that were previously close to me. It is challenging to interact with people when you are struggling with mental health issues. Furthermore, my mental health struggles have affected my ability to maintain a consistent work schedule. There have been days when I have had to call in sick due to my anxiety and depression, which has resulted in a loss of income. It's frustrating to feel like I am not in control of my own life and that my mental health is dictating my actions. I am actively seeking help and support to manage my mental health, but it's a process that takes time and patience.
My mental health struggles have also had a significant impact on my academic performance. I have found it challenging to concentrate and focus on my studies, leading to a decline in my grades. The anxiety and depression have led me to feel overwhelmed, making it hard to manage my time effectively. This has resulted in missing deadlines and not taking part in extracurricular activities that would have helped me develop my skills further. It has been a constant battle to manage my mental health while also trying to excel academically. I have sought help from counselors and therapists, but the journey to recovery is not a linear one. Some days are better than others, and it can be frustrating to feel like I am not making progress. However, I am determined to continue working on my mental health and not let it define me or my future.
In conclusion, the state of my mental health has significantly affected my life over the years. I have struggled with anxiety and depression, leading to negative thought patterns and low self-esteem, making it difficult for me to form and maintain relationships. My academic performance has also been negatively impacted, leading to a decline in my grades due to a lack of concentration and focus. However, it is essential to seek help and support from family, friends or professionals in the mental health field. With time, it is possible to address mental health issues and live a full and productive life. It is important to remember that mental health struggles are common and seeking help is a sign of strength. There are many resources available, such as therapy, medication, and support groups, that can aid in the recovery process. Taking care of one's mental health should be a top priority, as it can greatly impact all aspects of life. Remember, it is never too late to seek help and start the journey toward healing.

The US Constitution is a pivotal document that upholds the fundamental principles of democracy, liberty, and equality. Its provisions grant rights and freedoms to every citizen and offer a framework for the functioning of the country. As a college student, I am passionate about the Constitution because it represents the foundation of the American way of life that has inspired and affected the world in countless positive ways. I believe that every individual should evaluate the Constitution's provisions and contribute to its ongoing enhancement and preservation. Understanding the Constitution is essential to creating a society that is fair and equitable.
As a future child psychologist, my primary focus will be to promote the mental health and well-being of children. However, I am also aware that this cannot happen if children do not have access to vital civil liberties. Therefore, I am committed to fighting for the promotion and protection of civil liberties for children.
My approach to protecting civil liberties begins with advocating for inclusive and equitable policies in childcare centers, schools, and youth-serving organizations. All children deserve access to educational opportunities, and I will fight against policies that undermine this access. I will also encourage policies that promote diversity and inclusion, as these values increase children's sense of belonging and prevent discrimination.
Secondly, I will use my training to detect and report any forms of abuse, exploitation, or discrimination against children. Whether it's a case of child neglect or a violation of a child's rights, I will be vigilant and speak up when necessary. This is not only my legal obligation as a professional but also a moral imperative as a human being.
Furthermore, I will collaborate with other organizations and professionals to make sure that all children, particularly those from marginalized communities, have access to mental health care services. I will advocate for policies that support the provision of culturally responsive therapy and counseling services that cater to the unique needs of each child. I will also fight for policies that recognize the impact of poverty, trauma, and other social determinants of health on children's mental well-being.
In conclusion, civil liberties are essential for children's mental health and well-being. As a future child psychologist, I will fight for civil liberties by advocating for inclusive and equitable policies, detecting and reporting abuse or discrimination against children, and collaborating with other organizations to ensure that all children have access to mental health care services. I am determined to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children, and I will not rest until all children are free to enjoy their full civil liberties.

The passing away of my grandpa who died from Alzheimer's disease had a profound effect on my family. It was a challenging period filled with grief, loss, and the struggle to adapt to the altered dynamics. Alzheimer’s disease gradually takes away a person’s memories, personality, and skills, which was something my family witnessed firsthand. It was a long and hard journey for my loved ones to witness the once lively and jovial man gradually diminishing into a mere shadow of himself.
Before my grandpa's passing, my family was disheartened by the effects of the disease on their dad and grandpa. We had to learn to cope with his forgetfulness and occasional outbursts, which were a result of the disease. As Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, his condition continued to worsen, making it even harder for his close family members. My family felt helpless as they watched him lose his memory and ability to take care of himself.
After my grandpa's passing, my family was faced with the task of mourning and dealing with their loss. Though we knew he was no longer suffering and in a better place, it took us some time to come to terms with the fact that we would no longer see him. My family had to lean on each other for support, creating a bond that was stronger than ever before. During this period, my family became very close, supporting each other throughout the grieving process, and creating an unbreakable bond.
The effect of the death of my grandpa was not only limited to my immediate family. In fact, his passing affected our extended family as well. His brothers, sisters, and friends were all devastated by his death. We went through the process of funeral arrangements together, which allowed us to come together and share fond memories of him. His death reminded us of the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones and making the most of the time we have together.
In conclusion, the death of my grandpa had a profound effect on my family. We faced challenges during his struggle with Alzheimer’s and it was hard watching his condition worsen over time. After his passing, we united together and supported one another, which helped us get through the grieving process. Although his death was difficult, it reminded us of the importance of savoring every moment with our loved ones while also creating a bond that is stronger than ever before.

