Bio

Hi there! My name is Isabella Suhar, but most people call me Bella. I am a motivated and driven senior at Severna Park High School on the way to becoming a Pediatric Cardiologist that specializes is Postural Orthodontist Tachycardia Syndrome(POTS). In 2016 I was diagnosed with POTS. The journey has been difficult and answers came only after years of countless doctors visits, medications, research, products, therapies and treatments. Although these experiences have made things difficult, they have only motivated me to help children with POTS and other chronic disorders can have hope, effective treatment options and knowledge to be empowered to reach their own goals in life and the advocates who support them. This has inspired me to create the non-profit organization called Perfectly Potsie. The goal of this organization is to advocate, support, and spread awareness for POTS. I absolutely love spending time with animals and my sisters! I have a seven year old Portuguese Water Dog who I go on walks to the park and beach with. Whenever I can, I love volunteering at local organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House and the Kris Leigh Assisted Living Center to communicate and build relationships with the individuals there. I am a great candidate for these scholarships because of my drive and passion for these topics. The money I would gain would give me money go to college and decrease the amount of debt after school. My hope is to reach individuals around the world with chronic illnesses and need your help to make that happen.

    Bold Reflection Scholarship
In 2014 I started getting awful headaches and stomach cramps. Every morning I would wake up nauseated and the headaches would often turn to migraines. After months of seeing many doctors, attending consults, and completing research, I was misdiagnosed with an illness called Consistent Daily Migraines. But as time went on my symptoms started growing. My days were not only filled with relentless headaches, I became lightheaded, suffered from constant nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and more. After visits to the pediatrician, ENT, cardiologist, neurologist, chiropractor, physical therapy, acupuncturist, and more, we found a cardiologist that specializes in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I was diagnosed with POTS in 2016. POTS is a invisible chronic illness that affects blood flow through abnormally rising an individuals heart rate after sitting up or standing and decreasing their blood pressure. Since this is an invisible illness I have gotten comments like “your just faking it” and “you are just being overdramatic” but that is not true at all. Although I have experienced many difficulties with this illness, I am so grateful for the wonderful opportunities it has given me! I have been able to listen to other stories and share my story with multiple individuals all across the world! I started a small business called Perfectly Potsie with the goal to advocate, support, and spread awareness for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome through providing advice and organizing events. It has given me a passion to do whatever I can so that children with POTS and other chronic illnesses can have hope, effective treatment options and knowledge to be empowered to reach their own goals in life and the advocates who support them. I hope to support this goal through going to college and becoming a Pediatric Neurologist that specializes in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.
