Hi, my name is Israel Nehemiah Camara and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Alabama. My life goal is to earn my degree in computer science and help others in need. I am passionate about sports and academics. I believe that I am a good candidate because I am a hard worker both in and out of school.
When I earn my degree in computer science my goal is to hopefully provide those in need of aid. I would be able to use my degree by helping build different tools that could help us predict natural disasters such as hurricanes and volcanic eruptions. This could improve others' living conditions and prevent the death of thousands. As a side job, I would also use my degree to animate different shows and movies. As well as become a video game developer and create different video games such as Minecraft, Call of Duty, and NBA 2k22.
In high school, I ran both indoor and outdoor track as well as played football for all 4 years. In track, I competed in the MIAA DIV State Championship. There, I set a new school record for hurdles with a time of 16.20.
I also started the African American and Latinx Club at my school. The club provided a safe space for students dealing with racism in school. I was also part of the Social Justice club.
My first year at Alabama has been utterly amazing. I joined the Alabama Navigators, a Christian group committed to sharing the gospel, during my freshman year. To add to that, in October of 2021, the navigators and I spent the weekend in Asheville, North Carolina as part of a fall retreat.

Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
My volunteer work has helped shape my character, endowing me with empathy and compassion that have become defining aspects of my identity. It has allowed me to have a better understanding of others and where they come from. One of the many reasons I am applying for this scholarship is because it will help alleviate the financial burden that my family and I are facing. Receiving this would allow me to work fewer hours and shift more of my time to learning in school and donating more of my time to helping others.
Since I was a child, one of my ambitions has been to help others in need. Not only that, but it has helped change my perspective on life. From coordinating activities at a local summer camp to stepping up as a guest tutor in a local class, each volunteer opportunity has allowed me to reinforce my responsibility towards my community. Volunteering has allowed me to meet many people from different backgrounds and beliefs that are starkly different from my own. In addition, it has given me a sense of happiness and empathy. Knowing that I was able to contribute to bettering our society was enough to put a smile on my face. Volunteering has demonstrated the powerful truth that wealth is not a prerequisite for changing the world. Regardless of one's race, financial situation, or beliefs, anyone can make a difference in the world. No matter how small their contribution may seem.
There were many times that I can remember volunteering, each moment left a deep impression on me. One of my most memorable moments was when I, along with others, decided to take it upon ourselves to help organize food at our local food pantry. Our main priorities consisted of various tasks. Most importantly, we had to organize the different canned goods that were donated. As well as check their expiration dates to make sure that they are not expired. The food was then prepared for distribution to those in our community who were in dire need. The experience was humbling and meaningful, to say the least. It helped underline the importance of helping others and giving back to the community.
The financial difficulties my family and I are currently facing might be solved with the aid of this scholarship. Being from a lower-class background myself, it has not always been easy to afford my tuition. For someone who is in school trying to study computer science, I can say for certain that it is not an easy major to achieve a degree in. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to work fewer hours and better shift my attention to my academics. Not only that, but it would also allow me to further volunteer for other small organizations and charity events. This scholarship would serve to cover my tuition and help provide essential academic materials, enabling me to dive deeper into my computer science major.
In conclusion, volunteering stands as a cornerstone in my journey of personal growth. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to give back to the community and help those in need. I believe that it is important for everyone to contribute to our society and try to make the world a better place. Furthermore, receiving this scholarship would help contribute to the financial struggles that my family and I endure. However, despite the outcome, it will not hinder me from continuing to volunteer and trying to make the world a better place.

Mathematics, often relegated to just another school subject, holds significance far beyond the confines of a classroom. Yet, it's often overlooked that without math, many of the world's marvels simply wouldn't exist. Math bestows upon us the capability to recognize patterns and establish order. Much of the awe-inspiring architecture gracing metropolises like Chicago, Tokyo, and New York City owes its existence to this intricate discipline.