The growing awareness of climate change and its consequences on the environment and society has led many individuals to take action to reduce their carbon footprint. A carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, that are produced by an individual, organization, or activity. Every aspect of our daily life contributes to our carbon footprint, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear and the transportation we use. In this essay, I will discuss the choices I make to reduce my carbon footprint and minimize my impact on the environment.
One of the most important choices I make to reduce my carbon footprint is to reduce the amount of energy I use. Small changes in everyday routines can make a significant impact on energy consumption. I make sure to switch off lights and unplug electronics when I am not using them. I also use energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances whenever possible. By reducing my energy consumption, I am not only reducing my carbon footprint, but I am also saving money on my electricity bill.
Another choice I make is to reduce my meat consumption. Animal agriculture is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, as livestock produces methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas. By reducing my meat consumption, I am mitigating the negative impact of animal agriculture on the environment. I have also incorporated more plant-based meals into my diet, which promotes a healthy lifestyle while reducing my carbon footprint.
Transportation also plays a vital role in carbon footprint reduction. Choosing public transport or cycling instead of driving a car can significantly reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, I try to consolidate errands to reduce the number of trips I make. If driving is necessary, I choose an energy-efficient vehicle or carpool with others to share the emissions. By reducing my transportation-related emissions, I am playing my part in combating climate change.
Another choice I make is to reduce my water usage. Clean, drinkable water is essential to life, yet many people around the world do not have access to it. By conserving water, I am not only reducing my carbon footprint but also helping to ensure that there is enough water for everyone. I take shorter showers, fix leaks promptly, and water my garden during cooler hours to reduce evaporation. These simple adjustments to my daily routine can have a significant impact on conserving water resources.
In conclusion, reducing our carbon footprint is crucial to combat climate change and protect the environment for future generations. I make conscious choices every day to reduce my carbon footprint, such as reducing energy consumption, reducing meat consumption, choosing sustainable transportation, and conserving water. As individuals, we all have a responsibility to do our part in mitigating climate change. By making small, sustainable changes, I am confident that we can make a collective difference in reducing our carbon footprint and preserving our planet.

"Words on Bathroom Walls" is a novel by Julia Walton that follows the story of Adam, a teenager diagnosed with schizophrenia. The book explores Adam's journey as he navigates high school and his mental illness. Reading this book has taught me several lessons that I will carry with me for a lifetime.
Firstly, I learned about the significance of empathy and the importance of understanding mental illness. Through Adam's story, I was able to grasp the struggles that individuals with schizophrenia go through every day. The book helped me develop a sense of compassion towards those with mental illnesses and recognize the stigma surrounding it. I learned that it is essential to educate ourselves and be supportive of those struggling with mental illnesses.
Another significant lesson that I learned from the book is the power of self-acceptance. Adam is hesitant to embrace his condition, which results in him feeling isolated and alienated from those around him. However, throughout the book, he learns to accept and embrace himself, leading to a significant improvement in his condition. I learned that it is vital to accept oneself entirely, including one's strengths and weaknesses or limitations, as it helps us live a happier and healthier life.
The concept of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health is another lesson that "Words on Bathroom Walls" taught me. Mental health is often stigmatized, with individuals finding it hard to talk about their mental struggles openly. The book advocates for breaking the stigma and encourages individuals to seek help if needed. I found this to be especially important as it shed light on an issue that is often overlooked.
Finally, I learned the importance of communication and relationships. The novel emphasizes the significance of having a support system and people who care for us deeply. Support from family, friends, and loved ones is essential to one's mental well-being. The book highlighted the importance of communicating and reaching out when one is struggling. I learned that while it may not be easy to talk about one's struggles, it is necessary to have conversations that matter and seek help when it's needed.
In conclusion, "Words on Bathroom Walls" offered me an eye-opening perspective on mental illness, self-acceptance, breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, and the importance of communication and relationships. Julia Walton's exceptional writing sensitively portrays an individual's journey with schizophrenia, showing the ups and downs of living with a mental illness. This book has opened up doors of empathy, self-reflection, and understanding and has given me a deeper appreciation of life.

Climate change is one of the biggest problems that the world is facing. The earth experiences increasing temperatures, rising sea levels, and extreme weather conditions that endanger our livelihoods. The most impactful way to combat climate change is to reduce carbon emissions.
One of the most effective ways to do this is to transition to renewable energy sources. Despite the known advantages of renewable energy, governments worldwide have been hesitant to transition from traditional fossil fuels. Coal, oil, and natural gas continue to be the primary energy sources in most countries. This transition to renewable energy sources will require a concerted effort from governments, policy-makers, businesses, and individuals. Solar, wind, and hydropower are excellent examples of cleaner alternatives that can replace traditional sources of energy. They emit no greenhouse gases, no carbon dioxide, and no polluting emissions.
Another impactful way to combat climate change is through changes in transportation. Transportation is one of the largest consumers of energy, and it contributes significantly to carbon emissions. Reducing car usage by promoting public transit, walking, cycling, and carpooling would be a significant step in reducing greenhouse emissions. Governments should invest in better public transit systems to make them more accessible and affordable, especially for the low-income populace.
Reducing meat consumption would also make a significant impact on carbon emissions. Animal agriculture consumes large amounts of energy, water, and land resources, and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. A vegan or vegetarian diet can help to reduce carbon emissions, as it contains fewer greenhouse gases than a meat-based diet.
Lastly, individual behavior changes are crucial in combating climate change. The energy and resources necessary to produce goods and services lead to significant carbon emissions. By adopting a minimalist lifestyle, we can reduce our consumption levels, waste less, and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions in the production of goods and services. Recycling is also an impactful way to reduce waste and minimize emissions. While recycling alone may not be enough to combat climate change, incorporating it into everyday life can reduce pollution and conserve energy and natural resources.
In conclusion, the most impactful way to combat climate change is through collective action that encourages individuals, governments, and businesses to reform their habits and adopt more sustainable practices. Transitioning to renewable energy, promoting better transportation systems, reducing meat consumption, and changing our individual behavior will pave the way to a greener future. The effects of climate change can already be felt in various parts of the world, and the urgency with which we need to act cannot be overstated. We all have a vital role to play in combating climate change and building a sustainable future.

