My name is Isabela Barkes. I'm a student at Kennesaw State University majoring in both Marketing and Fine Arts. My main focus in my studies is Marketing, but my dream career field is Art. I believe that studying both majors will be a great way for me to be successful later in life while still doing what I love. I think I'm in the same boat as most students when it comes to finances and paying for college. I live at home with my parents and commute to school, but so far I've managed to pay for school without their help, however, it does keep money tight, but I am hoping I can do alright regardless. Going into my first semester at KSU, I knew I needed to get ahead in order to have a better chance at scholarships. Before starting college, I did Dual Enrollment from Sophomore to Junior year at Chattahoochee Technical College, and I spent my senior year at Kennesaw State. During that time however, a couple mishaps led to my GPA nearly falling below 3.0. So upon entering my freshman year, I threw myself into my work and finished both Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 with straight A's and made the President's list in both semesters. This brought my GPA back up to at 3.6, and I'm hoping to do even better in Fall 2022! Dual Enrollment essentially meant I had completed all of my General Education Core before I had even officially started college, so I had enough credits in my first year of college to be considered a Junior and I was able to start my major specific courses immediately upon my first semester as a college student. I'm excited for the future and what is to come!

Femi Chebaís Scholarship
I want to create beautiful art for all who wish to see. I want to be happy with what I do and to make others happy as well. I want to show the world that simply loving someone can be enough motivation for you to achieve the most amazing things.
Christian ‘Myles’ Pratt Foundation Fine Arts Scholarship
Many people have been a great influence in my life. I would say the ones who have given me the most encouragement have been my mother, my boyfriend, and my best friend. My best friend is an artist like me, so it was her pointers and help that helped me the most at improving my skills at art. My boyfriend is in the area of music - piano specifically - when it comes to the arts. Both him and my best friend have been a huge motivation for me to push forward and continue to pursue my dreams, both with their knowlege of the arts and loving support. My mother isn't an artist, but without her to be there whenever I was stressed about workload, paying for school, etc., I would never have made it this far. She has truly been my rock in awful situations. The three of them have also helped me better myself as a person in so many ways. They have collectively given me the drive to finish my degree and focus on art as much as possible once I graduate. I am majoring in Marketing at the same time as Art, which I believe will be extremely helpful in areas like Digital Marketing and Advertising. Still, I'd love to earn a graduate degree in Fine Arts after finishing my Bachelor's, and my final goal is to become an art director, even if the path to get to that point is long and difficult. The route to that career goal may be very hard, especially since it's often very hard to differentiate what makes you stand out from other artists and designers. I believe that my background is what makes my own gift different from others. This may be a rather generic response, but no two people have the same pasts. Each person's life, memories, and experiences are what shape their unique worldview. I believe my own unique life and personality have shaped how I percieve art and how I've found my own way of creating it. The people in my life who have supported me, my background, and my worldview are what all come together to put me where I am now, and I am so thankful for that.