Moreover, mathematics forms the underpinning of games like chess, Tetris, poker, and the Rubik’s Cube, enhancing our ability to discern patterns, probabilities, and statistics. Surprisingly, it's also deeply interwoven into music. Despite being largely unnoticed, art and music both spring from mathematical roots. Geometry serves as a basis for music composition and visual perception. Understanding a song's rhythm, structure, and harmony is intrinsically mathematical. Similarly, geometry provides perspective and symmetry in art, enabling us to grasp painting techniques and identify imbalances.
A common misconception is that math is simply a matter of basic addition and subtraction. On the contrary, it is a cornerstone in the realm of engineering, playing a pivotal role in everything from crafting a small table to erecting monumental structures like the Empire State Building. Complex mathematical concepts, such as calculus and differential equations, help us comprehend the flow of fluids and gases, crucial for designing aerodynamic airplanes, efficient cars, and robust pipelines. During construction, architects and civil engineers must consider a myriad of factors such as cost estimation, material strength, and geometric and trigonometric aspects. They ensure that they utilize the right amount of materials without exceeding the budget and consider the strength of materials to withstand challenging weather conditions and the stress of occupancy.
My affinity for mathematics stems from its capacity to instill significant characteristics and cognitive abilities, unmatched by other disciplines. Math inculcates logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, fostering critical thinking while tackling complex problems. While other school subjects offer their unique benefits, one could assert that none are as integral to personal development as mathematics. Additionally, the universal language of math appeals to me. Its principles remain unchanged: one plus one will forever equal two. It remains a constant across cultures and personal beliefs, leaving no room for grey areas. Furthermore, math helps build discipline and patience. It forces you to take one step at a time and provide intricate details when solving challenging problems.
Despite its complexity, I firmly believe in the unparalleled importance of mathematics. It equips us with distinctive traits hard to cultivate elsewhere. Math, an enduring discipline since the first century, continues to serve as an essential pillar of our civilization, facilitating progress. As we look to the future, I hope more people will appreciate mathematics and recognize its profound impact on our world.
Bold Mentor Scholarship
Being the oldest of five children has made it necessary for me to serve as a strong mentor and role model for my siblings. Since I was a child, my parents instilled in me the value of being the eldest sibling and the responsibilities that go with it. Even as my siblings and I become older, I continue to strive to be the best leader and mentor possible for them. I want them to veer away from my life mistakes and learn from my errors. The importance of education and extracurricular activities are things that I try to teach my siblings. My objective is to make all of my siblings aware of the significance of their GPA and how it may affect them in the future, both positively and negatively.
Furthermore, in addition to attempting to instill in my siblings the value of education, I also make an effort to assist them in resolving issues that arise in daily life. I try my best to support them as they cope with the pressure and anxiety that comes from school and other life events. The most crucial lesson I strive to teach my siblings is to follow their aspirations. I constantly advise them to put their all into whatever they want to pursue in life. Additionally, it is crucial for me to teach them to never give up on their interests and goals. Despite what others may think, it is important to do what makes them happy and to follow all of their goals and ambitions.
Youssef University’s College Life Scholarship
If I were fortunate enough to win the $1,000 Youssef University’s College Life Scholarship, I would use the money to pay for the first month's rent of my off-campus apartment. The remaining funds would then be used to cover my college tuition, room, and board, as well as any other fees associated with my educational costs. I'd have more time to keep working and accumulating money for my next expense if I had $1,000. To further add, if I did not have to pay my rent, I would use the money to buy any books or materials I might require for the entire semester. As a computer science major, it is vital that we have peak-performing computers. I would improve my laptop's RAM and buy an external disk with the money. This would offer me the greatest chance to complete my coursework and obtain a degree.
The money could be used to help pay for any food and groceries that I might need in the future. Furthermore, it would help with the price of other essentials I would require, such as dish soap, laundry detergent, and other cleaning products. Winning this scholarship would help ease the financial burden on not only myself but also the rest of my family. I would have a greater chance to continue my studies at the University of Alabama if I won the scholarship, as I am currently having trouble paying for my college tuition.
WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship
In my life, I have undergone a series of many accomplishments. Many of those achievements have facilitated personal development. One of my greatest accomplishments to date is holding the Wilmington High School school record for the fastest 110-meter hurdler. I committed to breaking the school record and being the quickest hurdler to graduate from Wilmington High School in June of 2021, during my final year of high school. I worked harder than I ever had up to that moment during all of the season's practices. In four out of the five meets we had, I won first place. As my senior season came to a close, my coaches and teammates assisted me in training every day of the week. I had the good fortune to earn a spot in the state meet. I finished third at the meet, allowing me to earn a spot in the MIAA Division IV All-State final. During the week leading up to the race, I practiced at 8:00 am every day, concentrating on getting off of my blocks as quickly as possible. On the day of the event, I competed against Massachusetts' top hurdlers. At the end of the race, I finished in 22nd, surpassing the previous record of 16.42 with a time of 16.22.
Breaking the school record was a gratifying experience that taught me something I didn't even realize. It showed me that if I put all of my effort and energy into anything, I can accomplish my objectives and fulfill my aspirations. I can get beyond every obstacle in my way if I remain committed and ready to attain my goals. In spite of the challenges that stood in my way, I also learned how to push myself and have faith that I would succeed. I also discovered that not everyone would support and have faith in you. I was forced to trust myself and overlook the criticism I would receive while trying to break the school record. I was able to educate myself that it won't matter what other people think of me or my aspirations, as long as I believe in myself. The only one standing in my way is me. Any time I want to accomplish another goal of mine, I ask myself the question, "How far am I willing to go in order to attain my aspirations and dreams?"
My biggest goal in life is to become a professional athlete. If I were given the chance to play in the NFL, it would be my greatest accomplishment in life. By playing in the National Football League, I would be able to repay everyone who supported me along the way. First, I would assure my parents and grandparents that they wouldn't have to work again for the rest of their lives. I would also want to contribute to my younger sibling's education expenses so that my parents wouldn't have to shoulder the cost. Most importantly, it would be another big accomplishment for me if I was able to launch a charity fund. It would not only be for the needy and destitute, but also for orphans in and outside the United States.
Bold Deep Thinking Scholarship
There are several issues happening in our world that bring corruption and suffering. Many of them have their roots in people and society. Racism is one of the most significant issues in the world today. Many people harbor intense hatred for other people based solely on the color of their skin. Unfortunately, racism has caused a lot of physical and emotional violence against racial minorities, which they have had to endure and overcome.
Before the United States was ever created, racism existed. Racism before the founding of the United States. Racial prejudice has prevented the United States from progressing. Despite the nation's development since its inception, many racists continue to reside there. African Americans and people from other ethnic groups thus struggle to get jobs. Additionally, police violence and housing discrimination are more likely to affect people of color.
Learning more about America's past and recognizing its significance is one of the numerous ways we may address this issue. How do historical events like slavery still affect individuals today? Is it repairable? In order for things to change, these questions must be raised. Racism is hurtful and unethical, and parents should teach their children this. Additionally, it is crucial that they instill in their kids the knowledge that racism still exists today, and not just in the United States. To add to that, it is imperative that employers stop discriminating against people of color everywhere. They should be given the same opportunities as non-people of color. The world will not advance and change as long as the United States and the rest of the world continue to discriminate against people based on the color of their skin.
Bold Bravery Scholarship
There are not many things in this world that I am afraid of. Since becoming a young adult, I have learned different ways to face my fear and anxiety. One of the few ways I practice my bravery is by meditating and realizing that there are certain things that are out of my control. Growing up, I've always needed things to be done a certain way and things to be in a certain order.