Substance abuse is a major issue in society today, and it is important that we, as a community, make an effort to educate people around us about this serious problem. Doing so can help prevent and reduce substance abuse among young people, families, and communities. Here are some of the most effective ways to educate others about substance abuse:
1. Speak openly and honestly about the issue. Educating others about substance abuse starts with yourself—speak openly and honestly about the risks and consequences of abusing substances. Be sure to emphasize the short-term and long-term effects of substance abuse, such as illness, financial concerns, family issues, and even death.
2. Use media such as television or newspapers to spread awareness. Many people prefer visual mediums such as television or newspapers for gaining information, so use these to your advantage when spreading awareness about substance abuse. Advertising campaigns and newspaper articles on the dangers of substance abuse can be highly effective in educating others. Not only can emphasizing the short- and long-term effects of substance abuse aid in prevention, but utilizing media to spread awareness can also be highly effective.
3. Host educational seminars or presentations. Hosting educational seminars or presentations that discuss the dangers of substance abuse allows people to become informed while being in a supportive environment. These types of events can allow people to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the issue. By providing education on the subject, people can make informed decisions about their own behavior.
4. Reach out to students and young people. Reaching out to students and young people can help create a knowledge-based foundation for them before they reach an age where they might face pressure to use substances. Talk to children and young people about the dangers of substance abuse while they are still in school and inform them of the resources they can use if they ever need help. These conversations can not only help to raise awareness about the issue but also give people an opportunity to better understand why using substances is dangerous and why prevention should be a priority.
5. Partner with organizations and local programs. Joining forces with organizations and local programs is another effective way to educate people about substance abuse. Having access to resources from these organizations and programs can help create a more comprehensive educational experience for people so that they can obtain all the facts about substance abuse. Providing young people with the facts and resources they need to make informed decisions is essential when it comes to talking about substance abuse.
By educating ourselves and others about substance abuse, we can help prevent and reduce its occurrence in our community. Through continued education, we can strive for a healthier, substance-free way of life for future generations. This knowledge can help individuals make well-informed decisions and understand the consequences of substance abuse.

Once upon a time, there was a small litter of rainbow pugs living in a beautiful forest. The pugs were always lively and full of energy, ready to play and experience new things.
One day, the rainbow pugs were running around their forest home when they noticed a big, brightly colored light peeking through the trees. They were so entranced by it that, without a moment's hesitation, they ran towards the light.
As the pugs got closer, they could hear a strange and enchanting sound. When they finally reached the source of the light and sound, they were astonished to discover it was a magical rainbow arc that was playing a cheerful melody.
Once they realized this, the pugs began to dance and frolic around in a circle. They wagged their tails, jumped up and down and twirled around in a chaotic manner that only puppies can do. Everyone was having so much fun that they even began singing along to the music. The rainbow arc was delighted with their enthusiasm and began playing a new, even faster beat.
The pugs' enthusiasm reached its peak, and they began to run around wildly, jumping, barking and hollering. The rainbow arc created a special light show that followed the pugs wherever they went. Colors of yellow, green, blue, and red flew around like fireworks and illuminated the forest.
Just when the pugs were about to reach their highest level of chaotic joy, the sun began to set and the rainbow arc stopped playing its magical music. The pugs blinked, looking confused and a bit disoriented. Then, in one collective moment of realization, they spread throughout the forest and hopped into their respective homes.
That night, all the rainbow pugs had the most wonderful dream. They dreamed of a magical rainbow arc that created a light show for them as they pranced around and danced to its soothing music.
Ever since then, the rainbow pugs have been more lively and giddy than ever before. They are always searching for that magical rainbow arc and the wonderful time they all shared.

Generational wealth is a term coined to describe not just the financial resources but also the knowledge and transfer of values that are shared across generations of a family. As humans, our quality of life and experiences are largely shaped by the social, political, and economic conditions of our environment. Generally, the poorer one’s family is, the harsher the conditions of one’s life will be. While our natural talent and dedication may help us rise above our circumstances, having generational wealth gives us the blessings of a well-resourced background and the upbringing of a higher class.
Generational wealth to me means enlightenment, comfort, stability, and opportunity. It means learning from the mistakes and successes of our ancestors and using that knowledge to build a better legacy of our own. It means growing up in an environment where the financial barriers that limit the quality of life can be tackled with relative ease. It means establishing a personal network of people with acquired knowledge that expands our access to resources and our network to a larger demographic.
Generational wealth has allowed me to understand the value of achieving goals and how it can shape the lives of those in a family. It has made me understand the importance of creating a strong foundation for financial well-being that will benefit my family and those around me. Generational wealth has also allowed me to appreciate the beauty of lifelong investments that benefit future generations. I recognize the importance of investing in long-term assets such as real estate and stocks as opposed to indulging in present-day luxuries.
Generational wealth has provided me the opportunity to lead a comfortable life without having to worry about where my next meal or book report may come from. It has granted me the ability to focus on my education and my professional career without having to worry about my financial stability. But most importantly, it has instilled in me an appreciation for time management and the value of hard work, dedication, and patience.
Generational wealth is an invaluable gift that has the power to shape a prosperous future not just for myself but for my family for many generations to come. It is a powerful resource that will provide me with the opportunity to make more conscious decisions about how to give back to the world and how to shape the lives of future generations. In short, it is the conduit for laying the foundation for a better tomorrow for me and my family.

