Photosynthesis is by far my favorite scientific discovery. I thinks it's absolutely wild that plants can take carbon dioxide, water, and energy from the Sun and create glucose and oxygen. The plants are making the glucose as energy for themselves, but the oxygen is a byproduct and is released into the environment. This is a good thing for us humans because without plants, we would not exist much longer. Sadly, we can't watch the plant do this without a microscope because almost all plants do it constantly, they never stop. The glucose that plants make is energy for creating cellular structures. This allows plants to grow, get taller, stronger and sometimes produce fruit and vegetables. This is another way that photosynthesis is important. If we did not have plants producing glucose through photosynthesis, we would all be carnivores. This would be a very unhealthy diet, as plants provide many nutrients for us that we require to continue to grow. In conclusion, photosynthesis is vitally important for both the plant and for animals to continue to live a healthy life, and that's why it's my favorite scientific discovery.

Save. You have got to save money from the moment you start making money. If you do not save and you continue to spend your money, a rainy day will come, and you may not have much to help you out. A simple savings account that you put 10-20% of your paychecks into can save you in the future. Committing to a savings account can help you by making sure you have money stashed away that can be used in the event of an emergency. Unexpected medical bills and car or home maintenance are only three examples of emergencies that require immediate attention. It's important to make sure you may be ready for anything that life may throw at you, and you can be sure you are prepared with a savings account. Saving can also be for the short-term, not just long term. For example, you can save for a few months and then travel. The longer or more you save, the farther you can travel. You could also save in the short-term for something you want to buy, but may be slightly expensive, like a gaming console or new furniture. Saving is of the utmost importance for the future and can provide a much needed peace of mind and fulfill short-term goals.

A time when I solved a problem for someone is when I was going through the process of my Eagle Scout project. At a local park, the owner notified me that a section of the park on a road was very overgrown and needed some maintenance. I took this idea and ran with it. The roadside portion of the part was growing into the road probably two feet and there was brush covering the road. This needed to be fixed as soon as possible. I did some fundraising with volunteers via a car wash and raked in over $2,000. With more volunteers, we got to working on the brush, cutting down trees, shrubs, weeds and vines with chainsaws, loppers and axes. After 7 hard hours of working on this, we were mostly done with this part. The brush was cleared and you could see into the park from the road (This is exactly what the owner wanted). I wasn't finished. A few weeks later, with the help of volunteers (again), we set up a cedar split rail pony fence. The park looks almost unrecognizable because of how different and how much better it looks now. I think we could solve the problem of trashing our one and only Earth through regulations and laws. Big companies are using tons of resources to create their products and polluting the environment in turn. If multiple countries came together backing international regulations to prevent big corporations from taking advantage of the environment, we could make a change. Multiple people have been trying for years to fix this quickly before it becomes irreversible. Big corporations simply don't listen because they are going to lose money if they turn to a green solution rather than what they use now for energy and resources. There is no easy way to solve this problem, since it is bigger than just one person. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay.

Spend less than you make and save more than you think. This may sound simple and obvious, but some people don't realize how important it is. Most people receive their paycheck and go on a spending spree, which is the opposite of what you should do. You should save about 20% of every paycheck into an account for a rainy day. You never know what could happen and you need some extra money, such as for hospital bills or a home repair. Today, companies want you to spend more money, so they may run deals or send you coupons so that you are enticed to buy something from them. Companies are also partnering with "buy now, pay later" applications so that you can buy something and have it now, and pay for it in several interest-free installments. This makes you think you are spending less, but really it just draws the purchase out. These companies also make money off of you not paying on time, because they can charge you interest after the fact. It's important to stay true to your needs first, and then indulge in wants if you still have some left over. Groceries, house payments/rent, electricity, water, medicine, are primary needs (among others). You can do without that special hairdryer for a while in order to keep things running like they should. In conclusion, save a good amount of your paycheck every week and it will add up so that you can have some money ready for an emergency, and don't impulse buy things.