As I got older, I began to ask myself questions such as, “Is this going to affect me in the next 5 years?” and “Is it really worth stressing over?” I have realized that if you live in fear, you won't be able to completely appreciate everything that the world has to offer.
When it comes to tackling things like riding a roller coaster, I often tell myself that I may die at any moment of the day or night. I convince myself that I only have one life to live, and that I should not be held back by fear. I will slip into a profound state of despair and be miserable for the rest of my life if I allow myself to live in dread and worry. Furthermore, as I engage in new interests, I find that the small pleasures in life become more enjoyable.
However, what has allowed me to completely abolish my fear is my faith in God. I am no longer afraid of doing more exciting activities such as skydiving and ziplining. Coming from a Christian who is actively trying to grow in his faith, I have learned to put on the amour of God. To further this note, I have learned to have more trust in the one who has put me into this world.
Bold Passion Scholarship
Football has always been one of my greatest passions in life. Every Sunday from sixth grade until I was a freshman in college, I watched the New England Patriots with my father. I've grown closer to him as a result of the sport, and we've formed an unbreakable friendship. I recall watching Superbowl 51 between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons with him; and being overwhelmed with joy when the Patriots won.
I played football in middle school and high school, and I plan to continue playing in college with the hopes of one day making it to the National Football League. The sport has helped me go through some of my darkest days. It has helped me stay in shape and has protected me from being sedentary or having a lazy work ethic. While participating in the sport, I've met some incredible individuals and made a great number of friends.
Football is one of the key reasons I'm a diligent worker, not just in football but in education as well. It has aided me in being a better team player, as well as boosting my confidence and allowing me to grow as a leader.
Finally, the sport has given me some of my fondest memories, not just with my father and friends, but also with my siblings, cousins, and the rest of my family. Because they are as enthusiastic about it as I am, it has brought me closer to them. This has made not only me, but also my family, happy.
Bold Wisdom Scholarship
"Care for one another, so others can learn to care," is one statement I'd like to share with the globe. I'd share it with someone since we witness a lot of hate and selfishness in today's world. Many individuals lack empathy for others, and their hearts are brimming with greed and power. There are few individuals in today's society who perform acts of grace for one another without expecting a reward or gift in return.
If everyone in the world cared for one another, the crime rate throughout the world would be significantly reduced. People who reside in highly crime-rated areas would not be scared to leave their homes during certain hours of the night. You will not hear about the wars against other countries nearly as frequently. Instead, you would hear how we are helping other parts of the world succeed. The poverty and hunger rate in other countries would be significantly reduced due to the fact that others are donating and giving back.
The global crime rate would be greatly decreased if everyone on the globe cared about one another. People who live in high-crime zones would not be afraid to leave their houses at odd hours of the night. You won't hear as much about wars involving other countries on the news. Instead, you'd hear about how we're assisting others in other areas of the globe to prosper. Other countries' poverty and hunger rates would be considerably reduced as a result of others donating and giving back.
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
Out of all of my qualities, the one I respect the most in myself is my self-discipline. I say this because few people possess the self-control necessary to achieve their objectives. Many individuals, on the other hand, become sluggish and uninspired to accomplish anything. I don't need other people to persuade me to do things that will benefit myself. I have sufficient self-discipline to accomplish what I want, such as going to the gym, being punctual, and doing my schoolwork. You can recognize your defects and bad qualities if you are self-disciplined. It encourages you to stop doing things you don't want to do while also helping you to become more organized.
When you have a self-disciplined attitude, going to the gym is much easier. I have enough self-control to go to the gym and stay there for a reasonable amount of time. I can set up and stick to my personal workout routine. I also make sure to eat a well-balanced diet and take the necessary vitamins. I can certainly state that as someone who is trying to play football in college, I am able to prioritize the vital things and not be distracted by the outside commotion. For someone who wants to become a professional athlete, I understand that in order to achieve your goals in life, sacrifices sometimes have to be made. Whether that is missing out on spending time with your friends or having to miss out on other important opportunities in your life.