Perseverance means tenacity, determination, and resilience to me. It’s the idea that no matter what happens, you never give up and you keep trying until you succeed. To have perseverance is to have grit and real staying power when things get hard. Perseverance is not only hard work but also the courage to never give up when the odds are stacked against you. Perseverance requires a great deal of personal strength and self-belief, as well as having a clear understanding of one's goals.
I have drawn upon perseverance many times in my life. For example, I set out to run a half marathon a few years ago. I had been training for many months, but as the race came closer, I began to doubt my abilities. I was concerned that I would not be able to finish due to a lack of endurance and strength. I was ready to give up until I heard commentators speak about how to never give up and how, with perseverance, anything is possible. Something inside me shifted, and I recall feeling a wave of inspiration come over me. Combining this with my training and endless preparation, I put my full effort into the race. When the running got hard, I had to push myself more and more, focusing on my perseverance to get me to the finish line. I began to realize that the race was about more than just the time on the clock—it was a test of my will.
Eventually, I finished the race. The feeling of accomplishment that I felt upon crossing the finish line was overwhelming. I realized that I had achieved something I had never thought possible and that I could do anything I set my mind to. It affirmed my belief that, no matter how difficult things get, if I don’t give up and keep trying, I can make anything happen. It was a moment of pure joy that taught me that it’s never too late to try something new and challenge myself.
Since then, I have used my perseverance to join a long-distance cycling group, take my education to the next level, and realize my goals in life. I now use perseverance as a guiding principle in my life to help me handle the toughest of situations. Perseverance keeps me going when the going gets tough, which has become more important in my life than ever before. No matter what happens, I always believe that I have the power to succeed, and with perseverance, nothing can stop me. I learned the value of perseverance early in life when I encountered a series of setbacks that threatened to derail my progress.

As a child, there was always something special in my relationship with others. I was naturally drawn to helping others and ensuring fairness, and I gained pleasure from making positive connections. It was clear that my abilities to counsel, provide support and understand were particularly powerful in helping others make sense of their own experiences. Looking back, I can now identify that this was my earliest expression of wanting to become a psychologist.
Psychology is the most natural way of engaging with people to figure out the science behind the complexities of their minds and behavior. Particularly concerning children, the discoveries psychologists make can be truly astounding. Childhood is a fundamental piece of life and sometimes troubling or challenging experiences can have disruptive consequences. By understanding these issues and creating solutions that foster thoughtful yet balanced responses, child psychologists can make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many children and young adults.
Past experiences as a youth advocate and working with a variety of children have further encouraged my decision to become a child psychologist. Even with minimal guidance, I found that children responded in kind and that providing little nudges in the right direction had the power to make a significant difference in the outcome. Whether I was facilitating a summer enrichment program, running a youth discussion circle, or establishing a personal connection with a young person in need, I found that a single moment in time could sometimes have lasting implications.
There is an understanding in psychology that developing an effective treatment process comes with a deep understanding and appreciation for the individual needs of the patient. As a child psychologist, I would be able to help children uncover potential sources of their behavior and develop techniques that can help them learn how to manage their emotions and relationships better. I understand that becoming a psychologist comes with a great deal of responsibility, but I would welcome the challenge of addressing and understanding the nuances of behavior and making a real difference in a children’s outcome.
In conclusion, the desire to explore and understand the complex mental and emotional states of children to really make a difference is what drives me to become a child psychologist. I am aware of the level of responsibility this profession holds and the commitment it requires, but I am excited to face the challenge and learn what I can. I look forward to being a part of this journey and using my counseling skills to help make a lasting impact.

