I'm a survivor of a suicide attempt and I suffer from depression, anxiety, and undiagnosed ADHD. I have been fighting this battle since I was in high school with little help until my doctor decided to do a mental health screening. Up until then, I had no idea mental illness was a very real thing due to my growing up in a black household with a father who didn't believe it existed. That experience motivated me to go to school for psychology with the intent to become a counselor and therapist for those in the Philadelphia school district. So I can help guide and teach everyone parents, teachers, and students alike what mental health is, why it's important, and how to navigate it. That is how I would contribute to making mental health care more accessible, by working closely with the Philadelphia school district to become a counselor and or therapist to students within it while also spreading awareness and helping people understand the significance of mental health.