Another advantage of being self-disciplined is the ability to manage your time effectively. I always do my hardest to balance academics and socializing with my friends. I realize that if I have a quiz or exam coming up, it would be counterproductive to go out and have fun if it might harm my grades. Another difficulty that many people have, including myself at times, is being a procrastinator. Many individuals have a tendency to put things off and wait until the very last minute to complete their chores. This is something I despise doing, and since starting college, I've made it a point to do my work ahead of schedule.
I am convinced that this trait of mine will benefit me financially and will enable me to become more self-sufficient. Many individuals do not prioritize their priorities, which is why I feel this way. I've never been a big spender since I was a kid, therefore I've always saved a lot more money than the average young adult. It's also taught me the value of conserving money and how difficult it is to make a significant sum of money all at once. It is critical to recognize that becoming successful in this world takes action, effort, and tenacity. And I believe I was taught this at a young age.
Having a self-disciplined personality has led me to develop more beneficial habits since becoming a college student. Getting up early to start my day, following a regular fitness program, and finishing my coursework ahead of schedule are just a few examples. I don't feel compelled to stay in bed and feed my boredom in the morning. Instead I would rather be active, and not push things to the side. If I start procrastinating, I won't be able to achieve my academic or athletic goals in the long run.
Bold Persistence Scholarship
In June of 2021, I surpassed my high school record for the 110-meter hurdles, conquering the challenge of breaking my high school record. With a timing of 16.42, another hurdler had maintained the school record for nearly 15 years. I knew that if I trained and pushed hard enough, I could beat the record because I had previously been in the top 10 for the quickest time.
Fortunately, my coaches, teammates, family, and friends believed in me. My coaches were as thrilled as I was to set a new school record. I began to overcome this obstacle by practicing at 8:00 a.m. for a week straight. I focused on sprinting between the hurdles and getting off to a good start. My coach timed how fast I could sprint out of the blocks and jump over the first four hurdles at the conclusion of my two-hour session. In order to better prepare for the largest meet of my track career, I did my best to perform additional exercises and create other methods to help me reach my goal.
I drove to the MIAA Division IV All-State Meet after a week of preparation. There, I raced against the state's fastest hurdlers in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, I came in 22nd place out of a total of 30 competitors. But due to my hard work and dedication, I ran a time of 16.20, and was able to set a new record.
Bold Career Goals Scholarship
Since enrolling at the University of Alabama, one of my ambitions has been to finish with a degree in computer science. My purpose has always been to use my education to help people in distress. I would do this by contributing to the creation of devices and other tools that may be used to predict impending natural disasters. This might save other people's lives by preventing serious or deadly injuries.
Another career goal is to work in the video game and film sectors. I'd like to work with companies like Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Pixar, and Walt Disney Studios Animation. Movies and video games managed to bring my siblings and me closer together. I'd like to share that experience with others. I aspire to someday make video games and animated films for people of all ages to enjoy. I'd like to produce console games like Call of Duty, Uncharted, and Assassin's Creed. In addition, I'd want to work on CGI and other visual effects for films like Avengers, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars.
Bold Passion Scholarship
One of my biggest passions in life has always been football. From 6th grade, till I became a freshman in college, I watched the New England Patriots with my father every Sunday. The sport has made me grow closer to him and has created an unbreakable bond between us. I can still remember watching one of my Superbowls with him; Superbowl 51 between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons.
I've played football throughout middle school, high school and want to pursue it in college in hopes of accomplishing my dreams of making it into the National Football League. The sport has gotten me through the toughest days. It has been one of the main reasons why I am a hard worker, not only in football but also in school. I have met some amazing people and have made many friends playing football.
Lastly, the sport has created some of my best memories not only between my father and some of my friends but also with my uncles as well. Since they are passionate about it as much as I am, it has driven me closer to them. Which has made not only me happier, but my family as well.