Growing up, I was always a bit behind my peers. I was intelligent, but something held me back. I could never quite understand why I was falling behind in school, struggling with simple spelling and grammar mistakes, and making basic math errors. It was not until much later that I realized what had been holding me back: I had dyslexia.
Dyslexia can be a difficult challenge for those who have it. It's a learning disability that affects the way a person reads, writes, spells, and sometimes even speaks. In my case, dyslexia caused confusion and hindrance in every subject that I tried to learn. Math was difficult due to my poor working memory, so it was hard to keep track of numbers and remember equations. English was just as difficult due to my difficulty in recognizing and remembering letter combinations and letter order. Without proper spelling and grammar, I often came to the wrong conclusions while writing or taking tests.
Dyslexia was an obstacle that I had to overcome in order to succeed in school. I had to heavily rely on memorization and practice in order to form a strong foundation of English language skills and to be able to understand and explain concepts without having the words get in the way of tutors, friends, and family to help me understand the material I was being taught. I studied hard to make sure that I understood what was expected of me, especially in reading and writing. With the help of specialized tutoring, I was able to slowly but surely improve my academic performance.
Despite having dyslexia, I was able to graduate high school with a good GPA and move on to college. I was determined to show all of my peers, teachers, and family members that dyslexia does not define me. I proved to myself that, with hard work, I can still achieve anything I set my mind to.
My experience with dyslexia has taught me patience and determination. When I look back, I can still see the difficulties that it posed, but I also acknowledge the strong-willed person that I have become because of it. I now understand the strengths and weaknesses caused by dyslexia, as I know that it influences more than just my academic performance. Dyslexia has had an immense impact on my life, and I'm glad I was able to recognize it and use it to my advantage.
Financial Literacy Importance Scholarship
As a student, managing your finances is an essential skill for future success. Without being vigilant in managing your spending and budgeting effectively, you can quickly find yourself in a situation where you have no money left in the bank to pay for rent or have to take out loans and form bad spending habits. To make sure that you are taking the right steps to become financially secure and responsible, it is important to manage your finances as a student.
The first step to successful financial management as a student is to create a budget. This means you should account for your income and expenses, including tuition and living costs, and make sure that you are only spending what is necessary. To create an effective budget, it is important to track all of your spendings, either through paper or electronic methods. You should also take note of any money-earning opportunities, such as money received from scholarships or grants, to help you with budgeting. Once you have tracked your spending and have an idea of what bills you need to pay each month, you can create a budget to make sure you are not overspending or becoming too reliant on credit cards to pay for living expenses.
It is also important to save for retirement and build an emergency fund as a student. While saving for retirement may seem daunting now, you should start planning as soon as possible so that you can take advantage of compounding interest and the benefits of investing for a long period of time. It is also important to save for unexpected expenses, as this can help you avoid potential financial trouble. To do this, you should ideally set aside a portion of your income each month so you have money available when an emergency arises.
Finally, it is important to be aware of how to use credit cards responsibly while a student, as they can be a helpful financial tool or a fatal mistake that can cause a person to spiral into debt. If you plan to use credit cards, you should draw a dividing line between expenses you can afford to pay off over time and those that need to be paid right away. You should also make sure to always pay your balance on time and in full and choose credit cards with low-interest rates where possible.
Managing your finances as a student is an important skill that can help you stay financially secure for life. While this process may seem overwhelming at first, by taking the time to create a budget, save for retirement and emergencies, and use credit cards responsibly, you can ensure that you are on the right path toward financial freedom and security.

My goal to become a child psychologist is grounded in a deep and abiding passion for helping others. I have always held a strong empathy for those in difficult circumstances, and as I progressed through my education in psychology, I was continually drawn to the plight of children who are facing psychological battles. Throughout my studies, I developed a genuine interest in the therapeutic application of various psychological tools and techniques and saw firsthand how the successful application of such principles can help to unlock the inner struggles of children and adolescents who are unable to cognitively comprehend their experiences quite yet.
Helping children to discover and understand their emotions, recognize fear and anger, or cope with the expectations of their families, friends and peers, is a process that I find deeply rewarding. Having dedicated my time as a tutor, volunteer and teacher too and with children in both school and social environments, it became increasingly clear to me that I can have my greatest impact by helping young, developing minds to grow, learn and reach their potential.
The nurturing environment provided by a child psychologist is crucial for young people to grow in, and I am confident that I can be the medical professional who organizations, agencies and clinics can trust to help their clients. My goal to become a child psychologist is strengthened by the knowledge of the diverse areas I will be able to work in to help children, for instance, working in hospitals, universities, schools, research and more. Each of these areas will present myriad opportunities to further advance my knowledge of the field, and enhance my skills as a professional.
I am particularly attracted to this career, as it not only allows me to utilize my strengths with understanding, compassion and patience but will keep me on the cutting edge of research and development in the area of child psychology. Having the privilege of staying current, up-to-date and acquainted with the latest research and treatments gives me the possibility to apply the most effective techniques and provide the best help for my clients.
Ultimately, my goal to become a child psychologist is twofold. I am inspired to take an active role in promoting the mental, social, and emotional health of children, so that they may live safe, prosperous and satisfying lives, and helping them get to a state of balance and understanding from which they can grow and reach their full development potential. Beyond that, as a child psychologist, I will feel as though I am making a lasting positive impact in the world for many generations to come.

One of the most life-changing periods of any person’s life is after college. Having a college degree opens so many doors and allows for so many opportunities to lack direction in life and to do very little to make an impact on the community, in turn affecting the people around them. My plan for giving back to my community after college is to use my specialized skills, knowledge, and experiences to reach out to areas of the community that may lack resources or understanding.
The first area that I would look to give back to is volunteering. Participating in volunteer organizations specifically tailored to my educational background, such as civic and community projects, would be very beneficial. Engaging in hands-on volunteer opportunities, such as leading discussions or workshops on topics of interest to me, can help educate and empower my peers and members of my community. This would not only provide me with the opportunity to use my knowledge and abilities, but to also use my experiences to create conversations, generate ideas, and improve the overall quality of life within the community.
The second area of focus would be giving back financially. After graduation, I will use the earnings I acquire from my career to financially contribute to causes that I hold dear. This can be done through donations to local charities and non-profits, or through programs that target those in need. The effects of this act could have a very profound and lasting impact on any given community, as funding and donations to areas of need can go a long way in helping those in need. Having a steady income will also provide me with the opportunity to make bigger donations than if I were not financially independent.
Additionally, donating my time and professional skills would be a great way to give back. Providing free consultations, tutoring sessions, or teaching classes at a non-profit organization will allow me to pass down my knowledge to the younger generations and can provide invaluable guidance and advice to those who do not always have access to such resources.
Being able to use the work that I do to give something back to the community is something that post-college life will provide me with the opportunity to do. The knowledge that I have gained in college and the experiences that I have had should not be locked away in my head - it is beneficial to society and can help those who do not always have access to the same resources that I have. After college, I look forward to using the privilege of having a college degree to its full extent by giving back to my community in any way I can.

Serving my community has been one of my greatest passions ever since I was a child. Growing up, I held numerous roles as a volunteer and was always encouraged to do my part to make the world a better place. As I have grown older, I have actively sought out more opportunities to serve my community and to have a positive influence on it.
Over the years, I have gained experience in multiple ways of serving my community. Furthermore, I partake in community marches, rallies and events to support my community’s efforts for rights, activism and change. As a supporter of local activists and organizers, I take part in informational campaigns to raise awareness on social topics.
When I am not out volunteering, I am constantly searching for ways to have an impact on my community. Through my studies, I have gained insights into global development, improved lifestyles and building resilient communities. Additionally, I have developed strategies to help others achieve success, such as organizing start-up workshops and internships. Additionally, I have utilized my skills in the sciences and mathematics to provide mentoring and tuition services to others, helping to eliminate financial barriers that could lead to educational disparities.
Most recently, I have launched a local project in which I have reached out to local schools to provide educational installations in classrooms. Through this initiative, I have been able to raise awareness on pressing issues such as global warming and conservation. My initiative has been successful in providing students with resources to understand the local environment and motivate them to engage in responsible lifestyles.
Overall, my service to my community has sought to bring awareness to pressing social issues, provide relief to those in need and to create meaningful conversations around the topics which truly matter. I am constantly devising plans to reach more individuals and understand more clearly the needs of my community. My work will never be finished, but I will always strive to improve my community, to make it a better place.

With addiction being introduced into my life from a very young age and living with an addict for most of my life has without a doubt been a challenge, and has had a marked effect on my academic desires and aspirations. As a college student, I have without a doubt needed to adjust the way I approach my studies and the motivations and attitudes which pressure me to be successful.
Growing up with a dad who is addicted to drugs, alcohol, and was constantly in jail has intertwined with my educational journey in ways I by no means anticipated. It has birthed within me an enhanced sense of appreciation and earnestness when it comes to my scholastic endeavors. The instability that comes with living with an addict, at the side of the dangers and uncertainty this added on, ultimately cultivated within me a deeper information and gratitude for what I have been capable of attaining. Even when instances had been tough, out of a choice to higher my occasions and people of my family, I did my best throughout high school and will continue this drive into my time as an undergraduate student.
Living with an addict has stimulated me to move above and beyond in my studies, as I view it as an exceptionally feasible way of providing for my destiny. Ostensibly, it made me see my education as a shape of safe haven; an antidote to the uncertainty of living with my father's dependency. It is safe to say that having a father who is an addict has notably impacted my journey throughout school. Regardless of the turbulence I was skilled, and my academic desires never wavered. On the contrary, the instability of existence at home served to compound my dedication to educational excellence. It has pushed me further as a scholar and has taught me the value of consistency and dedication, in addition to how to cope with the inevitable hardships that include academic interests. It has, in the end, driven me to strive tougher and given me a newfound appreciation and appreciation for schooling and all its opportunities. Although it was a tough journey and will continue to be rocky, I feel as though I have used the addiction I have been exposed to throughout my life to fuel my desire to succeed and provide myself with a better future.

Studying to become a child psychologist is one of the most rewarding and gratifying career paths one can take. Children, due to their developmental stage of life and their particular vulnerabilities, are especially in need of close and personalized care that only a trained and experienced psychotherapist can offer. As a child psychologist, I will strive to use my understanding of psychological science to support children in the struggle of growing up, helping them through the often difficult transitions, and celebrating their successes with them.
The first reason why I am studying to become a child psychologist is the impact my work will have on the lives of young people. As a child psychologist, I will be helping children identify and understand their emotional concerns, as well as develop and utilize appropriate coping skills. I will support children in developing confidence in their agency, facilitating their sense of autonomy and self-determination. Through these collaborative efforts, I will get to witness the changes that take place over time and be part of the journey of helping them become fulfilled, self-determinant, and engaged members of their communities. Moreover, the emotional rewards of such a goal-oriented career will be plentiful.
The second reason why I am studying to become a child psychologist is my deep and abiding commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Growing up, I had many times experienced difficulties that left me feeling powerless and confused. Now, I know that I want to lend a helping hand to children who may find themselves feeling lost and unable to express their feelings. I want to be a steady and understanding presence in their lives, and ultimately become a source of light, hope, and understanding. A successful and meaningful career in child psychology affords me the opportunity to offer compassionate, individualized support that will help children who are navigating the difficult challenges of growing up and becoming their best selves.
The third reason why I am studying to become a child psychologist is to be able to explore and understand potential mental health issues that, left untreated, may lead to long-term problems. Children with mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, often lack the cognitive processing ability, communication skills, and emotional resilience to effectively cope with their situation, resulting in behavioral difficulties and life challenges. As a child psychologist, I envision using my training to better understand the cause of emotional distress, provide therapeutic guidance, and foster healthy coping skills for today’s youth. In doing so, I hope to be able to help recognize potential mental health problems early on and provide the supportive environment and resources needed to address them before it's too late.
Ultimately, studying to become a child psychologist is a career that has the potential to bring immense joy and satisfaction; to be an active part of positive change in the lives of young people; and to be able to make a lasting impact on the well-being of our future generations. My commitment to being a certified and qualified child psychologist begins now.
Collaboration & Diversity in Healthcare Scholarship
Collaboration and diversity within the healthcare and medical field are essential for advancing medicine and providing the best patient care. Without a diverse range of individuals, healthcare systems and institutions cannot reach their full potential. I personally believe that collaboration is key to success, both in the medical field and beyond. For example, when I was younger, I was part of a group working to create a safe space for homeless individuals in my community.
Over the years, I have come to deeply appreciate the power of collaboration and diversity. Working with a variety of individuals with different backgrounds and experiences has helped me to think outside of the box and come up with creative solutions to complex problems. One of my most meaningful experiences in this regard was when I was part of a team that designed a new healthcare system for an underserved community. The diversity of our team allowed us to develop an innovative approach to providing quality healthcare, and our collaboration ensured that our ideas were implemented swiftly and effectively.
Collaboration and diversity are two of the most important values that I have incorporated into my work in the healthcare and medical field. By understanding and embracing the unique perspectives, skillsets, and talents of others, I am able to think more broadly and creatively about solutions to problems. I believe this helps us reach more successful outcomes. My past experience in healthcare has shown me that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to medical care.
I truly believe that collaboration and diversity are essential to advancing the healthcare and medical field. There is so much that can be gained through the collective knowledge of a diverse set of individuals with different experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. Working together on projects can create a unique opportunity to identify innovative solutions and to make significant progress in addressing the challenges faced in the healthcare and medical field. I have seen this first-hand in my own experiences.
Collaboration and diversity are essential to advancing the healthcare and medical field. By working together, medical professionals can share and learn from each other's experiences, create new solutions to existing problems, and develop better treatments for patients. Diversity is also important for ensuring that all perspectives are included when making decisions, as no one person has all the solutions. Working together with a diverse range of colleagues helps to ensure that the best solutions are created and that the most equitable outcomes are reached.

Being involved in my community has always been an important goal for me. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that giving back doesn’t always have to be about money or resources; even something as simple as volunteering my time is a great way to help those in need. I’ve been able to do this by volunteering with a number of different organizations that help individuals in my local community.
Growing up in a small town, my community has always been the most important thing to me. I was raised to understand the importance of giving back and taking care of those around me. Ever since I joined my high school's cheer squad in my freshman year, cheerleading has been an integral part of my life. My involvement in this sport has given me a great deal of valuable lessons, as well as shaped who I am as a person.
When I first joined the team, I was welcomed with open arms by all of the other girls. We quickly built a strong bond and soon enough, it felt like I was a part of a second family. Participating on the team during practice, games and competitions helped to strengthen our relationships, and I am proud to say that some of these girls are still my friends today.
Cheerleading has also helped me to become more confident, resilient and focused.
Second, cheerleading has taught me how to work hard and never give up. Cheerleading is very demanding and time-consuming – you need to be physically strong and flexible, learn difficult stunts and formations, and continuously practice to perfect your performance. All this effort and work have taught me that dedication and perseverance really pay off; when you strive for perfection, success will follow.
Third, cheerleading has given me the courage to be confident and trust in myself. When I step out onto the mat during a cheering performance, it takes a lot of courage to put ourselves out there for everyone to judge. Cheerleading has taught me that sometimes you have to take risks and accept challenges in order to build confidence. It has also taught me that it is OK to make mistakes and learn from them.
Finally, it has taught me to stay positive no matter what. Cheerleading requires a lot of support in order to succeed, and it is a must to stay motivated and not let negative thoughts or emotions take over. Being positive and encouraging despite setbacks has allowed me to keep striving toward my goals and to be resilient in the face of adversity.
All in all, cheerleading has had a tremendous impact on my life and my character. It has taught me to work hard, to be confident, and to always maintain a positive attitude. Through such an experience, I have been able to form lifelong friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life. While cheerleading has been a difficult sport to do, it is an incredibly rewarding experience that I would not trade for the world.

Our everyday choices have a tremendous impact on the environment, no matter how small. From the food we purchase to the materials we use to build, even the most mundane activities can have a massive environmental impact. The world is connected and our actions can directly, and indirectly, affect the world around us.
The environment is made up of an intricate series of interconnected and delicate systems, which our daily choices can disrupt in multiple ways. An obvious example is the generation of pollution, both on a small scale (like car exhausts) and a large scale (like industrial smokestacks). Carbon dioxide is a main contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming, making it essential that we all pay close attention to the choices we make that contribute to the amount of this gas in the atmosphere.
Another important factor to consider is the materials that we use. Products are made from synthetic and natural materials, like plastics and polymers. We need to be aware of where these materials come from and where they go once we no longer have a use for them. Many common items, such as toothbrushes and single-use drinking cups, are made from plastic and polymers that will take hundreds of years to decompose, clogging up landfills and polluting the environment. Choosing reusable items instead of disposables is an important and simple way to reduce our impact.
Leading an eco-friendly lifestyle extends beyond products and pollution, however. It encompasses the way we travel and gets around, the energy we use, and the food we consume. When commuting to work, most people turn to the car, but there are several more sustainable choices. Walking, biking, and taking the bus or train can reduce emissions and improve air quality. We can also pay close attention to the way we use energy in our homes, such as unplugging electronics and appliances when not in use to reduce electricity consumption.
Food production is a major part of the environmental puzzle. The mass production of food requires massive amounts of energy, land, and water, along with the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals to ensure food safety. To reduce our overall impact, we can all consciously choose organic and locally sourced products to reduce packaging and transportation needs, as well as support small businesses, farmers, and sustainability initiatives.
Ultimately, our daily choices can have a cascading effect across the environment. Every small action, such as limiting or eliminating the use of plastics and using sustainable transportation options, can help reduce our overall impact. If we are mindful of the effect our choices have on the environment, we can reduce our footprint and make a meaningful impact on the planet.

Financial literacy is a concept that is becoming more and more important in today’s society. With personal finance being a complicated subject, educating oneself on how to manage money can be vital in building financial security and reaching economic goals.
First and foremost, one must understand the basics of financial literacy which includes income, expenses, investments, debts, and credit. You should have an understanding of income sources, how taxes are calculated, and the types of taxes that are due each year. Expenses should be tracked, budgeted, and accounted for. Every month, it is important to take note of what spending is necessary and what is avoidable. Investments allow individuals to build wealth, so it is essential to understand the different types of investments - such as mutual funds, stocks, or bonds. Understanding debts and borrowing money are equally important, as interest levels and fees can drastically impact one’s financial stability. Lastly, credit is a key tool that people use in their everyday lives, but it needs to be managed properly. Knowing the difference between good and bad credit, as well as how credit cards and other debt instruments work, can be important for financial success.
Once a basic understanding of the concept of financial literacy has been established, it is important to find reliable resources for furthering your education. Numerous books, websites, articles, and podcasts focus on personal finance topics such as budgeting, investing in debt reduction, and retirement planning. Reading these materials can help to educate oneself and build financial knowledge. Local libraries or free online sources such as Khan Academy or Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University can also have valuable resources. Watching videos, printing worksheets, or even taking classes are also ways to learn more.
It is essential to apply learned concepts in practical scenarios as well. For example, individuals should begin tracking their expenses and creating a budget or researching and choosing funds when investing their money in mutual funds or stocks. Making small changes in habits or perspective can yield significant long-term benefits. Additionally, talking to experienced people or attending free seminars or workshops on financial planning can be beneficial.
Practicing good financial habits and being persistent in achieving financial goals is the key to financial literacy. In other words, it is not a one-time process but rather a continuous journey. As said by Albert Einstein, “The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest”. Therefore, financially literate people should take the time to educate themselves and remember that small, consistent steps can lead to great rewards in the long run.

One of the greatest books to ever grace my life-changing journey is Herman Hesse’s “Siddhartha.” This small book packs an immense power of wisdom and introspection, that has been an indispensable guide in making choices in life.
To truly internalize the message of ‘Siddhartha’, it is important to grasp the facts and the social, religious and cultural context in which it was written. Herman Hesse had a tendency to depict the innermost emotions of characters and this work is no different. He draws inspiration from his inner struggles and portrays Siddhartha as a spiritual seeker, who desires to attain Moksha (liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth).
The key aspects of the story revolve around Siddhartha’s quest for Truth and the subsequent resolution derived from his experiences and retrospective analysis of his life. The book is divided into four sections, each of which reflects a different stage in Siddhartha’s journey. In the first section, Siddhartha initially embarks on his search for truth by joining a religious order.
In the second section, Siddhartha leaves the religious order, in an attempt to forge his path. It presented newfound feelings of purpose, vitality and autonomy to him. This is a crucial rebirth of his character, in which he starts realizing the limitations of conventional educational systems. He believes there are other valuable sources of knowledge apart from structured teachings.
The third section shows Siddhartha meeting Gotama (Buddha), which proves to be a pivotal point in his life. Gotama enlightens Siddhartha by revealing to him the almighty power of the Middle Path. Siddhartha symbolically crosses the river and reaches the other side, where he sorts himself out and finds his path to spiritual growth.
In the last chapter, Siddhartha subdues his mind and body, thus attaining self-realization. This is symbolized by the reunion with his son and of course the magical meeting with his dearest friend from the past, Govinda. The story eventually goes full circle as it came to be ever so beautifully.
This book changed my life as it taught me a valuable lesson. Its intricate details gave me a strong motivation to go beyond what is expected of human life in terms of conventions and traditions. It gently reminded me of the importance of introspection and of looking outside the box. As a result, I have started to carefully examine the motivations for my actions. ‘Siddhartha’ gave me wings to think and do what I truly believe in and make choices without being self-limiting.

My uncle was diagnosed with cancer in various organs roughly five years ago. He went through treatment at the time and was clear for three and a half years before the cancer came back. Most of my family did not know how deathly my uncle's cancer was during the first six months he was back on treatments, but once he bought a modified dirt track car as a bucket list item, we knew he did not have much longer. For the next year, I got to watch my uncle live out his 25-year-long dream of getting back behind the seat of a race car and being back out on the track. Now, this was no simple task for my uncle; he had to learn a completely new track, car, and style of racing while fighting a horrible disease. Week after week I watch him get so excited to get behind the seat of this car no matter what was going on with his cancer. Even after getting a tracheostomy and a feeding tube, my uncle's first priority was getting strong enough to get back out on the track. Seeing the dedication, passion, and will to this sport was inspiring to say the least, but he and I would often talk on the car rides home from the track. I feel like these talks have helped me grow in a lot of ways. One of the most important things I learned from these talks was that I should live every day like it is my last. There are a lot of things I used to worry about, but I realized that if I died tomorrow, half of those things would not matter. I should take every experience I am offered, I should take that random class I do not need, and I should spend more time will people because what is the worst that could happen? I gain a bad experience? In the end, bad experiences are still experience that I can learn and grow from. When I am at the end of my journey, I can leave with a ton of experience and have no regrets that I should have done more. Although it was extremely hard to lose my uncle, I feel very at peace with his passing; he was at peace with his experience and was ready for what lay before him, and I truly believe it is because he lived every day like it was his last.
